Funeral services for Thelma Baker, 89, of Bay City will be held 11 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.
Mrs. Baker was born June 19, 1901 in Thrifty, Brown County, Texas and died Feb. 26, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital.
She was born to early pioneer parents, Jim and Martha Mullins Cross. She was the youngest of 10 children and the last survivor of that early Texas family. She had been a resident of Bay City for 24 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City and the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She also had been an active member of the Pink Ladies organization at Matagorda General Hospital. Before moving to Bay City, she served as a Blue Bird Circle Volunteer of the Methodist Hospital in Houston.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Jim Howze and her husband Bill Howze, of Bay City; three granddaughters, Kim Howze Marceaux and her husband, Brent, of Bay City, Connie Howze Stall and her husband, Bill, of Austin, and Martha Morrow Petersen and her husband Jim, of San Marcos; a grandson, Michael Bat Morrow and his wife, Diane, of Houston; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Poston Baker, a daughter, Sue Baker Morrow, and a grandson, Larry Baker Morrow.
Pallbearer include Clyde Workman, Pete Harang, Raymond Stridde, Bobby Kimball, Bill Thompson and Pat Boepple.
Dr. Joseph Valloppillil will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Phyllis Jane Tobey Carr, 80, passed away
Monday, September 11, 2006 at her home in Bay City.
Francis Ray Carr Funeral services will be held for Francis Ray Carr, 65, of Bay City, 10 am Tuesday at Taylor Brothers Chapel. Officiating at the services will be Rev. LeRoy Stanton. Carr died March 13, 1982 at Hermann Hospital in Houston after a lengthy illness. Survivors include wife, Mrs. Phyllis J. Carr of Bay City; daughter Victoria Ray Carr of Bay City; brother, Lee Kirk Carr of Bay City; nephews, Dr. Joseph B. Lawhon, Kirk, Michael Ray and Sidney L. Carr of Bay City. Carr was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a veteran of WWII and a member of the Oddfellows Lodge. Buried will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Joseph B. Lawhon, Kirk, Michael Ray and Sidney L. Carr, Bill Arlitt and Walter L. Kurt. Pallbearers include co-workers of Dow Chemical of Bay City. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City.

Edwin Franklin Holloway, 78, of Bay City
was called forth from this earth on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at his
residence. He was born on June 26, 1924 in Rice, Texas to the late
Earl Jefferson and Eva Bernice Rorex Holloway. He was retired from
Phillips Petroleum and a lifetime resident of Bay City. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Bay City, a member of
the Old Ocean Masonic Lodge #1284 AF and AM and served in the United
States Navy during WWII.

Funeral services were held this morning in First Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Mary G. Horn, 69, who passed away Friday in Matagorda General Hospital.
The Rev. Dr. Tom Dyal and the Rev. Lloyd Nixon officiated with interment following in Roselawn Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband John; a son, Leslie Adams of Bay City; and three grandchildren, Leslie V. Adams, Martha Annette Blackwell and Mary Inez Adams, all of Bay City. She also leaves three great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Pete Graff of Palacios, Mrs. C. L. Lindgren of Sycamore, Ill. and Mrs. Josie Delano of Highlands; and a brother, Johnny Gregersen of Highlands.
Pallbearers were Ben Towler, Vic Burchfield, Rodney Harmond, Leo Petersen, J. W. Graff and Bart Morrow.
Taylor Brothers Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Local Rancher, J. E. Horn, 78, Rites Saturday
John E. Horn, 78, passed away this morning in Matagorda General Hospital. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel, Dr. A. T. Dyal of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary G. Horn, on Feb. 5, 1965.
Horn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bay City and a World War I veteran. Horn had been a local rancher for over 40 years.
Survivors include a son, Leslie Adams of Bay City; two sisters, Mrs. Artie Harbord and Mrs. Rose Watkins, both of Bay City; and two brothers, Grover Horn and Ray Horn of Bay City; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Bart Morrow, Ben Tyler, Leo Petersen, Rodney Harmond, Clyde Ashcraft, and Buster Nave.
Honorary pallbearers named are Grady Walker, Jim Tabb, Tom Poole, Voss McCroskey, Glen Hutson, Donald Poole, P. J. Kinard, E. W. Lynn, Jim Lewis, P. R. Hamill, Woody Nostro, W. A. Thompson, Vick Burchfield, and F. W. Graff.

Myrtle Smith Johnson, 86, of Denver,
Colorado and formerly of Bay City died Tuesday, June 13th in a
Denver area nursing care facility. She was born in Matagorda County
on May 23rd, 1914 to parents Tom and Irma Turner Smith and was a
life-long resident until moving to Colorado late last year. Funeral services for Ramon F. Johnson, 83, of Bay City, will be 2 pm, Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at First Baptist Church in Bay City with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 from 8 am to 9 pm at the Bay City Funeral Home Mr. Johnson died Nov. 30, 1999 at Bay Villa Nursing Home. He was born March 19, 1916 in Gonzales, Texas. He served in the Marine Corps during WWII, and worked many years at CP&L as a bookkeeper/accountant. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Bay City, a former member of the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, a Master Mason of the Bay City Lodge and was a long-time member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Bay City. Survivors include: wife, Myrtle Johnson of Bay City; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Earl and Mary Jo Johnson of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Mack Johnson of Houston and Earl Johnson of Bay City; sister, Allie Mae Lane of Bay City; and grandsons, Steven Matthew and Michael Ramon Johnson of Denver, Colo. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.
