John Potts Minnick

John Potts Minnick was born 23 Dec 1840, the son of John C. Minnick and Eve Fudge.

John P. Minnick, age 21, enrolled for active service on June 18, 1861, at Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia into Captain James C. Campbell's company, the Mountain Marksman Virginia Volunteers. He is shown as "sick at Hospital" for the month of October, 1861, and was shown on the register of the C.S.A. General Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia from June 19, 1862, until August 11, 1862, with the complaint of "Act. Diairhoea". He received clothing in the latter part of 1863, and in 1864. He was listed as present from April 1864, to December 1864, and is included in a list of Prisoners of War surrendered by General Robert E. Lee to Lieut. Genl. U.S. Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865. He is shown as a Private in all of these records. [From National Archives, Microfilm of 48 Virginia Inf'y, Service Record].

After the war he married Amanda Jane Craig Hagy on 9 Apr 1868, and they had the following children - James Harrison Minnick, b. 20 Aug 1869; an unnamed infant son, b. 12 Jul 1871; Mary Katherine Minnick, b. 1 Aug 1872; William Fudge Minnick, b. 7 Jun 1875; Joseph M. Minnick, b. 2 Oct 1877; John J. Minnick, b. 12 Nov 1880 (died as infant); Andrew Gordon Minnick, b. 5 Jun 1882; Elizabeth Ann Minnick, b. 17 Aug 1884; Conley C. Minnick, b. 12 Apr 1886; Ora F. Minnick, b. 17 May 1887; Alice B. Minnick, b. Sep 1889; and John W. Minnick, b. 21 Oct 1891 (died as infant).

John Pottts Minnick died on 17 Jul 1915 in Washington County, VA and is buried in the Perdue Cemetery near Abingdon.
