Moderator – Rev. Jake Setser To the Presbyterian Church at Collegeport: We, the Members of the Collegeport Baptist Mission do respectfully petition you to grant us permission to have the use of your building for a midweek prayer service on Wednesday nights and complete charge of the Sunday night services for the reasons set out below: 1. We feel the midweek prayer meeting is necessary to our spiritual life and growth as Christians. 2. We feel the Baptist Training Union is necessary to the instruction, inspiration and training in church membership of our children and new members because of the purpose and aim of the Training Union which is: The church activities; their increased knowledge of the scriptures; their instruction in Baptist doctrine and History; their enlistment in all forms of missionary endeavor through existing denominational organizations. We feel the Training Union is the only satisfactory way to accomplish this purpose and aim and for that reason we ask for your permission to have complete charge of all Sunday Night Services and if your permission is granted the whole community will still be welcome to attend all the services. We will appreciate an early reply to our request.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jake Setser Dear Sir: In reply to your letter of Aug. 2nd, will say, that the decision of our “Church Session” is that it is impossible to grant your request for Complete charge of Sunday evening service. We still have “Christian Endeavor” work you know. Further more we are making plans to have full time pastor in our Church beginning Aug. 15th. We realize you had plans for the evening service Aug. 8th. Respectfully yours,
Mrs. L. E. Liggett
