GOWER CEMETERY, Farmington

From Farmington, go east toward New Sharon. Pass Farmington Motel on the right, and proceed down "French's Flat" about a mile. On the left, there's a short road called Vipah Lane. This cemetery is easier to access by going up Vipah, turning right onto private property. Permission to access this cemetery is recommended. This cemetery is surrounded by a wall.

A newspaper article in an old Franklin Journal says Mary Gower's stone was carved by G. Pullen of Augusta

HAMPSHIRE HILL CEMETERY, New Sharon

From Route 2 in Mercer by the School, take Route 2 west. About a 1/2 mile from the school is a left turn - The Rome Road. Go out the Rome Rd. about 4 miles. Hampshire Hill Road on the right. Cemetery is up this road about 3/4 mile. Fenced. In fair condition. Many, many very old slate stones and a lot of indentations that indicate buriel sites, but no existing stones of any type.

Copied by Nancy Porter and Dorothy Beisaw in the fall of 1998
