The creation date is unknown, but Talbot County existed February 12, 1661, when a writ was issued to its sheriff. The county was named in honor of Lady Grace Talbot, the wife of Sir Robert Talbot, and the sister of Lord Baltimore. It was initially divided into nine Hundreds and three parishes: St. Paul's, St. Peter's and St. Michael's. A portion of territory was lost when Queen Anne's County was formed in 1706.
Easton is the County Seat.
