County Facts

Founded: 1831

Named for John Floyd, then Governor of Virginia.

First Court House completed in 1834.

County seat was called Jacksonville for Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States. On January 23, 1896 the town of Jacksonville was changed to Floyd by an Act passed by the General Assembly.

No water flows into Floyd County.

In 2005 there was only 1 stoplight … in the entire county!

Area: 382 sq mi

Time Zone: Eastern
