Surviving are two sons, David of Groton and Jerry of Lansing; two daughters, Irene Holloway of Dunn, N.C., and Connie Leeson of Lansing; a brother, Wiley of Tavares, Fla.; a sister, Ruth Wells of Windsor; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Genoa. When he was a small child the family moved to Centralia, where he started school. in 1912 the family moved to Outlook, where they farmed, and he went to school and graduated from high school in 1926. On Dec. 9, 1928 he married Faye C. Olson at Outlook. They made their home there and farmed. In 1939 they bought a farm in the Liberty District, where they lived for 42 years until 1973 when they sold their ranch and moved to the senior citizens housing complex in Sunnyside, where he made his home until the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Outlook Church of the Brethren and a member of the Liberty Community Methodist Church, past master of the Outlook Grange No. 256, past master of Hermes Masonic Lodge No. 85 of Granger, past president of Granger P.T.A., past patron of Seople Chapter No. 133 Order of Eastern Star, director and supervisor of Drainage District No. 2 for 25 years, past patron of Radiant Court No. 48 of Amaranth, and past deputy of Grand Lodge District 25. He had two sons, Donald (Virginia) Sutphin and Harold (Jean) Sutphin. Eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Two sisters, Margaret (Elmer) Neff and Elsie Hathaway and one brother Ralph Sutphin. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gerald Sutphin and by three brothers, Harley, Roy, and Paul Sutphin. 1994 Burial: Old Sunnyside Cemetery, Sunnyside, Yakima Co., WA.

30, 2000 after a long battle with leukemia. She was a courageous spirit,
known for her integrity, caring and generosity. A longtime resident of
Poulsbo and Hansville, Mrs. Jess was born March 17, 1911 in St. John, Wash.
She was married to Harley Sutphin on Sept. 16, 1931 until his death in 1963.
They had four children, Harley H. Sutphin (Carmen) of Lakeside, Oregon,
Barbara Dell (deceased), Joy Marie (Ed) Ramey of Bellevue, Wash., and Evert
(Anna) Sutphin of Poulsbo. Mary was greatly loved and admired by her
grandchildren, Barbara Rae Ramey of Kirkland, Wash., Rachael Lynn (Steve)
Cartwright of Brier and their son, Jacob, and Tracy (Matt) Curry of Bellevue,
Wash. After Harley's passing, Mary married longtime family friend, Melvie

Christine was a member of Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir until her 90th year. For many years, she ensured there were fresh cut flowers from her garden in the sanctuary every Sunday morning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Sutphin, and a daughter, Dolores Kaknis. She is survived by a son, John "JB" Sutphin and his wife, Carol, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Rachel Herrmann and her husband, Randy, of Yorktown; a son-in-law, Johnny Kaknis of Winchester; and a brother, Bernard "Bud" Brown of Blacksburg. She also has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, from Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pete Bain officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church. Christine's family wishes to express its deep appreciation to all of those who helped and prayed for her during her long illness, particularly to the caregivers who stayed with her in her home and did all they could to make the burdens of her final days as light as possible. Venia was born January 8, 1925, in Iaeger, WV, a daughter of the late Zachary "Zack" Taylor Sutphin (1890-1959) and Effie Miller-McGlothlin-Sutphin-Beavers (1901-1988). She was a store clerk and the last surviving member of her original family. In addition to her parents, Zachary "Zack" Taylor Sutphin (1890-1959) and Effie Miller-McGlothlin-Sutphin-Beavers (1901-1988), Venia was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Miller (1923-Deceased) whom she married on April 30, 1943 in Welch, McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1943, Page 491, Application Date: April 30, 1943); three sons, Randall "Randy" S. Miller (1948-1983), William “Mike” Miller (Deceased), and James Richard Miller (1947-Deceased); five brothers, Woodrow “Woody” Sutphin (Deceased), Elmo Sutphin (1931-1936), Jack Sutphin (1916-1951), Richard “Buddy” Sutphin (Deceased) and Curtis “Pete” Sutphin (Deceased); and one sister, Della McGlothlin (Deceased). Survivors include four grandchildren, Bryan Miller & wife Lisha Miller of Bluefield, VA, Heather Miller-Scipio & husband Andrew Scipio of Charleston, WV, Randall "Scott" Miller & wife Heidi Miller, and Kristy Denise Miller, all of Charlotte, NC; and six great grandchildren, Zeke, Nicholas, Emma, Aidan, Jacob, and Emily. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 1, 2017, at 1:00 with Pastor John G. Pennington officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV.
