BLUEFIELD, Va. Otis J. Howell, 87, of 295 Howell Road, Bluefield, Va. (Abb's Valley) went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013. Born June 6, 1926, in McComas, W.Va. He was the son of the late, Amos Howell and Ida Mae Walters. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He loved God, his wife, and his family. He always made sure his family was taken care of up until he was unable to do so.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Dillon Howell; son, Donald Gene Howell; granddaughters, Misty Lusk and Victoria Stirwalt; one sister, Shirley Whited; and four brothers, Walter, Franklin, Simon and Ray.

Survivors include four sons, Ray Howell and wife, Barbara of Abb's Valley, Va.; Robert Howell and wife, Doris of Abb's Valley, Va.; Harold Howell of Claytor Lake, Va.; Tommy Howell and wife, Drema of Montcalm, W.Va.; three daughters, Janet Shupe and husband, Barnes (Duck) of Abb's Valley, Va., Karen Davis and husband, Phillip of Abb's Valley, Va., Juanita Dickens and husband, Randy of Franklinton, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Hazelwood; he is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the Rodriguez Chapel in Pocahontas, Va. with the Reverend William Davis and the Reverend Greg Payne officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memorial Gardens in Bluefield, Va.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Jason Howell, Brandon Davis, Levi Howell, Tanner Howell, Cody Howell, and Caleb Dick.

Graveside Services for Shirley Mae Whited, 68, of Perry, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Section 12 of Perry Cemetery, corner of Center Street and Middle Ridge Road, Perry.

Mrs. Whited died June 4, 2001, at Meridia Euclid Hospital.

Born Dec. 28, 1931, in Mercer County, West Virginia, she has lived in Perry for 45 years.

She was a member of Central Assembly of God Church in Mentor, where she enjoyed practicing her faith. She enjoyed flowers, playing the guitar and her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Whited owned and operated her own cleaning business during the 1980's.

Survivors are her sons, Ray (Cindy) Whited, Dan (Barb) Whited, Don Whited, Bob (Kim) Whited, Pat Whited, Jeff Whited and Barry (Cindy) Whited; daughters, Kim Misch, Carol Howell and Tammy (Keith) Frowerk; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Otis (Geraldine) Howell, Franklin Howell and Ray Wiles; and sister, Betty Hazelwood.

Her husband, David F. Whited died on June 17, 1998. Her brothers, Walter and Simon Howell, are also deceased.

No calling hours will be observed. The Rev. Charles Pahlman will officiate at services.

The family suggests contributions to Central Assembly of God Church, 6958 Hopkins Road, Mentor, 44060.

Arrangements are being handled by Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home in Painesville.

Athleen "Sue" Ruby (Howell) Conner, 89, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 25, 2017. Sadly, she succumbed to Alzheimer's/Dementia.

She was born in West Virginia on July 26, 1927. She was preceded in death by her second husband, John David Conner Jr., formerly of Buena Vista (Rockbridge Co, VA(. Sue was also predeceased by most of her children from a prior marriage. In fact, she may be the last of her immediate family.

She is survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a stepdaughter, Ingrid Ann (Conner) Vance and family; Lora Conner, Buena Vista, and family; Marshall Conner, Roseville, Calif., and family; granddaughters, Nicole Vance, Victoria Vance, and Dawn Vance.

There will be no memorial services, per her request. Sue donated her remains to science at West Virginia University. In memory of Sue, memorial contributions can be made to your favorite nonprofit organization.

A special "thank you" should be given to the Dawnview Center at Fort Ashby, W.Va. They provided Sue much love and care during the last several years of her long life.

PRINCETON -- Benny Howell, 74, of Princeton, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at his home. Born May 27, 1934 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Jesse Howell and Ruby Wimmer Howell.

Mr. Howell was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was retired from Pocahontas Welding Supply in Bluefield. He was of the Baptist faith. He played the mandolin and enjoyed bluegrass music.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Howell and his wife Betty of Princeton, and Freddie Howell and his wife Nancy of Kegley; and one sister, Edna Mae Martin of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton. Pastor Vivian Slone will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mac Howell, Gary Howell, Freddie Howell, Jr., Wayne Wright, Jesse Howell and J.W. Howell.

Friends may call Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service hour at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Mrs. Virginia Ruth Conley, age 82, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Monday, September 06, 2010 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a brief illness. She was born in Bluefield and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes Gladys Blevins Howell.

She had made her home in the Richlands, Virginia area most of her life and was a retired bank teller from Richlands National Bank and First Sentinel Bank in Richlands, Virginia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, Virginia and where she a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Conley and one brother, Charles Howell.

Survivors are: One Daughter: Teresa Conley Gillespie of Richlands, Virginia One Son: Steve Conley and wife, Connie of Richlands, Virginia One Sister: Pansy Branham of Bluefield, Virginia One Brother: A.Q. Howell of Chula Vista, California One Step Grandson: Brandon Barnett also survives.

Funeral services for Virginia Ruth Conley will be conducted Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Pansy Mae “Granny” Howell Branham, 87 of Double Gates, Bluefield, VA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday November 11, 2017 at a Bluefield Hospital. Born February 16, 1930 in Princeton, WV, she was a daughter of the late Arthur Q. and Agnes Blevins Howell. Pansy was a long-time, loyal, and devoted member of the Community Baptist Church and had been a resident of Bluefield, VA for 58 years. She held a B.S. degree in Biology from Concord College in 1952, was a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for 26 years as a Lab Technician and Chief Lab Technician.

In addition to her parents Pansy was preceded in death by; two brothers, Charles F. Howell and Arthur Q. Howell, Jr., a sister, Virginia Ruth Conley, one grandchild, and twin great-grandchildren: Thomas and Kathryn Adams.

Survivors include; her husband of 63 years, Richard Thomas Branham of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Thomas Branham and wife Teresa of Bluefield, WV, Michael W. Branham and wife Lori A. of Lebanon, VA; three grandchildren Krista Branham and fiancé Justin Adams, Jeremy Branham and wife Heather, and Heath Branham and wife Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren, Jasen and Aiden Branham.

In keeping with her wishes there will be a graveside service for family and friends. The services will be held on Wednesday November 15, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the Pastor Ken Owens officiating Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Roselawn Mausoleum at the service time.

TOANO - Jack L. Massie, 78, of James City County, went to be with the Lord, June 21, 2005, while at home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Massie lived the American Dream. In 1947, with the purchase of a bulldozer, he founded a grading company, Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc., in Newport News. He relocated his business to James City County in 1964 and expanded it into a highway construction firm. In 1985, the company once again expanded to include utility construction and aggregate sales. Today there are more than 120 employees. Jack L. Massie Contractor, Inc. was the sole recipient of the 2000 Virginia Department of Transportation 'Quality Award' in recognition of quality construction on Route 199 and Monticello Avenue Extension. In 1958, Mr. and Mrs. Massie moved their family to a farm in Lightfoot. They operated VaJack Farm as a dairy and later raised and bred registered Polled Hereford beef cattle. They continued to live on the farm until selling it to Colonial Heritage in 2003. Mr. Massie was a founding board member of Old Colony Bank, Jamestown Academy and Williamsburg Landing. He was a past director of the Virginia Road and Transportation Builders Association. He was preceded in death by his mother, Alice H. Massie; his father, Judson C. Massie; and his brother, Gordon C. Massie. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia Maxfield Massie; his sister, Kristina Massie Swain; his daughter, Faith Willin and husband, R. Mrs. Nannie Griffith 81 dead at the Alpoca home of a daughter - Mrs. Odell Turner at 2:44 pm today March 13.
A native of Floyd Co Va she was born March 18,1868, the daughter of the late Thomas & Virginia Howell. She is survived by her 86 year old husband TR Griffth of Giatto, four sons: TW of Lillybrook, WH of Minden, EM of Hemphill, RL of Lillybrook and four daughters Mrs. Turner of Alpoca, Mrs STella Siner of Giatto, MRs Dora Kirby of Tams and Mrs. Lilly Talbot of Rocky Gap VA. two brothers J Howell of Spanishburg and M. Howell of Princeton and one sister Mrs. Rosie Wlicox of Winston Salem NC. Services at Alpoca Methodist Chuch, officiated by Rev Charles Austin, burial at Sunset Memorial Park.
