Mrs Margaret E Hatcher, wife of the late William F Hatcher and daughter of John E. and Sarah Cox was born in this county May 28, 1854 died April 3, 1928 aged 73 years ten months and 25 days.  She was married to William F Hatcher Jan 2, 1873 and to this union was born 13 children, four of whom preceded her to the spirit world.  The following children survive:  Mrs. Emmett Wedl, of Meadows of Dan, Jos. L., Arthur W., James & Noah of Troutville, Mrs. Fannie R Hungate, Mrs Ocie Sumpter and Alvin Hatcher of Roanoke, Henry Hatcher of Brown Summit, NC.  She also leaves 46 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  Her funeral was preached at the Lutheran church near town Thursday by her pastor Rev. John D Utt, pastor of the Villa Heights Lutheran Church and president of the Roanoke Conference.  After the funeral she was laid to rest in the cemetery by the side of her husband who preceded her about 7 years ago.  The grave was covered with the most beautiful flowers"  (SOURCE:  AWT-Hatcher).

Surviving are his wife, two daughters, Mrs Virgie Saunders, Petersburg, Frances Hatcher, Troutville; two sons, Garland and Donald Hatcher, Troutville, three brothers, Joseph L, Troutville, Henry W, Greensboro, Alvin S Hatcher, Roanoke. Funeral services were held at the Troutville Baptist church yesterday at 2:00 pm. Burial was in Troutville cemetery.
