Doris Marie Humphrey, 87, of Beckley died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Faston, Md.
_Born Sept. 3, 1916, in Floyd County, Va., she was the daughter of Stafford Dangerfield and Mary Aldredge Dangerfield.
_Mrs. Humphrey was a graduate of Pax High School, Morris Harvey College and received her master's degree from Marshall University. She retired after 24 years teaching in the Marsh Fork District, Raleigh County, to take care of her ailing mother, Mary Ellen Lively.
_She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard W. Humphrey, on June 19, 1978; and granddaughter, Kristin B. Humphrey, on May 3, 1976.
_Survivors include a son, Bernard W. Humphrey Jr. and daughter-in-law, Peggy K. Humphrey of St. Michaels, Md.; granddaughter, Kimberly B. Pyne and husband, Patrick Pyne of Medford Lakes, N.J.; grandson, Brian D. Humphrey of Arlington, Va.; great-grandson, P. Bryce Pyne; and great-granddaughter, Emma Alyse Pyne.
_Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mount Calvary Southern Baptist Church, 1166 Dry Hill Road, Beckley, with the Rev. Bobby E. Price officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the services. Memorial offerings may be made to the Mount Calvary Southern Baptist Church or to the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, Bryan, Ohio. Arrangements by Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope.

Maggie Turman Dalton, 99, of Indian Valley, passed away Monday, April 3, 1995, at Laurel Meadows Home, Laurel Fork.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Dalton, daughter and son-in-law, Blanche and Marvin Harris.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Ivory Dalton, Radford; two daughters, Maywood Reece and June Quesenberry, both of Indian Valley; one brother and four sisters-in-law, Donald and Daphnia Turman, Norfolk, Winnie Turman and Clydie Quesenberry, both of Indian Valley, Lula Dalton, Bluefield, W.Va.; three sisters and one brother -in-law, Sophia and J.R. Turpin, Indian Valley, Maudie Turman, Dugspur, Annie Dalton, Norfolk; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 6, 1995, at 2 p.m. at the Indian Valley Church of God with the Rev. Kenneth Poston and Elder Jay Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Dalton-Turman Cemetery.

Eunice Spicer Dickerson, 61, peacefully went to be with the Lord from her home surrounded by her loving family after fighting a peaceful battle with cancer on Thursday, October 2, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lois Spicer; sister, Mary Devota Spicer; son, Michael John Dickerson;and father-in-law, Dexter Dickerson. Eunice taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade for 22 years with Floyd County Public Schools and was known as Mrs. D to her students. She was a member and contributed a lot of work to the Retired Teachers Association and the Homemaker's Club. She enjoyed working with 4-H and the FCHS band. She was a member of the Riner Grace Brethren Church. Eunice embraced everyone she met and never knew a stranger. She loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Julius A. Dickerson; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Caitlin Dickerson, Leah Catherine Dickerson Andrews and Jacob Andrews; sister, Bobby Cromer; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Deronda and Clyde Thomas; loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nephews, cousins, and a host of special friends.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Floyd Baptist Church with Pastor Kenny Farley, Pastor Dan Agee, and Pastor Bobby Sutphin officiating. Interment followed in the Jacksonville Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be sent to the Virginia Tech Foundation for the Floyd County 4-H Program Camp Scholarship Fund (payable to Virginia Tech Foundation, memo Floyd County 4-H Program), 209 Fox Street NW, Floyd, VA 24091 or to the Riner Grace Brethren Church, Brethren Youth Fellowship Mission Trip Fund, P.O. George Filmore Dickerson, 73, of Pisgah Road, Princeton, died Monday at 8:55 p.m. in a Princeton hospital.

 

He was a native of Floyd County, VA., and was a member of Pisgah Methodist Church.  He was a farmer.

 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Amy Kirby Dickerson; four daughters, Mrs. C.C. Moore of Long Beach, Calif. Mrs. H.R. Baker of Fort Pierce, Fla., Mrs. Ted Farley of Crab Orchard and Mrs. Betty Peltier of Dearborn, Mich.; four sons, Jason Dickerson of Milan, Mich., and Paul, Carl and George Dickerson Jr. of Princeton; 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lillion Lope of Portsmouth, Ohio.

 

The body was taken to Memorial Funeral Directory of Princeton.  Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for George Filmore Dickerson, 73, of Pisgah Road, Princeton, will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton.  Rev. Glynn Quessenberry and Rev. Fred Cook will officiate with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

 

A native of Floyd County, VA., he died Monday night in a Princeton hospital.  He was a member of Pisgah Methodist Church and was a farmer.

 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Amy Kirby Dickerson of the home; four daughters, Mrs. C.C. Moore of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. H.R. DICKERSON, Ona Turman, 97, of R#1, Willis, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 1994, at her home.

She was born in Floyd County, June 9, 1896 to the late John Preston and Margaret Hurst Turman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Dickerson.

Survivors include one daughter, Evalane Hardin, Willis; three sons and daughters-in-law, John B. and Freida Dickerson, La Platta, Md., Elwood and Iris Dickerson, La Platta, Md., Ansel F. and Naydene Dickerson, Mechansville; one daughter-in-law, Mildred C. Dickerson, Galax; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 1994, at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville with the Rev. Alfred Pinkerton officiating. Burial in the Monta Vista Memories Gardens at Galax. The family says flowers would be appreciated, however a donation may be made to the Dugspur Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 24, 1994, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include three loving sons, Jonathan Doyle, Daniel Weeks and Preston Weeks, all of Roanoke; her father, Okie Janney of Roanoke; her mother, Shirley Janney of Goodview; five brothers, Michael Janney, Howard Janney, Richard Janney, Homer Janney and Kevin Janney, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Diane Martin and Geneva Janney, both of Roanoke; special friends, Barbara and Leon Lionberry, Dot and Woody Allen; her special companions, Tippy and Jackie; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. James Moran officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan's Chapel Cemetery in Alum Ridge, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home. Oakey's South Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

DUNCAN, Eldon Rudolph, 66, of Willis, passed away Friday, September 28, 2001, at his home. He was retired from NRI Industries after 31 years of service. He served as Governor of Montgomery County Moose Lodge from 1983-84, and was a life member of the Floyd County Rescue Squad and a member of the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bishop Duncan; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce Ann and William Hairston, Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Eldon and Amanda Duncan, Willis; brothers and sister-in-law, Rev. Ralph and Shirley Duncan, Floyd, Carlton Duncan, Dublin; grandsons, Eric Shane VanBuren and Christopher Eldon VanBuren; granddaughter, Christina Shamae Hairston.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 30, 2001, at the Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jay Harris, Elder Paul Williams, and the Rev. Ralph Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, after 12 noon on Saturday where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fred Clifford (Chubby) Duncan, 69, of Floyd, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2014. He was a 1963 graduate of Floyd County High School. He was a professional truck driver, and he had a passion for beef cattle farming. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Inez Rampey Duncan; his parents, James Everett "Ebb" Duncan and Annie Lera Underwood Duncan; his grandson, James Matthew McPeak; his brother, Wesley Everett Duncan; and his sisters, Martha Ellen Radford and Evelyn Vera Saul.

Surviving are his wife, Colden Duncan; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Angela Duncan; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and John Austin, Gail and Bruce Wells, and Karen and Vance Durrance; grandchildren, Sierra Burcham, Neal, Nathan, and Naomi Wells, Dakota Harmon, Tanner and Brett Greer, Savannah and Daniel Duncan; great-grandchildren, Eion and Abbigail McPeak, Joshua, Megan, and Peyton Burcham; step-children, Julie Vest, Ben B. Sullivan, Brenda Saball, Joe Sullivan, and Martha Askins; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Joyce Duncan, John and Agnes Duncan, Kenneth and Anne Duncan, and Curtis and Lillian Duncan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel Smallwood, Joyce and Garfield Underwood, Peggy Duncan, and Verna June and Tom Pringle; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Gardner Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Joe Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854 and Floyd American Legion Post #127. Friends may call after 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

RADFORD - General Ancel Duncan, age 41, died Sunday, July 28, 1991, in a local hospital. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Radford. He had served his country in the Army National Guard and was a basketball official in the Virginia High School League.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Lynn Duncan, Radford; one daughter, Stephanie Michelle Duncan, Christiansburg; one sister, Hilda Burnette, Floyd; a special sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Simpkins, Radford.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. George Ducker and the Rev. Gene Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken to the church Tuesday evening where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00. Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Roanoke, Va.
