The Alexander and Leonard Covington brothers of Prince George's County, Maryland, moved to Adams County, Mississippi, around 1810 with their families, slaves, and livestock.
Leonard Covington had recently been appointed Lt. Col. of the Light Dragoons at Fort Dearborn, near Natchez. During the War of 1812, Leonard was promoted to Brigadier General and was killed in battle in 1813. Leonard's wife was Rebecca Covington Mackall (abt 1770-1825).
