Floyd County,
Virginia Chancery Records 1828-1916
Barb Reininger created an index from
information send to her by the Floyd County Court Clerk in 2005. What you might find in a chancery
record: “These types of court document
are useful when researching genealogical informant and land or estate
division and may contain correspondence, list of heirs, or vital statistics,
among other items. Cases in chancery often address estate & business
disputes, debt, the resolution of land disputes, and divorce.” Here
is what you must do to get a hard copy of a Chancery Record. Enclose a stamped self-addressed
envelope along with your request that includes information given in the
index. Make check payable to: Send to:
The
cost is $.50/page (in 2005). These documents can be very lengthy & some pages may not be
needed for your purposes. For this reason, the Clerk of Court encourages you
to come to the court house to view the document
before ordering. Considering the distance I would
have to travel, the travel costs far outweigh the cost of multiple pages. For
others like myself, call the Clerk of Court & ask how best to order by
snail mail when the cost is not known. |
