Bois d'Arc Creek The creek rises 2 miles northwest of Whitewright and runs northeast across Fannin County. It is 60 miles long. This creek was the place where most of the settlers settled when coming to Texas in 1836, after the Texas Revolution. The creek provided the name for the county seat of Fannin County when the settlers settled there in 1843. But in 1843 the name of the settlement was changed to "Bonham", the county seat of Fannin County. While he was traveling to the Alamo, Daniel Boone stopped in the area of Bois d'Arc Creek and wrote to his family about "Bodark Bayou", the richness of the area, and the possibility that he would settle in the area. Calf Creek (also known as Shannon Creek) Rises just northeast of Sherman and runs southeast for 7 miles to its mouth on Choctaw Creek, 7 miles east of Sherman. Choctaw Creek Rises 3 and 1/2 miles southwest of Sherman and runs for 38 miles to its mouth in the Red River at Anthony in Fannin County. The creek crosses into Fannin County just north of Ambrose, Grayson County, Texas. Iron Ore Creek Rises 1 and 1/2 miles east of Pottsboro and runs 12 and 1/2 miles southeast to its mouth on Choctaw Creek, which is five miles northwest of Ambrose. The area the creek runs over is fairly flat ground. Jordan Creek Locate 4 miles south of Whitesboro Fort Worth Daily Gazette August 19, 1890 A new iron bridge, seventy feet long is being erected over Mustang Creek Rises 3 miles east of the Grayson & Denton county line. The creek runs southwesterly for 13 miles to its mouth on Little Elm Creek in Denton County. A settlement by the name of Mustang was one of the pioneer settlements in Denton County and was established on the creek in the 1850s. Pilot Grove Creek There are two branches of this creek that join together at the main branch one mile west of Pilot Grove. The east branch rises one mile west of Whitewright and joins the main branch two miles north of Pilot Grove. The west branch rises near the town of Tom Bean and runs southeast for six miles to its mouth. The stream runs for 34 miles through Grayson and Collin counties and empties into Lake Lavon in Collin County. The major tributaries of Pilot Grove Creek are Desert and Sister Grove creeks. Post Oak Creek One of the two main tributaries of Choctaw Creek. Sister Grove Creek The creek rises 2 and a half miles east of Van Alstyne. It enters Collin County three miles southeast of Van Alstyne and flows for 26 miles to its mouth on Pilot Grove Creek. Tributaries of Sister Grove Creek are Sweetwater, Wolf Run and Stiff creeks. Wilson Creek (Collin County) Researcher's Note : The Wilsons & Douglass settled on a Peter's Colony Land Grant. They came from Tennessee with the Throckmortons.
