Generally speaking you may Walk In to the Register of Deeds and obtain copies for your Genealogy research. There are two types of copies Official and Unofficial. Official documents are processed first and usually for Genealogy Unofficial documents are ordered.
General Genealogy Information Register of Deeds Room #122 Sauk County West Square Building 505 Broadway Baraboo, WI 53913 Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Copies may not be available between 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., due to lunch breaks Must use pencil only No cameras, food or beverage are allowed in the records area May not alter, mutilate, or destroy a record Appointments are not necessary, however, this office reserves the right to limit the number of searchers allowed Office staff can assist you in finding the proper records, however, they are not at your disposal for checking records for you. Cost is $20.00 if found.
The clerk needs: Name of Bride and Groom, Date of Marriage, and if available, Book & Page number. Cost is $20.00 per first copy. Be
sure to enclose a money order (NO personal checks or cash accepted) and a self-addressed, stamped, legal-sized envelope. Allow
2-4 weeks for return.
