Mrs. Rosa J. Austin, 98, of Bay City died April 30 at the Sweeny House Nursing Home. She was a resident of the Cedar Lake Community. Survivors include: one sister, Laura Austin of Brazoria; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 5, at 1 p. m. at the Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake with Rev. Lloyd Brown officiating. Interment will be at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake with her nephews acting as pallbearers. Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Sam Austin

Funeral services for Mr. Sam Austin, age 95, of Cedar Lake, will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 1996, at 2 p. m., at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, with Rev. K. W. Bree officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 1 to 2 p. m. at the church.

Austin was born in Cedar Lake, Texas, Thursday, July 25, 1901, to George Austin and Nancy Austin, and passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 1996, in Cedar Lake, Texas.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Austin and Lillie Bernard, both of Cedar Lake, and two sons, Willis Austin of Houston, and George Gee of Caldwell. Also one sister, Mrs. Maude Hawkins of Sargent, and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Estella Gee of Cedar Lane, and Mrs. Bessie Woodard of San Antonio.

He also leaves 51 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren, 44 great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by Mrs. Frankie Gee and six sons, Jim Woodard, Cleo Austin, Lawrence Woodard, Samuel Austin, Jr., Thomas Woodard and Willie Austin.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Doyle Austin, Ivan Austin, Clifford Bernard, Jr., Lester Bernard, Thomas Bernard and Elijah Barefield.

Honorary pallbearers will include George Gee, Tony Austin, Willie Austin and Jerome Lewis.

Funeral Services for Weenica J. Ballard, 44, of Freeport will be Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1615 Skinner Street, Freeport, TX with Pastor Donnell Johnson, Sr., eulogizing and Rev. Andrew Floyd officiating. Burial will be at Bethlehem Christian Cemetery in Cedar Lake, TX.

She was born on July 9, 1974 in Freeport, TX and passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at her residence.

After graduating from Brazosport High School in 1992, she attended Howard University where she majored in Communications. She was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church and a Beautician who enjoyed cooking and carpentry.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Angeline and Willie Edison and Lula and Edmond Ballard.

She is survived by her parents, Dail and Wilesta Edison Ballard, Freeport, TX, sisters, Twanna Buford Bowen (Roger), Austin, TX, Faith Deverger, Freeport, TX; brothers, Fudail Hasani “Sonny” Ballard, Austin, TX, Akil Ballard, Waco, TX; god sister, Veronica Deverger, Houston, TX; special aunt, Lydia Daily, Cedar Lake and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, September 24, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Dixon Funeral Home in Angleton.

John Lewis Barnes Sr.

November 26, 1950 - July 23, 2016

Funeral services for John Lewis Barnes Sr., of Rosharon, Texas, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Bethlehem Christian Church in Cedar Lake, Texas, with the Rev. K.W. Bree, pastor, and the Rev. Clifton Randon, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.

Visitation and guest book register will be held from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, July 29, 2016, at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel, 2500 Avenue C, Bay City, Texas.

He was born in Houston, Texas, November 26, 1950, to Lewis Barnes Sr. and Harriette Beasley Barnes, and passed away, July 22, 2016, in Brazoria County, Texas.

Prior to his demise, he was employed with Dow Community Hospital, Dow Mag Cell, STP-NOC, Heartstone System Living, and as an entrepreneur carpenter and dry walls.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Law Barnes; four children, John Lewis Barnes Jr. and Kelvin Barnes, both of Houston, Daronia Taylor (Harold) of Humble, and LaTorsha Foster (James) of Lake Jackson; step-daughter, Sherrena Lee (Dexter) of Plano; and a host of grandchildren.

Also three sisters, Mary Simon of Wharton, Billie Brown (Curtis) of Richmond, and Ann Robinson (Lewis) of Lake Jackson; five brothers, Lewis Barnes Jr. (Carol) of Pearland, George Barnes (Tammy) of Freeport, Johnnie Barnes (Mildred), and Donald Barnes (Donna), all of Angleton, and Samuel Brown ( Elizabeth) of Houston. Also an enormous host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

BAY CITY - Ophelia Hawkins, 69, passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. L.C. Cunningham, Jr., pastor, and Brother Elliott Moore, eulogist officiating.

Cassie Baugh

Funeral services for Cassie Baugh, 93, of Bay City, will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at 3 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. T. L. Richardson and Pastor Florida Smith officiating.

Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in Cedar Lake.

Mrs. Baugh will lie in state at the church from 2 until 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Visitation will be Tuesday at Green’s Mortuary from 2 until 8 p.m.

Family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. in the Chapel.

Cassie was born to Grant White and Texana Williams White on March 31, 1909 in Cedar, Texas.

She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City, Texas.

She leaves to cherish sweet memories to daughter: La Verne Baugh of Bay City, Texas; one sister, Agnes Bess of Magnolia, Texas; three grandchildren, Zalda Baugh, David Baugh and Stephen Saunders; two great-grandchildren, Kei’derrius Allen and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Her husband, Peachine Baugh, sisters, Emme Austin and Nancy Parks, and brothers, Van Spencer and Raymond Spencer, preceded her in death.

Active Pallbearers are Hubert Durgan, Clifford Durgan, Robert Durgan, Keith Allen, David Baugh, Wilbert Durgan and Manuel Robinson.

BAY CITY - Laverne Baker Baugh, 48, of Bay City, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006.

She was born July 10, 1957, in Bay City.

Survivors: daughter, Zelda Baugh of Bay City; son, David Baugh of Bay City; sisters, Lena Durgan and Sarah Puryear, both of Freeport; brothers, Clifford Durgan, Herbert Durgan Sr., Robert Durgan, all of Bay City, Gregory Durgan, and Carl Durgan, both of Freeport; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include: daughter, Betty Jean Alexander of Cedar Lane, and one granddaughter, Priscilla Alexander Brown and Calvin of Dallas; six great-grands, one great-great-grand; one sister, Josephine Green and Dave of Cedar Lane; one sister-in-law, Josephine Young of Bay City; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
