Spanish-American War

Albert C.J. Soderlund. Source:" Report of The Adjutant General of the State of New Jersey for the Year Ending October 31, 1909", Patterson NJ, News Printing Co. State Printers, 1909, pg. 159. Corporal , Company E, Second Regiment, New Jersey National Guard Volunteer Infantry, War with Spain, May 2, 1898- November 17, 1898 He was born in H=F6gsrum, Sweden, March 14, 1872 and emigrated to the US March 23, 1889 at the age of 16. He lived in Palisade Park. He is in the 1920 & 1930 Federal census. Albert died in the NJ Fireman's Retirement Home, Boonton NJ , February 27, 1957, interred in Brookside Cemetery, Englewood, NJ. Fredrick George Freestone. Born in Ridgewood NJ aug 18 1890. Married to Jenny Borgman date of registration is june 5 1917 Camp Dix sept 1917 assigned Hq Tr 78 Div till discharge Promotion Ha Jan 11/1918 foreign service May 19 1918 to March 13 1919 Discharge March 22 1919
Son of Sarah and Joseph Freestone. I have pictures I can share of him in formal WW1 uniform .

PVT Albert Jones Crum
served in the US Army in WW1 with 25th Company, 7th Battalion, 151st
Depot Brigade. He was awarded the Silver Chevron for his service. He
was born in Englewood, Bergen County on 5 May 1894 and died 19 February 1969.

World War II

Bartholf, Howard C., of Closter NJ (Bergen County) served in the US Navy in WWII on the battleship USS South Dakota. He was aboard the South Dakota at Tokyo Bay during the surrender of Japan. Also, my late Father-In-Law Frank J. Benning of Haworth NJ (Bergen County) served in the navy in WW2 aboard the USS Texas. He was at both Iwo Jima and Normandy while on the Texas (submitted by; Howard Bartholf Howard.Bartholf@carotek.com)

Klein, Sydney (Sid): served as a Colonel in the US Army in WWII. He was born 5/30/1913. He died 3/15/1993 in Teaneck, NJ. where he had resided. (Submitted by: John Segedy at segedy@gsinet.net)

Langan, Theodore John, from Leonia NJ. He was born June 28, 1923. He lived in Leonia, NJ at the time of enlistment, but actually enlisted in Massachusetts, where he attended school. He flew Catalinas with the Army Air Sea Rescue. He was in the 5th Emergency Rescue Squadron, which was a part of the 8th Air Force

Langan, John J. "Jack", of Leonia NJ. He enlisted 17 Dec 1943. Army Air Corps. He was born July 8, 1925.

Loeffel, Harold Paul, of North Bergen, New Jersey Service: Marine Corp. Honorably Discharged date: October, 1945 Rank when discharged: Platoon Sergeant He was wounded in Action on Okinawa and received the Purple Heart. (Donated by dloeffel@hotmail.com , Denise M. Loeffel)

Sliker, Nelson Stanton was born on May 18, 1913 in Hackettstown, NJ. He graduated from Hackettstown H.S., Rider College, and received a master's degree from Rutgers University. He was a 1st Lieutenant in Inf. 314th QM Bakery Co. from 6 January 1943 to 17 February 1946. Battles and campaigns: Eastern Mandates and Central Pacific. He was an Infantry Unit Commander. His decorations and citations include: Purple Heart with OLC; Victory Medal; Combat Infantry Badge; Asiatic-Pacific Medal; American Theatre Medal; Bronze Arrowhead for Eniewetok. He was wounded in February and July, 1944. After the war he was a high school teacher in East Orange, New Jersey. He died in 1967 at age 54. He is survived by his wife Emma and daughters Nancy and Karen and three granddaughters. (This information was taken from his original Military Record and Report of Separation Certificate of Service. LEONARD, ROBERT GEORGE, (SGT), served with the U.S. Marine Corps from Feb. 12, 1954 to Nov. 30, 1962. He served with many organizations and played baseball and basketball for both FMFLANT (Camp Elmore), Norfolk, VA, and MCRD, San Diego. (Submitted by Rober G. Leonard, rgleonard@earthlink.net)

Vietnam War

Howard E. Bartholfa former Bergen County resident. Howard grew up in Closter New Jersey. He joined the army in September 1965 while living in Closter. He served with the 459th Signal Battalion in Vietnam from October 1966 until September 1967. Howard returned, and lived in Closter and Bergenfield until 1973. (Donated by himself. Ronald G. Ciocci, lived in Wallington, New Jersey.

Leonard, Robert George, (JOCS) , served in both the U.S. Marine Corps (1954-1962) and the U.S. Navy, from April 21, 1974 to August 30, 1988. He was medically retired after serving 23 years active service (Submitted by Rober G. Leonard, rgleonard@earthlink.net)

JOHN [BUTCH] VELAZQUEZ SERVED IN VIET-NAM FROM 05/68-04/69 HE WAS WITH THE 82nd Airborne 1/508/ 3rd Brg. D-Company Recieved Purple Heart & Bronze Star while serving in that command. William Morrison.Served with the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), 15th AG Company at Bien Hoa, RVN from August 1970 to August 1971. I am a graduate of Teaneck High School. I lived in Teaneck, Bergen County, NJ from 1953 until 1960, when I was drafted into the U.S. Army. I stayed in the Army and retired Jun 1, 1982 in Indianapolis, IN. Allen Weitzman.lived in Fair Lawn, NJ and was assigned to the First Infantry Division in 1967. While there he was initially assigned to Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, Second Infantry - Daring Alpha and was later assigned to HHQ, 3rd Brigade where he published a newspaper and then was involved in base security at Lai Khe (Submitted by Allen Weitzman, aweitzman@ivesgroup.com)


Desert Storm

Richard F. Becker graduated from Hackensack High School in 1980 and joined the US Navy after graduation. During Desert Storm he served on board the USS Arthur W. Radford (DD 968). He also served during the evacuations of Albania and Kosovo on board the USS Pensacola (LSD 38). He retired from the Navy in July 2000 as a Navy Counselor First Class (Surface Warfare Specialist/Aviation Warfare Specialist).(Submitted by self at rbecker@bsamail.org )
