NC Joel Parker, son of Jonas Parker and Ruth Tapp, was born in Granville Co SC. He came to KY about 1835 with his parents and later became one of the earliest merchants of Slaughters. He was an early town trustee and a member of Zion Brick Baptist Church. He married Sarah Osborne 27 Jul 1848 Henderson Co and they were the parents of the 4 children with them in 1860 and also Joel Parker, born 1863, who married Janie Allen. In the 3 Aug 1944 edition of the Providence Journal-Enterprise there is an article about the celebration of their 64th wedding anniversary. The article lists their children: "one son, O.M. Skinner of Clay; three daughters, Miss Myrtie Skinner of Clay, Mrs. C.E. Roth of Evansville, and Mrs. Katherine McCarthy of Phoenix, Arizona."
