One of my toughest nuts to crack has been the wife of my ggggrandfather, Moses NOYES, one Rhoda MERRILL. Moses NOYES III was b. 5/15/1808 in Pownal, Cumberland, Maine and d. 5/15/1868. I have nothing but the name of his wife, Rhoda MERRILL. According to Poland, ME, VR Births/Christenings (1752-1875) p. 68, ser. 840-2, Marshfield MERRILL and Anna JUMPER of Minot,
Androscoggin, Maine had 7 children, the second a Rhoda MERRILL, b. 25 August 1808. This is the same birth year as my Moses and the distance between Pownal and the Minot/Poland area is not too great. Does anyone have further information that could lead me to conclude that I've found my long-lost Rhoda?

INGALLS

The History of Auburn, Maine mentions Nelson INGALLS on page 250. I am trying to find out where George H. INGALLS came from and if there might be a connection to Nelson. My info on George is that his oldest child was born in California in 1873. His wife's family (DUCKWALL) came to California in 1853, so she was probably born after that time. I estimate that George would have been born about 1850 somewhere in Maine.

MOODY, Carleton P. First appears in 1850 Census for Carroll. Wife's name Jane; surname unknown. Children: Jones Carr Moody; Ashbury Annon Moody; Jane and Ida. Ashbury, Jane and Ida appear in the birth records for Carroll - Jones Carr does not. Jones was born in 1947. Birth about 1815 figuring on age given in the 1850 and 1860 census records. No further record on Carleton after 1860 census. He had married Alvecia Starbird of Carroll, had one son and three daughters. The family moved to Massachusetts after his death. GOSSELIN
Pierre Quenneville Jan 31, 1997
I am doing research on my great-grandfather, Gédéon Gosselin, who married Eloise (or Emma) Rouleau in Saint-Nicolas, Québec, on the 02.07.1887 and who presumably moved to Lewiston, Me, shortly afterwards. According to members of my family, Gédéon died in Lewiston around 1910 or 1911 and his widow, together with her six children, came back to Québec where she died in 1941. All children married in Québec so I figure there are no descendants of this family in Maine now.I would like to know when Gédéon died and where he was buried. Since we have very few documents on Maine here (save for the marriage records which are not useful to me) I could not trace his death. The only volume that I could consult is the Necrology of St-Peters and St-Paul Cemetery, that does not mention him.
I also would like to get the birth records of Gédéon's children. They are: Joseph-Elie (born 3.26.1888); Alcide (born 06.24.1892); Lionel (born in 1898); Wilfrid (born 01.23.1899); Alice and Anna. Il got the dates of birth of the children from our own registry of deaths, where the date of birth of the deceased person is automatically written. If I knew in which parish these records exist, I could write and have them sent to me by mail.
I am also wondering about one point. In the marriage record of one of my great-uncles (Lionel) it is said that his father come from the "Somerset County." Whereas, in the map that I have here, Lewiston seems to be in the Androscoggin County. Was Lewiston in the county of Somerset in the years 1880-1900??

[NB That the William Gott family is likely a family that moved from Gloucester MA after the American Revolution, maybe was living with his family on the Pejebscot Claim in 1790, as he was single and was not counted in Greene in 1790. There is a William Gott listed as a settler in Greene ME in 1784 Androscoggin Historical Society settlers list made by a court order of 1800. Our hypothesis is he was William Gott's father
