Wanda Reed Nelson, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, December 23, 2010 following a short battle with cancer. She was born October 7, 1926 in Roanoke, Va. and was a daughter of the late Clyde S. and Lucy Sowder Reed. She was preceded in death by a sister, June Morris and brothers-in-law, Ted Morris and Jack Stanley. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Polhamus; grandsons, Brian and Scott Polhamus; a sister, Juanita Stanley; nieces, Sharon Mitchell, Patricia (Edward) Resendez and Cindy (John)) Bougeois; a nephew, Michael (Jane) Morris, all of Roanoke; sisters-in-law, Marie Peterson, of Goldsboro, N.C. and Helen (John) Sorrow, of Covington, Ga.; and brothers-in-law, Ellis Nelson, of Greensboro, N.C., Robert (Betty) Nelson, of Snead's Ferry, N.C. and Jimmy Nelson, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and a number of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was a 1945 graduate of Jefferson High School, where she was girl's tennis champion. She was retired from the Veterans Administration Regional Office Legal Division, with 30 years of federal service. She was a charter member of Grandin Court Baptist Church and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday at Oakey's South Chapel with Dr. Kevin Meadows officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grandin Court Baptist Church, 2660 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24018.

REED, Camden G., 97, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 11, 1999 at the Berkshire Nursing Home in Vinton. He is now with his wife of 74 years, Nellie Updike Reed who preceded him in death, February 28, 1999. Also preceding him in death were four brothers. He was born in Floyd County on October 30, 1901. He was employed by the American Viscose Corporation for 37 years until its closing in 1958. He retired from Roanoke City Mills in November of 1966. He was a member of Garden City Baptist Church. He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Alva Reed, Roanoke, Earl and Shirley Reed of Dahlgren, Glenn Reed of Vinton, and James and Betty Reed of Bryans Road, Md., Judy Bowles Reed, Bryans Road, Md., Owen and Judy Smith Reed of Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Leon Pinson of Mechanicsville, Nancy and Richard Flowers of Roanoke; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 1999 with the Rev. Bradley M. Griese officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Archie Lanier Reed, 92, of Blacksburg, Va., formerly of Oak Hill and Hinton, W.Va., died Monday, February 28, 2005, at Blacksburg where he had resided for the past four years.

Born May 12, 1913, in Hinton, he was a son the late Ace and Sarah Meadows Reed. 

He resided in Oak Hill from 1951 until moving to Blacksburg in 2000.

Mr. Reed was a long time employee of the A&P Tea Company and was a member of the United Methodist Church. 

Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Pearl Meador Reed. 

Survived by two sons, Phil Reed and his wife Janice of Blacksburg, and Gary Reed and his wife Connie of Woodlands, Texas; four grandchildren, Rick Reed, Kelly Stanley and her husband Joseph, all of Blacksburg; Chris Reed and his wife Megan and Rebecca Reed, all of Houston, Texas; one sister, Faye Crook of Hinton, and one brother, Talmadge Reed of Hinton. 

Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 3, 2005 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Revs. Walt Mullins and Kathern Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Burial Park near Hinton

Macie E. Reed, 87, of Madam's Creek, Hinton, died Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital at Hinton, following a long illness.

Born March 27, 1917 at Madam's Creek, she was the Mrs. Reed was a lifelong resident of Summers Co., a homemaker and a daughter of the late William Morris and Rosella C. Hinton Mooney. "Special Granny" too many. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Allen R. Reed in 1993, four sisters; Della Mooney, Eunice Bennett, Maude Gilpin and Myrtle Lilly, two brother; Carl and Archie Mooney, a daughter-in-law, Roberta Reed and a son-in-law, Edgar Rush, Jr. 

Survived by one daughter, Janet Rush and a special friend and caregiver, Harry "Woody" Wood, Jr., one son, Donald A. Margie Lee Reed Hamm, 82, of Hinton passed away at her home, Monday June 18, 2007 after a long illness. 

Born October 10, 1924 at Madams Creek in Summers Co. She was the daughter of the late Lonza L. and Nina S. Deeds Reed. 

Margie was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. As long as her health permitted she was a member and attended Mount Olivet Church at Madams Creek. After working for G.C. Murphy during World War II she then became a wonderful mother and homemaker. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, Donald Hamm in June 1997, one sister, Lucille Reed of Madams Creek and two brothers Allen Reed and wife Macie of Madams Creek and Ronald Reed of Hinton. 

Margie is survived by two sons, Donnie Hamm and wife Carmen of Hinton and Doug Hamm and wife Patty of Norton, VA. Four grandchildren J.D. Hamm and wife Tara of Kingsport, TN, Melissa Hamm Humphreys and husband Ted of White Sulphur Springs, Sherry Hamm Sheehan and husband Gerry of Petaluma, CA and Rebecca Hamm Wiant and husband Richie of White Sulphur Springs. Two step grandchildren Joey Stacey of Stafford, VA and Maria Stacey Marvin of Hinton. Three great grandchildren, Bruce and Rozalynn Humphreys and Kaylee Wiant all of White Sulphur Springs. Margie was expecting her fourth great grandchild from Petaluma, CA. Three step great grandchildren, Christie and Joey Stacey of Stafford, VA and Kenny Marvin of Hinton. One sister, Frances Meadows of North Kingstown, RI and two brothers, James Reed and wife Janice of Pipestem and Harold Reed and wife Juanita of Hinton. Thirteen nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews also survive. Additional caregivers include Delores Hopkins, Frances Adkins, Mariyln Gunther, Jeannie Cales, Judy Arthur, and Dee Dee Cales all of Hinton. 

Funeral services will be 2 PM Thursday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Phillip Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Family Cemetery on Madams Creek.

Janice Lee Buckland Reed, 84, of True Road, Pipestem went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 10, 2012 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness. 

Born January 18, 1928 at Ronceverte she was a daughter of the late Lloyd H. and Rosa Meadows Buckland. 

Janice was a member of the Mount Olivet Church, a homemaker and seamstress who enjoyed cooking and sewing. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister. 

She was preceded in death by one brother, Maynard Ray Buckland. 

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 66 years, James E. Reed; one daughter, Linda Hampton and husband Randy of Athens; three sons, Gary Reed of Pipestem, Danny Reed of Denver, CO, David Reed and wife Jessica of Aurora, CO; seven grandchildren, Rance Hampton, Dustin Hampton, Jason Reed, Jodie Reed, Ian Buscemi, Shelton Reed, Austin Reed; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Buckland of Hinton, Carole McCormick of Hinton and Barbara Hedrick and husband Norvin of St. Albans. 

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Norvin Hedrick officiating.

Harold Elmer Reed, 78, of Hinton, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley, following a long illness.

Born October 5, 1929 in Summers Co., he was the son of the late Lonza L and Nina S. Deeds Reed.

Harold served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1951 until 1959 during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Meat Cutter for most of his life including owning a business in Hinton for six years and was a member of the Grace Baptist Church at Nimitz. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather.

Survived by; his wife of 38 years, Juanita Brown Reed; four daughters, Debbie Larsen and husband Eric of Loveland, CO, Brenda Bell of Columbus, GA, Tammy Reed of Phoenix, AZ and Heather Reed of Franklinton, NC; one son, Will Reed and wife Lynn of Nimitz; one sister, Frances Meadows of North Kingstown, RI; one brother, Jim Reed of Hinton; nine grandchildren, Aleesha Bell Valentine and husband Todd of Canton, MI, Nicholas Bell of Columbus, GA, Jacob and Dylan Radford of Phoenix, AZ, Justin and Jeremy Reed of Nimitz, David Brandi and Joshua Frederickson of Franklinton, NC; one great granddaughter Savannah Valentine of Canton MI and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor William R. Ballengee officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Family Cemetery on Madam's Creek.
