Genealogical Record of the Mayflower Descendants of Cape May County

John Rowland

JOHN ROWLAND of the Mayflower was born in England in 1592, died at Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, 23 February, 1672, Old Style, married ELIZABETH TILLEY, who came with her father, JOHN TILLEY, in the company of the Pilgrims in 1620. (See introduction page 88).

Their daughter, DESIRE ROWLAND, born at Plymouth, 1624, died at Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, 13 October, 1683, married 1643 Captain John Gorham, who was baptized at Benefield, Northamtonshire, England, 28 January, 1621, died at Swansey, Plymouth Colony, 5 February, 1675, Old Style.

Issue known to have descendants in Cape May County:

(1) DESIRE GORHAM

born 20 May, 1644, died 30 June, 1700, married at Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, 7 October, 1661, John Haws. (For descendants see page 320).

{2) HANNAH GORHAM,

born at Barnstable, Plymouth Colony, 28 November, 1663, died at Cape May, New Jersey, circa 1728, married, circa 1683, Joseph Whilldin, of Yarmouth, Plymouth Colony, born circa 1656-60, died at Cape May, circa 1725, and with her husband removed to Cape May. (For descendants see page 98). For an account of the Gorham family and the removal to Cape May of Joseph Whilldin (Wheelding) and his wife, HANNAH GORHAM, see "WAST BOOK" of Colonel John Gorham, page 7 of this volume.
