Funeral services for Margaret Gee, 48, of Cedar Lake, will be held Saturday, August 31, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, TX, with the Rev. K. W. Bree, pastor, and the Rev. Larry Griggs, eulogist. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Visitation will be Friday, until 9 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

She was born in Cedar Lake, TX, Wednesday, August 4, 1954 to Emma Thomas and Jesse James Gee, and passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002, in Cedar Lane, TX.

Her last employment was with William Smith, Sr. Tri-County Head Start in Bay City.

Survivors include: one son, Patrick Gee of St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Tamekia Gee of Cedar Lane; mother, Emma Thomas of Cedar Lake; father, Jesse James Gee, Sr. of Cedar Lane; five sisters, Gladys Burnett and Lawrence, and Audrey Gee all of Cedar Lane, Wanda Monroe, June Perry and Alphonse, and Mary Norris, all of Cedar Lake, Rev. Larry Griggs, Sr. and Lula and Jesse Gee, Jr., all of Cedar Lane, and DeAndre Barnes and Dana of Houston; host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends who knew her as “Bop”.

Mary Gee

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Gee, 90, of Matagorda, will be held at 2 p. m., Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with Rev. Kenneth Bree officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

She was born in Matagorda May 21, 1907 to Walker Fletcher and Alice Johnson Fletcher, and passed away Saturday, Oct. 4 in Bay City.

Survivors include a son, Wilson Gee of Matagorda, and four great-great-nieces, Mrs. Doris Leslie, Mrs. LaSharel Jackson and Ms. Nancy Matthews, all of Bay City; Ms. Joy Matthews of Columbus; a nephew, Walker Alexander of Houston. Also a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Simuel Gee, four sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Capers, Monte Lee, James Matthews, Walter Lee, III, Sammie Lee and Jimmy Woods.

Mike Hillard Gee
November 22, 1923 - April 25, 2001

Mike Hillard Gee was born November 22, 1923, to Arthur and Callie Gee, in Sargent, Texas.

A retired police office, Mike was a devout Christian, taking a very active part, working for the Lord, Jesus Christ. He had been a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Angleton for 58 years, where he was Chairman of the Deacon Board, Superintendent of the Sunday School, and served on the Trustee Board. There are many things that Mike has accomplished during his life and he has touched many lives throughout the county, breaking down barriers with a quiet, peaceful manner, uniting human race.

His other accomplishments include being the first Black Police Officer of the Angleton Police Department, became Sargent, Lieutenant, and was later promoted to Captain, was acting Police Chief in 1993, for a time was member of Peace Officer Association, worked part time as Parole Officer, worked as Bus Driver of Headstart, member of Brazoria County Civic Club, Progressive Club, American Legion and the Masonic AF & M. Mr. Captain to many, was loved and will be remembered by many.

Now he goes home, the place for which he has sent much timber. On April 25, 2001, God, The Holy Spirit, has guided him to his eternal resting place to be with Our Heavenly Father who has presented him with crown of righteousness through our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who has given him this right to this inheritance. Well done, thy good and faithful servant.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clara Gee, Angleton, Texas; three sons, Rayfield Gee (Virginia), Tommy Gee (Debra) both of Houston, Texas, and Donald Gee, Angleton, Texas; three daughters, Patricia Felder of Sugar Land, Texas, Kathleen Bass (Samuel) and Diane Phillips, both of Angleton, Texas; one brother, Reverend John Taylor, Houston, Texas; one sister, Leona Williams (Nathaniel), Corpus Christi, Texas; 28 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Samuel H. Gee

Gee, Samuel H., 34, passed away in San Diego, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 4. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Tex., at 1:30 p. m. with the Rev. Lloyd Brown officiating. Gee was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gee of Cedar Lane. Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jo Ann Gee, children, sisters, brothers, relatives and friends. The body will lie in state at the church from 12:45 until 1:30 Sunday. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home.

Versie Mae Gee

Funeral services for Versie Mae Gee of Houston, Texas will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas with the Rev. K. W. Bree  Sr., pastor and Dr. Karey E. L. Gee, officiating.

Burial will follow immediately after services at Bethlehem Cemetery.

Versie Mae Gee age 62, passed away January 5, 2017, in Sugarland, Texas.

She leaves to cherish her memories her four children,  Eric of Houston, Texas, Tammie (Mashanko) of Seattle, Washington, Herman of Houston, Texas, and Shondrick of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Darion, Ari, Shamirah, Shamerah, Shataviah, Elontra, Alexis, and Jymara;  ten siblings,  Bernice, Dorothy, Mammie Lou, Judy, Frankie, Esther, Barbara, Karey, Franklin, and Wilson; one aunt,  Gertrude Fletcher; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Wilson Gee

Wilson Gee, the son of Clarinda Willis and Major Gee, was born August 1, 1877 in the Cedar Lake Community. He joined the Bethlehem Christian Church as a teenager under Elder Woodard. He served as Worthy Shepherd of the Progressive Order of Pilgrim for a number of years.

He leaves to mourn two sons, three sisters, three brothers, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Wilson lived to a ripe age, and lived a full life.

The words of the Apostle Paul are appropriate: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day."

Roosevelt “Bo” Green

Funeral services for Roosevelt “Bo” Green, 36, of Cedar Lane are scheduled for 1 p. m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with the Rev. Kenneth Bree officiating.

Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Christian Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon. A wake will be held tonight from 7 to 9 p. m. in the chapel of Green Mortuary.

Mr. Green was born Sept. 10, 1952, in Cedar Lane to Roosevelt and Carrie Woodard Green Sr. and died July 7, 1989, in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Survivors include his parents, Carrie Green and Roosevelt Green Sr. of Cedar Lane; a daughter, Tiffany Jackson of Houston; a son, Robert Spiller of Roosevelt; eight sisters, Vernie Green of Detroit, Mich., Dinah Murphy, Evelyn Ellis, Alnita Brown, Flora Green, all of Houston, Mary Bryant of Cedar Lane, Brenda Raymond of Lake Jackson and Katie Simpson of Missouri City; three brothers, Ervin Green of Detroit, Mich., Clarence Green of Clute and Robert Green of Houston; a great aunt, Lucretia Lewis of Cedar Lane; a great uncle, Robert Green of Cedar Lane; three sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Victoria Brown Green

Mrs. Victoria Green, the oldest daughter of Mr. William R. Brown and Lydia Brown was born in Cedar Lake, Texas, Matagorda County, November 30, 1890.

She joined the Bethlehem Christian Church at an early age under the pastorage of Elder Henry Woodard, and remained a faithful member until death.

Her first marriage was to Mr. Mose Williams. To this union two boys were born, Isham and Moses. Her first husband preceded her in death. She later married Mr. Cal Green. To this union a daughter Lizzie preceded her in death.

Tuesday, January 20, 1970 at 12:00 Noon she departed this life at the Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City, Texas.

She leaves a husband, Cal Green, Sr., two sons, Isham and Cal Jr., five brothers, one sister, ten grand children, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral service Saturday, January 24, 1970, 2:00 P. M., Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas, Rev. R. H. Paige, officiating.

Viola “Bee” Grice

March 23, 1946 – August 25, 2024

Homegoing celebration of life for Viola “Bee” Grice, age 78, of Bay City, Texas, will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2004 CR 162, Bay City, Texas 77414 (Bell Bottom Community), where Rev. Thomas Bree is Pastor and Eulogist.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery, Bay City, Texas (Cedar Lake Community.)

Public visitation will be on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at E Viola & Son Funeral Home, 205 N Broad Street, West Columbia, Texas 77486.

Viola was born on March 23, 1946, to the late Eddie Robert Griggs and Rosalie Bell Griggs, and her soul peacefully transitioned to her eternal resting place on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 10:52 in the morning, surrounded by her loving family. Her kind and gentle Spirit will be missed by all who loved her.

Viola attended public schools in Van Vleck, Texas, at O. H. Herman High School graduating with the Class of 1965. 

Viola accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church serving under the leadership of Pastor T. F. Bree, Jr., where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.

Viola loved her children especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life. As babies “Big Mama” were the caretaker of most of them.

Viola leaves to mourn her most precious memories to her twins, Gale Griggs of Bell Bottom and Dale Griggs of Bay City; bonus daughter, Audra Higgins (Gary) of Brazoria; daughter-in-love, Trisha Griggs of Lake Jackson; eleven grandchildren, Byron Mack, Terrisha Mays (Brandon), Bryan Mack (Lisha), Da’Marcus Griggs, Katrina Griggs, Jarvis Griggs, Desiree Turner (Kiev), Demetris Griggs, Ty Griggs, Sha’Mera Pettit, Reaghan Bree, and Bryce Griggs; fifteen great-grandchildren, Koffee Hansen, Brynden Mack, Bra’Cayla Mack, Jayden Mays, Jaylen Alliniece, Jaida Mays, Dallas Griggs, Sa’Maya Fields, London Dickson, Kaysen Turner, Jeremiah Griggs, Legend Griggs, Xavier Mack, Zola Mack and Xiona Turner; siblings, Ida Moore-Basey of Houston, Catherine McPherson (Eric) of Richmond, Eddie Griggs, Jr. (Gwendolyn) of Lake Jackson, Elroy Griggs (Sharon) of Brazoria, Lottie Casey of Bay City, Lewis Griggs (Vivian) of Houston, Benjamin Griggs of Houston, Ola Griggs Times of Brazoria, and Carolyn Griggs of Cedar Lane; sister-in-love, Bettie Smith of Bay City; special cousin, Rose Singletary of Van Vleck; and an enormous family which includes nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who will miss her tremendously.

He passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Harbor Hospice in Houston, TX.

Coach Griggs was a member of First United Missionary Baptist Church in Freeport, TX. He was a coach for many years and trained athletes in basketball and football. He was a positive role model who touched many lives.

He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Grice; sister, Willie Mack; Grandparents, Rosalie and Eddie Griggs, Ella and Eddie Grice; uncle, Jimmy Grice and aunt, Mary Moreno.

He is survived by his wife, Trisha Griggs, Manvel; mother, Viola Grice, Bay City; sons, Demetrius “D.J.” Griggs, Ty Griggs, Bryce Griggs, all of Manvel; sisters, Elanda “Gale” Griggs, Ywanda “Dale” Griggs, both of Bay City, Audra Higgins (Gary), Brazoria; Father-In-Law & Mother-In-Law, Milton and Pourchia Cockrell, Lake Jackson; 2 grandchildren, Dallas & Jeremiah Griggs and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was born December 25, 1914 in Matagorda County to the union of William Bell and Rebecca Gee. She passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2002k at her residence.

Basey of Houston, Viola Grice of Bell Bottom, Catherine Griggs of Seattle, WA, Eddie R. Wilbert Griggs

Funeral services for Wilbert Griggs, 21, will be held at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Lane, at noon Saturday with the Rev. N. J. Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery, Cedar Lake.

Visitation hours will be Friday afternoon. A wake will be held Friday from 7 p. m. – 9 p. m. The remains will liei n state at St. Mark from 11 a. m. – noon, Dec. 30.

Mr. Griggs was born in Texas on July 16, 1968, to Wayne Alexander and Lottie Griggs, and died on Dec. 27, 1989, at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a Baptist.

Survivors include mother Lottie Casey and step-father Willie Lee Casey of Bay City; two sisters, Artricia Casey of Bay City and Vickie Law of Joliet, Ill.; grandparents, Rosalie Griggs of Cedar Lane, A. Alexander of Cedar Lane, and Margarine Casey of Bay City; nieces Angel Mona and Dominique Casey of Bay City; godparents Edna and Curby Lee Harkless of Bay City; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and other relatives.

Pallbearers are Benjamin Griggs, Lewis Griggs, Elroy Griggs, Eddie Robert Griggs Jr., Albert Griggs, Wilbert Griggs and Leroy Sidney.

Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Scott, Robert Griggs, Wayland Griggs, Willie Franklin, Keith Grice and Verlon Griggs.
