C. B. EVANS
C.B.Evans, pay roll clerk for Alexander,Ramsey and
Kerr. at Immokalee, is a native of Florida. He was
born near the Suwanee River in Suwanee County, and
received his early education in the Hillsborough
County schools. He later went to New York, where he
entered Eastman's Business College at Poughkeepsie.
He worked for several years in a general merchandise
store, starting as a delivery boy and winding up as
office manager. Later he held a position as
bookkeeper for a large hardware corporation and
after leaving this corp. he entered the Tampa branch
office of the Erlich Manufacturing Company.
He was told upon entering the office that he was to have a trial of one week, since the Tampa branch had been havng trouble finding a man who could qualify for the position because of the fact that a daily and weekly report of all materials used in every line of the business must be sent to the main office in New York. But the trial period of one week gradualiy lengthened into 11 years, when the Erlich Manfacturing Company closed its doors. Mr.Evans then entered the employ of the Wholesale Auto Supply House of Tampa as a traveling salesman, and he found it necessary to cover a large part of southern Florida in his work. He held this positio for 2 years and in August, 1924 joined the Barron G.Collier organization at Everglades. He was first with Florida Railroad and Navigation Corporation, but was later transferred to the purchasing department of the Manhattan Mercantile Corporation at Everglades to the office of Alexander, Ramsay, and Kerr, at Immokalee, where he has remained ever since. |
