Jerry Monroe Caldwell


BAY CITY - Jerry Monroe Caldwell, 70, of Bay City passed away June 10, 2012. He was born July 16, 1941 to the late Otha Monroe Caldwell and Leslie Joan Fowler Caldwell.
 

He grew up in Angleton, TX and attended Elementary School in Freeport and moved to Bay City in 1953. He was one of the first students at Edith Armstrong Center, which is also known as Texana Center. He was also one of the first employees at Bay City Recycling Center. He participated in Special Olympics in Bowling & Track and Field. He was a charter member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and currently a member of Vineyard Church. He loved to take vacations to Colorado, going camping and watching and attending Houston Astros games. He enjoyed attending church very much.


In addition to his parents his nephew Jerry W. Etgen and brother-in-law Marvin Etgen preceded him in death. Survivors include sisters Pauline Etgen of Bay City and Coco Caldwell of Victoria and two nephews David Etgen and Marvin Paul Etgen both of Bay City.


The family will receive friends and relatives from 6pm until 8pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Mr. Bill Cross officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.


Pallbearers will be Alan Caldwell, Scott Siebin, John Maliff, Bill Cross, Don Pierce and Bill Dunsworth.

Leslie Joan Caldwell
(December 28, 1922 - April 30, 2012)

Leslie Joan Caldwell, 89, of Bay City entered the Heavenly Arms of Jesus on April 30, 2012. She was born December 28, 1922 in Azle, Texas to William Clearance Fowler and Annie Leslie Brice Fowler. She came to Bay City in 1953, and worked for several lawyers, Bossley Rice Dryers as a bookkeeper, County Clerk’s Office, District Clerk’s Office, County Treasure’s Office, and the United Way. She was President of ARC of Matagorda County, Charter Member and held many offices with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, First Methodist Women of the Year, and was a member of The Vineyard Church. She had love for missionary work, playing the piano, and Leading the youth group.

She is survived by her son Jerry Monroe Caldwell of Bay City; 2 daughters: Lilla Pauline Caldwell Etgen of Bay City; Coraglyn Coco Caldwell of Victoria; 2 grandsons: David Michael Etgen and Marvin Paul Etgen both of Bay City; brother: Pat B. Fowler of Houston; brother-in-law: Jack Lee Forest of Lake Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Otha Monroe Caldwell; grandson: Jerry Wayne Etgen; brother: Franklin Brice Fowler; and 2 sisters: Mary Ruth Forest and Hattie Lou Roseler.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 4, 2012 at The Vineyard Church with Pastor Ed Webbon officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers will be: Alan Caldwell, Steve Sieben, Scott Sieben, Bill Cross, and Bill Dunsworth.

Lilah B. Calhoun
Feb. 19, 1935 – Jan. 8, 2013

Lilah B. Calhoun, 77, of Blessing passed away January 8, 2013.

She was born on February 19, 1935 in Wayland, New York to the late Earl and Elizabeth Burdick.

She worked in the business offices of Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City and also in Palacios at Wagner General. She also worked many years in EZ Mart Convenience Store. She loved to read, watch golf and Sci Fi movies. Lilah was loved by her family and friends.

Lilah is survived by: her three sons, Wayne and wife Patty Calhoun, Mark and his wife Iona Calhoun and Bruce Calhoun and girlfriend Lisa Garza; eight grandchildren, Sarah Calhoun, Jennifer and husband Timothy Bower, Nathan Calhoun, Lorianne and husband William Palmer, Becka Wilder and boyfriend Mark Ibarra, Jonathan Calhoun and Jeff Calhoun; five great-grandchildren, Nick and Marah Bower, William “Quad” Palmer, Aiden and Aubree Ibarra; two brothers, Francis Bayles and Perry Burdick.

She was preceded in death by: her parents and beloved husband Earl “Shaky” Calhoun; two brothers, Claurence “Shorty” and Raymond Beechner; one sister, Cora Anderson and one grandson, Mark Calhoun, Jr.

The family will hold a memorial service at 5 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Midfield Community Church in Midfield, Texas with the Pastor Clyde Grier officiating. We will be having a time of reminiscing following after memorial service at Mark and Iona Calhoun’s house in Blessing, Texas.

Louise "Mawzy" Callaway

(October 31, 1922 - December 29, 2012)

Louise “Mawzy” Baker Davis Callaway, 90, of Bay City went to her heavenly home on Saturday, December 29, 2012. She was born on October 31, 1922 in Bay City to the late Samuel Houston & Nettie Tidwell Baker. Mawzy was an avid Dallas Cowboy Football Fan. She loved George Strait. Mawzy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She loved to rock all the babies in her rocking chair “Big Brown”. Mawzy was a people person, who loved everyone, and everyone loved her.

She is survived by her children: Karla Mansel, Dianne Stephens & husband Claude, Ben Davis II & wife Sue, Denise Frazier, Janna Johnson & husband Steve, and Jeffrey Davis & fiancée Irina; 27 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and numerous other loving family members. Mawzy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: B. C. Davis and Kenneth Callaway, son: Patrick Pauley, grandson: Benjamin Davis III, 3 brothers, and 6 sisters.

The family will receive visitors from 12 Noon till 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Stoub officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joey Fougere, Marcus Frazier, Ken Boyd, Johnny Wayne Mica, Tony Vargas, Ron Burrow, James Childers, and Jay Brumley.

The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to the Assisted Living on the Legacy Campus for the 3 years of love and care they gave her. She loved living there and the people who took care of her. The family also expresses thanks to Bay Villa Nursing Home for the care and compassion they gave her in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to Disabled American Veterans.

Hazel Margaret (Smith) Capps

Aug. 9, 1926 –Dec. 25, 2012

Hazel Margaret (Smith) Capps, 86, of Aransas Pass, Texas died on Christmas day Tuesday, December 25, 2012.

She was born August 9, 1926 in Ball, Louisiana to William and Laura May Smith. Hazel was a member of the Eastern Stars and the United Methodist Church. She was raised and educated in Houston, Texas. She set an outstanding example of a woman working outside the home to help raise her family. She was a hard worker and retired from Weingarten’s Grocery Stores as a bank teller and then from Wal-Mart in Rockport, where she was lovingly called the Wal-Mart Lady. She was a wonderful Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Mother in law, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Hazel was preceded in death by: her parents, Willie and Laura Smith; a loving husband, James Thurman Capps; brothers, Johnnie, Bill and Clarence; sisters, Lois, Margie Estelle and Jeannette; grandson, Chris; great grandson, Connor.

She leaves behind to honor her memory: two daughters, Laura Welborn (Mike) of Aransas Pass, Texas and Judy Hardy (Ken) of Huntsville, Texas and her son, Larry Capps of Bay City, Texas. She was proud to say she had ten grandchildren, Rebecca and Matt Girgenti, Mike and Tiffany Hardy, Sherry and Greg Bogdan, Brian Hardy, Paul and Shanna Hardy, Lori and George Thornton, Matthew and Hollie Hardy, Mark Hardy, Jimmy and Amber Capps, Elizabeth Welborn; 23 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 with family to be present from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. to receive friends at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Aransas Pass.

Funeral service was celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Aransas Pass, Texas.

Private interment will follow at the Prairie View Cemetery, Aransas Pass.

Sandra Carlisle, 70, of Bay City, passed away on July 12, 2012, at Matagorda Regional Hospital.

She was born November 11, 1941.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert Carlisle Sr; daughter, Sherri Anthony and granddaughter, Erin Anthony.

She is survived by: children, Sue Lewis, Shelly and Louis Ryman and Robert and Judy Carlisle; and grandchildren, Kristin, Jeremy, and Breann Ryman, Tiffany Carlisle, Ronnie Jock, Kara Lewis, Karissa, Andrew and Holly Anthony.

May our beloved mother rest in peace. She struggled for many years. God rest her soul.

William “Blane” Carlisle
Dec. 23, 1957 – April 20, 2012

William “Blane” Carlisle, 54, of Katy, Texas passed away April 20, 2012. Blane was born December 23, 1957 in Billings, Montana, to Bill Carlisle and stepmother Sue Carlisle.

He is survived by: the love of his life, wife Diana Carlisle; children, Hunter Carlisle Chase and Kellie Kaiser, Amanda and Billy Thurber, Kerry Quick, Susan Richard, Cameron and Jeannie Quick; grandchildren, Ryan Bruening, Haley Thurber, Brody Kaiser, Christopher, Jennifer, James and Kade Quick; father, Bill Carlisle; sister, Leisa Carlisle and brother-in-law Steve Mahoney, brother in Christ Son, Cartwright and sister in Christ, Shari Cartwright.

He is preceded in death by: his brother, Duane Carlisle and stepmother, Sue Carlisle.

He had several nieces and nephews and close friends that he loved very much.

Blane was loved by so many and will be missed by all. He lived his life to the fullest and was very strong in his faith.

He enjoyed Cajun music, cooking, his motorcycle, his kids and grandkids, and he never failed to tell some kind of joke. He now dances the streets of gold and is face to face with our savior Jesus Christ.

Blane’s memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas.

Funeral Services For Frank Carr Are Held Here Wednesday

Funeral services for Frank Carr, former city marshall of Bay City and sheriff of Matagorda County, were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Methodist Church with burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Wright of Bay City; four sons, Tony of Bay City, Jesse Lee of Artesia, N. M., Bert of Tuckerman, Ark., and Jimmy of Newport, Ark.

Last Rites Held For Pioneer Citizen Joseph Frank Carr

Tuesday afternoon at 5:30, Mr. Joseph Frank Carr, age 72, passed away at his home in this city after a long and painful illness. Funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church at 5:30 this afternoon with the Rev. W. W. Hawthorne officiating assisted by the Rev. Marvin Vance of Houston. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery, Matchett-Newman in charge.

Mr. Carr is survived by his wife, Ida; one daughter, Mrs. Walton Wright of this city; four sons, Thornton of Bay City, James of Tuckerman, Ark; Jessie Lee of Artesia, N. Mex., and Bert of Newport, Ark.; one sister, Miss Fay Carr of West Columbia; four brothers, Bert of Bay City, Will of Houston, Lee of Los Angeles, Calif., Will of Hanford, Calif., and Kirk of Mercer Island, Wash.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Joseph Frank Carr was born in Iowa on December 9, 1876, and moved with his parents to Richmond, Texas, when he was 16 years old and has made Texas his home ever since. He was married to Miss Ida Thornton in Harwood, Texas, on August 19, 1896.

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Carr lived in the state of Washington and the Rio Grande Valley for a short time, coming to Bay City in 1901, where he entered into business. In 1920 he was elected sheriff of Matagorda County and served for two terms. In 1928 he was elected City Marshall holding that office without interruption until the last election when his health forbade running for the office. For the past 22 months he has been employed as a special investigator for the city of Bay City.

He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge active in the Lions Club and other civic organizations, giving unsparingly of his time when called upon.

Frank Carr, devoted husband, loving father, outstanding citizen, has gone. The many friends he leaves behind extend to his family, in this their greatest hour of trial sympathy and understanding.

Mrs. Frank Carr, 95, Dies After Illness

Long-time resident of the Bay City area, Mrs. Frank Carr has passed away at age 95. She succumbed in Matagorda General Hospital on Sunday, Jan. 17.

Born in Alabama, Mrs. Carr came to Texas with her family at an early age. After her father’s death she resided with a brother in the Caney area until her marriage in 1896. The Carr’s then moved to Bay City about the turn of the century to settle and raise a family.

The late Mr. Carr was at one time sheriff of Matagorda County and for many years was the city marshal. Mrs. Carr often expressed her pride in her husband’s service to the community.

One of the first members of Eastern Star in Matagorda County, she also belonged to the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the oldest living member of the First United Methodist Church and worked diligently through the years in all phases of church activity. There are four living generations of Mrs. Carr’s family with three children, nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Ida Carr

CARR, Mrs. Frank, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18 in Matagorda General Hospital at age 95. Long-time resident of Bay City, Mrs. Carr was an active member of eh First United Methodist Church. The Reverend Conrad Winborn will officiate and interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Walton Wright of Bay City and two sons, Bert and Thornton Carr, both of Houston. Other survivors include four living generations of Mrs. Carr’s family. Pall bearers will be Jim Carr, Toney Carr, Jim Wright, Drew Burnell, Billy Burnell, Willard O’Neal and Vim X. Rye.

Joseph Herbert “Bert” Carr

Memorial services for Joseph Herbert “Bert” Carr, 79, of Houston will be held 10 a. m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating.

Mr. Carr was born Oct. 25, 1911, to Joseph Francis and Ida Viola Thornton Carr in San Benito and died June 10, 1991, in a Houston hospital.

As a member of the Masonic Lodge, he received a 50-year pin December 1990 in Waco, and he also belonged to the Methodist church.

He is survived by two daughters, Pat Connell and Iris Seal; two grandchildren, Nicole Payne and Eric Payne; two nieces, Mary Frank Burnell and Lucille Roberts; three nephews, Tony Carr, Jim Wright and George Watters; five great-nieces and four great-nephews.

Joyce Davis Carr

BAY CITY - Joyce Davis Carr, left her mortal family to be with her eternal family. Joyce was born on January 1, 1927 in Luling, Tx. to the late E.C. "Buck" and Myrtle Sanders Davis. She was a devoted school teacher, who liked to live her life near and on the water.

She is survived by her family; grandchildren, Christopher Adam Carr of Midway, Texas, Sarah Schaefer & husband PFC Gregory T. Schaefer of Fort Carson, Colorado; two great-grandchildren, Isabelle & Chelsie Schaefer; sister, Dorothy Davis Birkner of Bay City, Tx. and other loving family members.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas "Toney" Carr; son, Christopher Scott Carr.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Thomas T. Carr

June 22, 1923 – October 11, 1999

 

Funeral services for Thomas T. “Toney” Carr, 76, of Bay City, will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 13, 1999, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

 

Mr. Carr died on Monday, October 11, 1999, in Bay City. He was born on June 22, 1923, in Bay City, to T. F. and Mildred Walker Carr. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1941. He joined the U. S. Army and served overseas in England, Germany, Holland, and France. He was married to Joyce Davis of Bay City in August 1948. At the end of World War II, he enrolled at Rice Institute where he was a member of the track team. After receiving his B.S. Degree at Rice, he earned his Master’s Degree at the University of Houston. Toney began his 22 year coaching career at St. Ann’s, followed by one year at Smiley High School, six years at Palacios High School, and eight years at Strake-Jesuit in Houston. Following his coaching retirement, he returned to Palacios, where he purchased the Palacios Marina and operated it until 1997 when he sold the marina and moved back to Bay City. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church in Palacios, the American Legion, and the “R” Association of Rice.

 

He is survived by: his wife of 51 years, Joyce; his son, Christopher Scott; two grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Carr; one sister, Lucille Roberts and husband Cecil; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Joe Birkner, Jr., all of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; and a sister, Mary Frank Burnell.

Sidney Louis Carr
 

On May 19, 2003, Pauline Perez Caravajal, 75, of Freeport, Texas, went to be with her Father in Heaven; she has now rejoined her husband Catarino Caravajal Jr.; parents, Manuel and Blasta Zborial Perez, and sisters, Ramon Perez and Virginia Pardo in Heaven.

She was born April 2, 1928, in Berclair, Texas. Mrs. Caravajal was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Freeport, and a resident of Freeport for the past 20 years.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Johnie Sanchez, Kathy and John Falcon all of Port Lavaca; Carolyn and David Ramirez, Elizabeth and Reuben Cuellar and Debora Caravajal and Juan Serna all of Freeport, Patricia and James Whitener of Bakersfield, California and Paulette and Mason Howard of Brazoria; son, Reuben Caravajal of Portland, Oregon; sisters Olga Perez, Teresa Gonzales, and Stella Lucio all of Palacios; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2003, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Robert Guerra officiating. Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Dec. 15, 1917 – Aug. 13, 2012

Susana Castillo, 94, formerly of Markham, passed away August 13, 2012.

She was born December 15, 1917 in El Campo, Texas to the late Gregorio Anguiano and Virginia Rizo Anguiano.

Her husband, David Castillo, and daughter, Carmen Gomez, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughter, Julia Willeford of Alvin; son, Robert Castillo and wife Irma of Houston; sister, Concepcion Ramirez of Angleton; grandchildren, Eliosa, Eric and David Castillo, Andy, Gabriel and Raul Aguilar and Melinda and Monica Gomez and a number of great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Georgie Cerny
(December 15, 1939 - April 25, 2012)

Georgie Cerny, 72, of Bay City went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 after fighting a 7-month battle with breast cancer. She was born in Fairchild, Texas on December 15, 1939 to the late Joe & Willie Mae Orsak Silhavy. Georgie loved to garden and bake for her family. She spent many hours hunting with her husband and helping him on the farm. She loved her family and animals.

Georgie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years: Albert Cerny; 2 daughters: Dianne Cerny Dry & husband Jim and Elaine Dunn & husband Roland; 3 grandsons: Jacob Christopher Daniel, Jason Patrick Dunn, and Trevor Francis Dunn; 2 brothers: Raymond and Joe Silhavy; 2 sisters: Helen Deiss and Betty Kramer; and other family members & pets. She was preceded in death by her parents and niece Michele Deiss Ratcliff.

The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, April 27, 2012 at St. Peters Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 28, 2012 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jared Stillions officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Albert John Cerny
April 12, 1936 - October 05, 2020

Albert John Cerny, 84, of Bay City passed away October 5, 2020. He was born April 12, 1936 in Blessing, TX to the late John and Hattie Cerny. 

Albert was a long time farmer and rancher.  In his spare time, he liked to hunt and spent many years with his wife and family at their Deer Lease. Many tales were told around the campfire.   He enjoyed raising cattle, making sausage & listening to polka music.  

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Georgie E. Cerny.

Survivors include his daughters Dianne Cerny Dry & husband Jim and Elaine Dunn & husband Roland; grandsons Jacob Christopher Daniel, Jason Patrick Dunn, and Trevor Francis Dunn, and sisters Dolores Zernicek and Mildred Neuman.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM with Rev. Stephen Vacek officiating. David James Chapman was born August 21, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away May 24, 2012 at Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City. He came to Texas in 1985 and moved to Matagorda County with his wife and family in 1986.


He is survived by his wife Virginia Chapman and stepson Mason Kapp both of Wimberley, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Helen Chapman of Wixom, Michigan and by his son Joseph Walter Chapman of Van Vleck.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Houston Hospice.

(May 21, 1929 - December 12, 2012)

Charles Lawrence “Larry” Cherry, 83, of Bay City passed away December 12, 2012. He was born May 21, 1929 in Huffman, TX to the late George Cherry and Lucy Katherine Thornbrough Cherry. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and worked for many years as maintenance supervisor at Celanese. In recent years, he enjoyed fishing and cooking and sharing both talents with friends and family.

His son, Larry Eugene Cherry, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife Emma Westbrook Cherry of Bay City; daughter Debra Bender & husband Billy of Brazoria; sister Doris Cherry of Bay City; grandchildren Brandi & Joseph Saunders, Kristina & Aaron Bush, Larry Don Cherry, John Cherry & Sean Cherry; great grandchildren Maggie, Luke & Hazel Saunders and Daniel & Nolan Bush.

The family will receive friends and family beginning at 1:00 PM with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM Friday, December 14, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Watson officiating. Interment will follow at the Damon Cemetery in Damon, Texas. Pallbearers will be Larry Don Cherry, John Cherry, Ray Cherry, David Wallace, Aaron Bush and Hootie Estlinbaum. Genevieve Sul Cisneros, 74, of Bay City passed away August 22, 2012.

She was born July 6, 1938 in Bay City to the late Paul Sul and Paula Montelongo Sul.

Survivors include: her husband, Erasmo Cisneros of Bay City; daughters and their spouses, Dora Elizabeth and J. C. Flores of Bay City, Mary Helen and Edward Huls of Pasadena and Sandra and Ronald Cowart of Bay City; son, Victor Cisneros and wife Toyya of Bay City; sister, Minerva Rivera and husband Faustino of Bay City and grandchildren, Michelle Parrie and husband Adam, Chelsea Cisneros, Randy Lamberti II and Victoria and Caleb Cisneros.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Pastor Peggy Sexton officiating.

Harvey Clapp

Funeral services for Harvey Clapp were held Monday, January 11, at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home with Bro. Henry W. Doublet officiating. Burial was in Hawley Cemetery.

Born February 4, 1889, in Brentwood, Arkansas, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chesterfield Clapp, he was a long time resident of this area, having moved to Blessing with his parents in 1912. A retired postal employee of Louise, he died early Saturday, January 9, at Wagner General Hospital following an extended illness.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Palacios; three daughters, Mrs. Donald Darcey of Houma, La., Mrs. Nathan Linton of Palacios, Mrs. Cassel Buckley of Lyford; a son, Harvey C. Clapp of Port Lavaca; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were six grandsons, Thomas Light, Houma; Gerald Linton, Abilene, Texas; Ronald Linton, U. S. Army, Germany; David Clapp, Port Lavaca; Billy Buckley and Douglas Buckley, Lyford.

Funeral services for Robert Lee Clark, 71 of Bay City, are scheduled for 2:00 p. m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 1995, at Enterprise Baptist Church with the Rev. H. L. Hawkins, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City. Visitation hours will be held Saturday until 9 p. m. at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City.

Mr. Clark was born April 27, 1923 in Brazoria to Sam Clark and Alma Smith-Clark and died Feb. 14, 1995, at his home at 2601 Ave. C in Bay City.

He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Kaye Davis of Inglewood, Calif., Janie Mae White of Bay City, Phyllis Clark of Bay City, Ora Forman and Thais Stinson of Hobbs, N. M.; seven sons, Sam, Randy, Roosevelt and Otis Clark all of Houston, Lawrence Clark of California, Ronald Clark of Rosenberg and Willie Clark of Bay City; 35 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren a special friend, Rose Gibson of Bay City and two sisters, five brothers and five aunts.

Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy Lee Clark, a daughter Robbie Faye Jackson Lewis and a son Ira Joe Clark.

The pallbearers will be made up Mr. Clark’s sons and grandsons.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Tara Gibson of Bay City; a son she reared, Berry Williams of Bay City; her step-mother, Mildred Thomas Gibson of Bay City; two sisters, Mary Lee Gibson of Bay City and Effie Jewel Williams of Houston; two brothers, Garfield Gibson Jr. of Bay City and Earl Gibson of Houston; five grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ira Lee Smith in 1972; her father, Garfield Gibson in 1973; her step-father, Earl Smith in 1977 and her twin sister, Betty Jean Harkless in 1992.

She was born on January 31, 1936 in Collegeport, Texas to the late Joe Frank and Inez Blackwell Jenkins.

Sue enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 48 years, James Clayton of Bay City; son, Steven Clayton; daughter, Lisa DeRosier; two grandchildren, Levi and Logan DeRosier; two great grandchildren, Violet and Gage DeRosier; three sisters, Netina Young, Nell Agnew, and Ann Reynolds; and other loving family members.

Sue was preceded in death by: her parents, Joe Frank and Inez Blackwell Jenkins, and two brothers, Tommy Jenkins and Joe Frank Jenkins, Jr.

GEORGIA COLE

BAY CITY - Georgia "Jo" Cole, 90, was born in Ontario, California to the late John and Charlotte Laura Coleman on March 29, 1922. She passed away peacefully on Friday, August 3, 2012 in Bay City, Texas.

Georgia was raised in California and after high school attended Chaffey College until the war broke out. Her love of education and learning earned her many outstanding awards and honors including President of her school's National Honor Society.

She met her husband, a military serviceman, W. L. "Waddie" Cole in 1943. They lived in Ontario for 2 years before moving to his hometown of Bay City, Texas. Georgia and Waddie established Cole Plumbing Company in 1950. Their business increased and along with residential work, they added commercial work and included plumbing, heating and Air conditioning. In early 1960, they moved their company to the present location where in continues to thrive.

George was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bay City. She let her love for Jesus guide her life, and was devoted to her Lord. Her compassion and kindness were some of her greatest gifts to the world. She spent much time helping the underprivileged and saved the lives of many homeless animals. She also devoted her life to her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, her parents and brothers Bob, Clyde and bill Coleman. She is survived by daughters Terri Striebeck and husband Scotty, Dianne Rooth and husband Richard, grandchildren Jake Striebeck, Laura Striebeck, Jeremy Rooth and Jeffery Rooth, numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and loving friends.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 1:30 pm until 3:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 Am Monday, August 6, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Staub officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Mr. Cook was born Dec. 9, 1925. He passed away Jan. 17, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirlie Readmond Cook.

TRES PALACIOS - Shirlie Anne Readmond Cook, 80, of Tres Palacios, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007. She was born July 20, 1926 in Emmet, Mich. to the late Leonard and Frances Angell Readmond. A member of Collegeport Baptist Church, she retired as a registered nurse from Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti, Mich.

She is survived by: husband, Lee C. Cook of Palacios; five daughters, Frances Callahan and husband Ronald of Palacios; Linda Lincoln and husband David of Palacios; Merri Rennie and husband Steve of Belleville, Mich.; Beth Blevins and husband Michael of Palacios and Robin King and husband Thomas of Sweeney; one brother, Keith Readmond of Levering, Mich.; fifteen grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: two sisters, Doris Kilgore and Joyce Gilpin.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Blessing, Texas, Friday, March 27, 1925, to Mister Pea and Agusta Hasley Pea, and died Thursday, November 30, 1995, at UTMB Hospital in Galveston.

Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Hulen (& Rev. Wilmer) Brown of Durham, North Carolina, and Mrs. Mary Grogans Booker of Texas City. Also 9 grandchildren, Tony Levan, Joseph Earl, Samuel Gary, Terrel DeWayne, Dreama Ann, Andrew Wayne, Bryan Royal, Clifton Jr. and Amy Yolanda.

Avelina “Angie” Cortines went to rest in her Kingdom on May 5, 2012. Angie was born August 2, 1945 in George West, Texas to the late Frank and Delores Ruiz Aguilar. Angie was a resident of Bay City for the past 22 years. She was employed for many years at the Colorado Golf Course. Angie was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She always considered others first. Many in Bay City considered her mom for the loving way she cared for people. She is survived by her loving family, husband Jose Vega; children, Demetrio Ruiz, Miguel “Mike” Ruiz, Annabelle “Anna” Ruiz, Eli Cortines, Steven Cortines, Jose Vega, Jr., Michael “Mikey” Vega, Martin Medoza Sr., Martin Medoza, Jr,.; daughters-in-law , Crystal Cortines, Lisa Ruiz, Petra Cortines, Lupe Arrellano; son-in-law, Steve Guerra; 28 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; Brothers, Frank Aguilar, Jr. and Delfino Aguilar; sisters, Josephina Hernandez, Celia Alanis and Lydia Chapa. Funeral services for Elnora Crawford, 81, of Bay City, will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000 at Bethel Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. L. C. Cunningham, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at East View Cemetery in Bay City.

Norris R. Crawford, 62, of Houston died May 21, 2004 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston. He was born March 14, 1942 in El Campo to the late Carlton Wesley and Mary Louise Pybus Crawford.

Mr. Crawford was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston, a resident of Houston since 1963, and was in the mortgage banking business for the past 34 years.

Survivors include: wife, Doris Crawford of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Robbie Fuller and granddaughter, Emily Fuller, all of Georgetown.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Carlton Simpson, and brothers: John Lacy Crawford and Jack Wesley Crawford.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at the First Presbyterian Church in Palacios with Mike Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edward Pennington, Marvin "Buddy" Kastrop, Dick Kubecka, Kenneth Cook, Terry Oglesby, and Larry Taylor.

JOAN LUCILLE HOLMES CREWS

Funeral services for Joan Lucille Holmes Crews, 91, were held July 19, 2012 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel in Austin, Tx. with Pastor Dan Toepperwein officiating. Interment was at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

Mrs. Crews was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Palacios, Tx. She passed away July 15, 2012 in Austin. She was a descendent of one of the original 300 families that settled Texas with Stephen F. Austin.

Joan will be remembered for her adventurous spirit. She joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served her country proudly as an aviation metal smith welding on airplanes that were damaged during WWII. She then went on to travel with Jim and her family during his 28 year Army career. She was an avid seamstress, oil painter, homemaker and general jack of all trades. She left her children and grand children a great legacy of her “can-do” attitude.

She is survived by her son, Darius James Crews, II and his wife Carolyn; daughters Janet Pyle and Gina Sheftall and husband Dell; grandsons Travis Crews and his wife Jarrott, Tyler Crews, Todd Crews, Jason Pyle and his wife Shanna; great-granddaughter Brooklyn Pyle; brother-in-law Albert Johs; and several nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darius James (Jim) Crews (Major, US Army, Ret); and sister, Margaret Johnson, Leanora Young and Elizabeth Johs. Her remaining sister, Agnes Barker passed away two days after Joan.

Jan. 22, 1947 – April 23, 2012

Jeanine Gauthier Crow passed away on April 23, 2012 at the age of 65 after a brief battle with cancer. She was born on January 22, 1947 in Bay City, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her parents Marvin “Frenchy” Gauthier and Albina “Bennie” Gauthier; her sons, Kenneth Quinby and David Crow; her brother, Michael Gauthier and niece, Bethany Gauthier.

She is survived by: husband, Raymond Crow; her daughter, Andrea Scott and husband Brandon Scott; granddaughter, Brooke Sandoval; brother, Marvin Gauthier and wife Judy Gauthier, sister, Renee Smith, brother, Alan Gauthier, and sister, Michelle Gauthier; stepson, Norman Crow and wife Liz Crow and their children, Kaili, Rayce, and Kiana, along with nieces and nephews, Ryan Gauthier, Randi and Justin Bobbitt, Ross Gauthier, Amanda Rackel and Jonathan Rackel; sister-in-law, Yvonne and husband Harley Stivers; brother-in-law, John David Crow and wife Carolyn Crow; and sister-in-law, Doris Ann Brown; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at at 10 a.m. May 10, 2012 at Faith Bible Church, 1133 Delaney, Lamarque.

JOHN EDWARD CROW

PALACIOS - John Edward Crow was born February 7, 1927, in Baytown, Texas. He was the son of John Ray and Clyde Murphree Crow.
 
John graduated from Baytown High School in 1945, then joined the United States Merchant Marines and traveled on ships around the world during World War II. He joined the United States Army, in September, 1950 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on September 20, 1952.

John married Doris Lloyd on December 20, 1952, and they made their home in Houston, Texas. He completed training in the fire academy in July, 1958, and went to work for the Houston Fire Department. He worked his way up in rank from pipe and ladder to chauffer, then arson investigator and was the HFD polygraph operator. He retired in 1979, and continued to work as an independent polygraph operator for many years. John and Doris also owned a bay house in Galveston and enjoyed their time together fishing and shrimping. They moved to Hempstead in 1990, and after Doris passed away in November, 2006, he moved to Palacios, with his son and daughter-in-law.

John passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012, at his home in Palacios, Texas, at the age of 85.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Crow and his wife, Deborah, of Palacios; grandchildren, Jason Crow and his wife, Cori, of Rusk, Melissa Failla and her husband, Robert, of Fulshear, Stacy Hobbs and her husband, Aaron, of College Station; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Crow, Lexi Harvey, Austin Crow, Sydnee Failla, Shelby Failla, Samantha Hobbs, Kaitlyn Hobbs, Jenna Hobbs; brother, Bobby Crow and his wife, Mary; and special friends, Charles and Jane Taylor and Tom and Glenda O'Banion.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Crow; his parents; and his sister, Mellie Crow.

Special thanks to Hospice of El Campo, also Jan, Marie, Ellie and Vicki with Comfort Keepers of Victoria.

A visitation was held from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. before funeral service at 12 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2012 at Schmidt Funeral Home, Bellville. Shan Jackson officiated. Interment was at Hempstead City Cemetery.

Pallbearers: John Milton Crow, Michael Zach, Wayne Holdgraf, Clint Sciba, Keith Bronikowski, and Bill Law. Honorary pallbearers: Charles Taylor, Tom O'Banion, and Freddie Zach.

Lydia Ryman Crowell

Lydia Ryman Crowell, 56, of Wadsworth, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2013.

She was a loving wife, mother, Nana, sister and friend to all who knew her.

She was born December 10, 1956 to Roy Sr. and Charley Nell Ryman of Wadsworth. She will be forever loved and missed.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; twin brother, Frank Ryman and sister, Linda Lou Ryman all of Wadsworth.

She is survived by: her husband, Joseph Crowell whom she deeply loved and admired; three loving daughters, Stephanie Chambers (Jeremy), Natasha Chambers (Stacy), and the baby of her girls, Charley Chambers all of Wadsworth; two loving stepdaughters, Becky Crowell of Kansas and Connie Crowell of Tennessee; and six beautiful grandchildren, Alize Spradley, Kenneth Spradley, Zakylane Chambers, Allison and CJ Kachmarsky and Jessalyn Luther. She was also anticipating the arrival of two new grandbabies who are already greatly loved.

She is also survived by her big brother whom she loved dearly, Roy Ryman, Jr. and his wife Chom Ryman of Wadsworth; her brother-in-law, James Crowell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three nieces; five nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Word of Life Church in Wadsworth with Melvin Ryman officiating.

Reception (pot luck) will be at the Wadsworth Community Center after the service.

Funeral services for Rosemary Cruz, 26, of New Orleans, La., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Interment will be at Palacios Cemetery.

Rosemary was born Aug. 6, 1977 to Richard and Theresa Rivera in Palacios. She died Sept. 14, 2003 in New Orleans, La.

She is survived by her 3 -year old son, Ken Tran; 9-year old daughter, Karina Tran; parents, Richard and Theresa Rivera of Palacios; sisters Andrea Le, Paula Manrriquez and Delores Manrriquez all of Palacios; brothers Mario Manrriquez and Simon Rivera all of Palacios; grandmother, Clara Cruz of Palacios; three nieces; five nephews; and her many friends who loved her.

“Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone...Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in the heart.”

Leroy Charles Cunningham Sr.

Funeral services for the Rev. Leroy Charles Cunningham Sr., 85, of Bay City are scheduled for 11 a. m. Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Leroy Charles Cunningham Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p. m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Bay City. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a. m. Wednesday at the church.

Rev. Cunningham was born Sept. 29, 1908, in Texas to Silas and Cynthia Cunningham and died April 9, 1994, in Southwest Memorial Hospital in Houston.

He was a member of many organizations including the Baptist Ministers Association, South Texas District Association, Independent Baptist General Convention, Missionary Baptist General Convention of Texas, National Baptist Convention of American and the Progressive Order of Pilgrims.

Survivors include his wife, Cleo Patra Cunningham of Bay City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jeraldine Reado and Cynthia and Charles Mahoney, all of Houston; two sons, and daughters-in-law, Fulton and Maria Cunningham of Houston and the Rev. Leroy Charles and Andrea Cunningham Jr. of Bay City; three sisters, Gertrude Smith of Valejo, Calif., Carrie Hobbs of Houston and Mrs. Mattie Foston of Baytown; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, his Bethel Baptist Church Family and his pastor, the Rev. A. H. Pointer.

Pallbearers are Deacon Kenneth Young, Bro. Willie Rollins, Rev. Pleas Mayfield, Rev. Carl W. Floyd, Rev. Ruben Newell, Rev. Kenneth Bree, Rev. Isaiah Gartica and the Rev. Harry Williams.
