HOMER COX FUNERAL TO BE WEDNESDAY AT BLANDINSVILLE 

Kirkwood - Nov. 4 - Homer Cox died at his home in Kirkwood Monday at 4 a.m. after an illness of 5 years. He was the son of Hiram and Virginia Cox (deceased) and was born Dec. 13, 1874. Surviving are the widow; four children, Mary E. Smith of Kirkwood, Rosa Alice Akers of Colchester, Foster A. Cox of Roseville and Otis Cox of Monmouth; two brothers John Cox and Jim Cox, Indian Valley, VA; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Reece (residence unknown). Two sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home in Blandinsville.

GALESBURG - Homer Gordon Cox, 76, 1722 S. Cherry St., Galesburg, died at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in Kindred Hospital, Sycamore.

He was born June 3, 1933, in Kirkwood, the son of Otis Gordon and Zetta Mae Owens Cox. He married Joyce Marie Briggs on Nov. 3, 1979, in Galesburg.

He is survived by his special friend, Joyce Cox of Galesburg, and a son, Joshua D. Cox of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Homer was a welder for Bixby Zimmer for 19 years, retiring in 1996. He graduated from Monmouth High School. He was a member of First Christian Church, Moose Lodge 880 and the former Eagle's Lodge. Homer sang and was lead guitarist in the band Virginia Plus.

He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

Visitation will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, with Captain Rick Ray officiating. Military rites will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the family.

Toby Estell Cox, 62, of Route 3, Mt. Olivet Road, was dead on arrival Wednesday afternoon at the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Voice Pierce Cox and Narcissa Duncan Cox. He was born in Pulaski County on December 22, 1910. He is survived by his widow, Dove Hedge Cox; four daughters, Mrs. Sue Gray, Pulaski, Mrs. Sybil Oldford, Livonia, MI, Mrs. Evelyn Shultz, Washington, DC., Mrs. Harrett Germani, Richmond; two sons, Sgt. Johnny Cox, Ft. Knox, KY, Michael Cox, Pulaski; two sisters, Mrs. Da Covey, Max Creek, Mrs. Elizabeth Phillips, Radford; five brothers, Hiram Cox, Hiwassee, Jeff Cox, Pulaski, Bruce Cox, Kingsport, TN, Erby Cox, Springfield, NC, Jacob Cox, Altavista; and 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Homer Cline Cox, 88, of Indian Valley passed away Saturday April 15, 2006 at his home. He was blessed with a long life and a family who adored him. He loved life, being outside and working in his workshop. His heart was big, and he was generous to those around him. He served his country proudly as an Army Staff Sergeant in World War II. He was a gift from God for those who mourn him as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ossie P. Cox; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Faye Cox; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Dan Camden; grandchildren, Matt and Amanda Cox, Dawn Farrell, Eric and Meagan Warren; great-grandchildren, Elliott, Alex and Chacey Cox, Hannah and Thomas Farrell; sister, Nobie Rorick; sister-in-law Pauline and Hanford Goad; brother-in-law, Larry and Cecille Pettry and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Monday April 17, 2006 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Kenneth Poston and Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Cox Cemetery in Dugspur, with Military Services by Floyd VFW Post #7854 & American Legion Post #127. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday April 16, 2011, at Maberry Funeral Home. If you wish to remember Cline, please do so with a gift to Twin County Hospice, 308 S. Main Street, P.O. Ossie Marie Pettry Cox, 82, of Indian Valley, Va., passed away on Monday, September 29, 2008. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, canning and taking care of her family. She was well known for her homemade fried apple pies. She was married to Cline Cox who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Ossie is survived by her daughter, Sue Camden; and son-in-law, Dan, of Roanoke; her son, Roger; and daughter-in-law, Faye, of Indian Valley; grandchildren, Eric and Meagan Waren, of Matthews, N.C., Matthew and Amanda Cox, of Tega Cay, S.C., and Dawn Farrell, of Salem; greatgrandchildren, Elliott, Alex and Chacey Cox, Hannah and Thomas Farrell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Hanford Goad, and Eugenia and Ken Hall; sisters-in-law, Nobie Rorick, Addie Pettry, and Cecilia Pettry; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Willie, Maltbie, Roy, Harry, and Larry Pettry; sisters, Imogene Reese, Guida Roop, and Bertie Anderson; and a brother and sister who died in infancy. The funeral will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008, at Maberry Funeral Home in Floyd with the Rev. Kenneth Poston and the Rev. James Walker officiating. Interment will follow at the Cox Cemetery in Dugspur. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 125 Arrowhead Trail, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family would also like to thank Judy Bryant and all of the caretakers at Oak Haven and Skyline Manor of Floyd for the wonderful care they gave her.
