Everhart, Calvin - Loudoun Times Mirror.  "Calvin Barrett Everhart, 28, young Lovettsville farmer,
 
was found unconscious at about 3:30 Monday afternoon on the state road two miles south of
 
Lovettsville by Ralph Fields, Lovettsville, Everhart was rushed to Loudoun hospital by Fields
 
and Charles Marcum.  He died there at about 4:00 p.m.  Corner W.P. Frazer and Sheriff S.P. Alexander
 
who investigated the tragedy reported that death was accidental and caused by a fractured skull. 
 
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Everhart, Calvin had been out riding and apparently had been thrown by the horse,
 
which is the property of Raymond Myers, Purcellville.  When discovered, the horse “a child-broken mare”,
 
was standing quietly beside Everhart.  The horse legs and sides were badly bruised, probably from a fall. 
 
Besides his parents, Everhart is survived by his wife, the former Majorie Marshall of Oatlands,
 
five children, Patricia Ann, James Ernest, Jean Ellen, Randolph, and Calvin Barrett, Jr.  Also surviving are
 
a brother Leonard, and three sisters, Bernice and Shirley, all of Lovettsville, and Mrs. Claude Fox, Hamilton.
 
Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville."

retired dairy farmer in the Neersville section of Loudoun, died Jan . 28 after a brief illness. 
 
He was stricken in his home and died en route to Loudoun Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Everhart, lifetime resident at Neersville,
 
owned and operated two farms there before his retirement.  He was a son of John Walter and Emma Drucilla Potts,
 
and was the last member of his immediate family.  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nora Davis Everhart; a daughter,
 
Mrs. Sam R. Edmondson, Purcellville; two sons, Dr. Edwin L. Everhart, Cumberland, Md., and

Gloria and Richard Kester of Anchorage, Alaska and Carolyn and Don VanDusen of Eugene,

Green, Anna Pauline - Loudoun Times Mirror, March 15, 1995.  Anna Pauline Green, 90, a
 
resident of Lovettsville, died March 7 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Leesburg.  She was
 
born April 23, 1904, in Loudoun County, daughter of the late George Washington and Olivia
 
Roller Virts.  She was a member of the Knoxville Church of God in Knoxville, Md.  She was
 
predeceased by her husband, Carroll George Green.  Surviving are her sons, Addison C. And
 
Johnnie R. Green, both of Knoxville, and Howard G. Green of Holiday, Fl.; sister Catherine
 
Virginia Nelson of Lovettsville; grandchildren Shirley Wilson, Bonnie Green, Patricia Walker,
 
Gary Green, Jan Brown, Sharon Green, Wayne Green, and Mark Green.  Interment was in

Grubb, Laban C. - Loudoun Times Mirror, December 4, 1939.  Laban C. Grubb died at a
 
sanitarium in Georgia, November 4, from infirmities of age.  Mr. Grubb was the son of the
 
late Ebenezer and Cecelia George Grubb of Lovettsville where he lived the early part of his life.
 
  His first wife was Mrs. Mary Esther Boger of Lovettsville, who died 24 years ago, and two sons
 
of this union, Robert of Lothan ,Ala., and William of Georgia, survive.  Mr. Grubb moved to about
 
38 years ago with his family to Tennessee, where he with his son, William, was engaged in
 
manufacturing ice.  Fifteen years ago they moved to Georgia.  Besides his two sons, he is
 
survived by his wife, Mrs. Pearl Grubb; three sisters, Mrs. Dolly Compher of California, Mrs.
 
Ann White of North Dakota, Mrs. Bertie Emich of Washington; two brothers, Jack of St. Louis
 
and Harry of California.  Interment was in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Heskett, Irving - Loudoun Times Mirror, May 5, 1983.  Irving Franklin Heskett, 71, of Lovettsville, died
 
April 27 at Loudoun Memorial Hospital in Leesburg.  He was born in Lovettsville on Jul 1, 1911 and
 
was a son of James E. and Viola Wilt Heskett.  Survivors are his wife, Naomi Pearl Heskett, whom
 
he married Nov. 6, 1953; one daughter, Barbara Ross of Richmond, Va; one son, Irving F. Heskett, Jr.,
 
of Lovettsville; tow sisters, Ruth H. Simpson of Purcellville and Alma Arnold of Leesburg; and one
 
brother J. Edwin Heskett of Brunswick, Md.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.

Brunswick, Md., died Jan. 19 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.   Born March 25, 1992, in Frederick,
 
he was the son of the late James Ervie and Viola Wilt Heskett.  Surviving are his wife, Luvina Hylton
 
Heskett; two daughters, Margaret Huffer, Brunswick, and Natalie Heskett, Leesville, La.; two sons,

Heskett, James Ervie - Loudoun Times Mirror, March 17, 1940.  Funeral services were held Sunday
 
for J. E. Heskett, who died at his home near Lovettsville after being confined to his bed for several
 
weeks with heart disease.  He was 69 on day of his death.  He was the son of the late William
 
and Sara Cole Heskett of Loudoun.  His wife, Mrs. Viola Wilt Heskett, died four years ago.
 
Surviving are the following children:  Mrs. Ruth Cole of Purcellville; Mrs. Eva Bexton, Poolesville, Md.,

Lovettsville resident, died Aug. 15 at Loudoun Memorial Hospital Center in Leesburg.  Born in
 
West Virginia, she was the daughter of Charles William Pearl and Bessie Wilt.  She was
 
preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Pearl, Harvey Pearl, and Byron Pearl; and
 
her husband, Irving F. Heskett.  She is survived by a son, Irving Frank Heskett Jr. of Lovettsville,

Hunter, Anna - Loudoun Times Mirror, February 5, 1931.  The funeral of Miss Anna Hunter
 
of near Morrisonville, Va., was held Sunday afternoon.  She was 71 years of age, and was
 
the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Hunter.  She had spent her entire life in the
 
Lovettsville community.  Her death was caused by paralysis.  Surviving is one sister, Miss
 
Nettie Hunter.
 
 
 
Hunter, Phoebe E. - Blue Ridge Herald, January 17, 1942.  Miss Phoebe E. (Nettie) Hunter,
 
aged 80, the last of the children of the late George P. and Amanda Virts Hunter of Lovettsville,
 
died January 17 at the home of L. W. Beans near Hillsboro.  She fell and broke her hip about
 
a year ago but never recovered.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Johnson, Esther - Leesburg Today, June 4, 1997.  Lifelong Lovettsville resident,
 
Esther Lamar Johnson died Monday, June 2 at her home at the age of 101.  She was
 
born in February 1896.  She was the daughter of Robert Geary Johnson and Ella Esther
 
George Johnson.  She is survived by her nephew Robert Wire.  She was preceded in
 
death by her sisters Columbia Johnson Wire and Freda Johnson.  Interment was in the

well-known farmer and a former member of the County Board of Supervisors, died suddenly from a
 
heart attack Sunday at his home near Lovettsville.  He was a son of the late Charles W. and Jane
 
Conard Johnson all of Loudoun.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella E. George Johnson; three
 
daughters, Miss Frieda Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee, Mrs. Lamar Wire and Miss Esther Johnson

Mrs. Gertrude Atwell of California and a brother, Elbert Johnson of Lovettsville.  Interment was in the

resident of Lovettsville, died Oct. 20 as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident of
 
Rt. 690 south of Lovettsville.  He was the son of Raymond R. Sr. and Lillie Frye Kelley of Lovettsville.
 
In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Gail Raymond of Leesburg and Monica Kelley
 
of home; two brothers, Mark and David Kelley of the home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Florence Fyre

Kidwell, Charles W. - Loudoun Times Mirror.  Charles William Kidwell died Nov. 22 at the age of 80
 
at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Anderson, in Brunswick.  A native of Loudoun County, he
 
had been living with his daughter during the six months just preceding his death.  He was a son of
 
the late Thomas and Mary Prince Kidwell.  In addition to Mrs. Anderson, he is survived by three
 
daughters, Mrs. Elroy Grimes, Frederick; Mrs. Frank McFarland, Norfolk; and Mrs. Dorothy Specht

son-in-law, Louise F. and William K. Weddle, 416 Birmingham Dr., Frederick, died Sunday, Oct. 2,
 
at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.  Born April 26, 1895, Hillsborough, Va., Mrs. Mansfiled
 
was a daughter of the late Charles and Sally Connor Coffman.  She was predeceased by two husbands,
 
Edgar H. Virts in 1939, and Martin L. Mansfield in 1980.  Mrs. Mansfiled was a former employee with the
 
YMCA in Brunswick.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brunswick and was
 
the oldest living charter member of the Women of Moose, Brunswick.  Surviving are two daughters,
 
Louis F. Weddle of Frederick, Ethel Burnett of Fort Stanford, Texas, one son George L. Virts of

died April 16 at Loudoun Hospital Center.  Born June 19, 1951, in Leesburg, she was the
 
daughter of Leslie Philip and Madeline Tarman Virts of Lovettsville.  Surviving in addition
 
to her parents, are her children, Charles William Monroe, Jr., Debbie Ann Monroe, Brenda
 
Ann Monroe, and Matthew Allen Monroe, all of Lovettsville; three brothers, Phillip F. Virts, Jr.
 
of Brunswick, Md., and Charles L. Virts of Lovettsville; and a sister, Doris Dianne Barr of Altus, Ok.
 
  Interments was in Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
 
Moss, Rebecca - Loudoun Times Mirror, May 10, 1979.  Rebecca Ann Moss, 90, a retired C&P
 
Telephone employee and Leesburg’s first telephone operator died May 3 at Shawnee Springs
 
Nursing Home, Winchester.  She was the wife of the late George H. Moss.  Born in Waterford,
 
Mrs. Moss was a daughter of Iziah and Annie L. Virts.  She is survived by one nephew, Clifton Virts,
 
Frederick, Md.  Interment was in Leesburg Union Cemetery.
 
 
 
Myers, Eliza - Frederick Post, April 18, 1994.  Mrs. Eliza George Myers, 85, a lifelong resident of
 
Lovettsville, Va., died Saturday, April 16, in Loudoun Long Term Care facility, Leesburg, Va..  She
 
was the wife of Robert A. Myers, who died in 1970.  Born May 21, 1908, on her family’s farm in
 
Lovettsville, she was a daughter of the late Samual and Cecila McKimmey George.  Mrs. Myers
 
was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Myers, Robert A. - Loudoun Times Mirror, April 23, 1970.  Robert Arthur Myers, 60, principal of the
 
Lovettsville Elementary School for the past 16 years, died Sunday in Frederick, Md., Memorial Hospital
 
after a long illness.  A Son of the late Paul W. And Blanche Frye Myers.  Surviving are his wife, Eliza
 
George Myers; his step-mother, Mrs. Winifred Myers; a half-brother, Paul Thomas Myers, and a half-sister,
 
Mrs. Patricia Boothe.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Nisewarner, Gertrude - Loudoun Times Mirror, April 2, 1970.  Gertrude M. Nisewarner, 78, a native of
 
Loudoun County, died Mar. 29 in Manassas.  She was the widow of Lester H. Nisewarner.  A daughter
 
of the late Ewell and Susie Payne, Mrs. Nisewarner lived at 801 N. Greenbrier St., Arlington, Va.
 
Surviving are three children, Charles A. of Maryland, Leslie E. of Alexandria, and Mrs. Helen E.
 
Barrett of Arlington; two sisters, a brother.  Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Farifax.
 
 
 
Nisewarner, Henry M., Loudoun Times Mirror, December 27, 1934.  Funeral Services were held
 
Christmas Day for Henry Nisewarner at his home in Lovettsville.  He had been in failing health
 
for several years.  He was a blacksmith by trade.  Besides his widow, who was a Miss Virts he
 
is survived by five daughters:  Mrs. May Beales of Hamilton, Mrs. Lula Arnold, Mrs. Everlyn Potterfield,
 
Mrs. Altha Fry all of Lovettsville, Mrs. Lillian Joyner of Washington and two sons, Charles Nisewarner
 
of Pennsylvania and Lester Nisewarner at home.  Interment was in Mt. Olivet Methodist cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Nuce, Bud - Loudoun Times Mirror, November 1960.  Bud Nuce, 74, lifelong resident of Loudoun
 
Heights, died while visiting at the home of friends in Sandy Hook, Md. Last Thursday.  He died
 
suddenly from a heart attack.  The deceased made his home in the past few years with son and
 
daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nuce in Purcellville.  Mr. Nuce is survived by a son Robert
 
with whom he lived, a daughter, Miss Bertha Nuce of Falls Church, a sister, Mrs. James Hackley
 
and one brother Harry Nuce, of Loudoun Heights.  Interment was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Loudoun Heights.
 
 
 
Nuce, Maggie - Frederick Post, April 1944.  Mrs. Maggie Nuce, aged 52, wife of “Bud” Nuce,
 
died at her home in Loudoun Valley Sunday after an illness of two weeks.  Besides her husband,
 
she is survived by one son, Robert and a daughter, Miss Bertha Nuce at home.  A sister and four
 
brothers in the Lovettsville community also survive.  Interment was in the Ebenezer Cemetery, Loudoun Heights.
 
 
 
Phillips, Margaret - Frederick Post, May 11, 1997.  Mrs. Margaret McLane Phillips, 95, died
 
Saturday, May 10 at Vindobona Nursing Home, Braddock Heights.  Born Nov. 1, 1901, Brunswick,
 
she was a daughter of the late William and Emma Virts Donovan.  Surviving are two sons,
 
Charles D. McLane, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Brunswick, and John W. Mclane and wife Jean
 
of Bel Air; two sisters, Doris Freed of Frederick and Patsy Rowan of Brunswick; seven grandchildren,
 
Monica Cady of Hayward, Calif., Peggy Griffith, David McLane and Timmy McLane, all of Brunswick,
 
Danny McLane of Middletown, Lisa Garris of Reston, Va., and John McLane of Bel Air.  Mrs. Phillips
 
was preceded in death by two husbands, David W. McLane who died in 1950, and Carrol D. Phillips
 
, who died in 1982; four sisters, Eva Bennet, Catherine Wagner, Louise Rohrbaugh and Norma McGuire;
 
and three brothers, Leon Donovan, Dickie Donovan and Leonard Donovan.
 
 
 
Potts, Otis - Loudoun Times Mirror, December 18, 1975.  Otis Lee Potts, 75, of Hillsboro,
 
died Dec. 11 at Loudoun Memorial Hospital, follow a long illness.  Born in Loudoun, Mr. Potts
 
was a son of Walter L. and Mary Etta Kidwell Potts.  Surviving are his wife, Edith Virts Potts;
 
three daughters, Eileen Humphrey of Round Hill, Melba mills of Frederick, and Dorothy Titus of
 
Leesburg; a son, Earl Lee Potts of Orlando, Fla.; and one sister, Agnes V. Potts of Hillsboro.

of Waterford, Va., died Monday, Oct. 20, at his residence.  He was the husband of Edna M.
 
Rollison.  He was born Feb. 4, 1901, in Waterford, Va., a son of the late Philip and Emma Virts
 
Rollison.  Surviving besides his wife are a son, Delbert E. Rollison of Waterford, Va.; two brothers,

He was predeceased by a son, Philip Rollison of Brunswick, who died in 1984.  Interment

28 year employee with the Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company of Winchester and the
 
leading staff salesman in 1981, died Aug. 17 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was a
 
resident of Brunswick, Md.  He was born Feb. 5, 1926 in Lovettsville, a son of John and Edna
 
Wright Rollison of Waterford.  Mr. Rollison was a veteran of WW II.  Surviving in addition to
 
his parents are his wife, Gretchen Moler Rollison one son, John Harvey Rollison of Brunswick, Md.;

Wednesday, February 10, for Ebon S. Simpson, 77 who died at his home near Lovettsville on
 
February 7.  Mrs. Simpson had been suffering from a heart aliment for a week.  His parents

Specht, Dorothy M. - Frederick Post, March 24, 1980.  Mrs. Dorothy M. Specht, who resided at
 
124 West Fourth St., died at the Winchester Memorial Hospital in Winchester, Va., on Saturday,
 
March 22.  She was born in Lovettsville, Va., on October 20, 1914, the daughter of the late Charles
 
William and Della Virts Kidwell.  Her husband, Marion L. Specht, predeceased her in February of 1951.
 
Surviving are, one son, Kenneth A. Specht of Leesburg, Va., a sister, Mrs. Elroy (Hazel) Grimes of Rt. 3,
 
Frederick, a grandson, Aaron L. Specht.  Interment was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
 
 
 
Stone, Benton - Loudoun Times Mirror, December 1981.  Benton Stone, 74, of Waterford,
 
a Loudoun native, died Nov. 30 at Fairfax Hospital. Born Jan. 31, 1907 in Loudoun, Mr. Stone had
 
attended the old Brookland School near Morrisonville.  He is survived by his wife Goldie Pauline Stone;
 
a step-daughter, Lureen Laing of Wilmington, Del.; two half-sisters, Helen Wright of Purcellville and

of Millwood.  Beside her parents, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Judy Garcia of San Antonio, Tx.
 
and Kathy Virts of Millwood; three brothers, Eugene Virts Jr., Roger Lee Virts, and Thomas Virts, all
 
of Millwood; and her  paternal grandmother, Mrs. Pauline Virts, of Lovettsville.  Interment was in the Mt.

Verts, Emma Ann - Blue Ridge Herald, June 20, 1940.  Mrs. Emma Ann Verts, aged 71, formerly
 
of Leesburg, died Saturday after a brief illness at her home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr.
 
and Mrs. William O. Dosh in Gaithersburg, Md., where she had made her home for the past 13
 
years since the death of her husband, George Verts.  She is survived by a son, William T. Verts
 
of Washington and two daughters, Mrs. Edwin E. Detrick of Philadelphia and Mrs. Dosh.
 
 
 
Verts, Jonah O. - Loudoun Times Mirror, March 2, 1925.  Jonah O. Verts, formerly of this county,
 
died on Monday of this week at Neslon, Missouri.  When a young man he left Virginia to make
 
his home in Missouri where he had become a successful business man and an influential citizen.
 
Mr. Verts, who was sixty-three years of age, was widely known in this county.  He is survived by
 
three brothers, Isaac M. Verts, Joseph A. Verts, formerly of Glenwood, near Leesburg but now
 
living at Vienna.  Two sisters also survive, Mrs. J.A. Tiggins of Missouri and Mrs. L.C. Reeves
 
formerly of Mountain Gap but now living in Washington, D.C.
 
 
 
Vickers, John Grant - Blue Ridge Herald, December 25, 1941.  John Grant Vickers, aged 71, was
 
stricken with a heart attack on Saturday.  He was a son of the late John T. And Rachel Wade
 
Vickers of Lovettsville.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Eliza Virts Vickers; two sisters, Mrs. Ashton
 
Frye of Neersville and Mr. Edgar Virts of Frederick, and by two brothers, James Vickers of
 
Purcellville and Milton “Jack” Vickers of Lovettsville.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Virts, Abraham - Loudoun Mirror, January 30, 1914.  Abraham Virts died very suddenly on
 
Sunday at the residence of his son-in-law Flavius Stephens.  He had been somewhat complaining
 
for a day or two but was not supposed to be anything serious and still going about.  He was found
 
dead out in the wood shed.  He was 75 years of age.  He leaves a wife and four children, two boys
 
and two girls to mourn his loss.
 
 
 
Virts, Ada, - Washingtonian, October 22, 1898.  Miss Ada Virts, daughter of Mr. George W. Virts,
 
died after a brief illness of typhoid fever at her father’s home near Bolington, on Tuesday morning,
 
aged about twenty years.

the home of her son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Swartz, near Lovettsville.  She was a daughter of
 
the late George and Emma Speaks Riley and a member of Mt. Olivet Methodist Church.  Mrs. Virts
 
is survived by her husband, Russell J. Virts of Lovettsville, her daughter, Mrs. Swartz, and three grandsons
 
.  She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mae Shumaker of Lovettsville and Mrs. Rosa Hawes of Frederick
 
and two brothers, John Riley of Baltimore and Harrison Riley of Lovettsville.  Interment was in the Mt.

Roy M. Virts, died on Tuesday at her home in Brunswick.  She was a daughter of late Augusta
 
and Jennie Dixon Soper.  She is survived by the following children:  Mrs. Mildred T. Baugher,
 
James M. Virts, Earl M. Virts and Charles T. Virts all of Brunswick.  Two brothers, Charles and
 
Frank Soper of Frederick and two sisters, Mrs. Delia Whitter of Adamstown and Mrs. Rebbeca
 
Harding of Frederick.  Interment was in Knootz Chapel Cemetery, Lilypons.
 
 
 
Virts, Berkley Smith - Loudoun Times Mirror, September 1987.  Berkley Smith Virts, 71,
 
of Hillsboro, died Sept. 1, at Fairfax Hospital.  Born Jan. 28, 1916, in the Morrisonville
 
section of Loudoun County, he was the son of Elbert J. and Lela Smith Virts.  Mr. Virts
 
was a retired farmer and former employee of the Coca Cola Company in Silver Spring, Md. 
 
He also formerly  owned and operated the Phillips 66 service station in Leesburg and managed
 
the Leesburg Laundry.  At the time of his retirement he was employed by Southern States in
 
Leesburg.  Surviving are his wife, Marion Abel Virts of Hillsboro; two brothers, E. Leon of Silver
 
Spring, Md., and Aubrey L. Virts of Hamilton; a sister-in-law Dorothy Abel Virts of Hillsboro.
 
Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
 
Virts, Bessie - The Mirror, December 16, 1880.  Bessie Virts, aged 8 years, died at the
 
residence of her parents, Abraham and Florida Virts, on Tuesday, Nov. 30th, 1880.
 
 
 
Virts, Charles Chester - Mountain Echo, March 16, 1918.  C.C. Virts, of Newburg, a well known
 
Cumberland division engineer, who was operated upon at the city hospital Thursday for an inward
 
goiter, was unable to withstand the severe operation and succumbed last Friday evening at
 
6:30 o’clock.  The deceased gentleman leaves a wife and six children, two of whom are married
 
and four at home.  He was brother of Mrs. M.L. Matheny, of this city.  The body was taken to
 
Newburg for burial.  Mr. Virts was highly respected citizen of Newburg and was a member
 
of the town council and a prominent member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
 
He was aged forty-eight years old.  Mr. Virts formerly resided here.  He leaves a wife and six
 
children, his father, J.W. Virts, one brother Yardmaster W.H. Virts, of Keyser, and two sisters,
 
Mrs. Wm. Martin, Keyser, and Mrs. W.J. Shanholtzer, Newport News.

native, Maryland legislator and public figure, died March 28 at Frederick Memorial Hospital,
 
Frederick, Md.  Born March 3, 1910 in Leesburg, he was a son of Charles Clifton Virts and
 
Maude Smith Virts Harrris.  Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Stella Ann Virts; a son
 
C. Clifton Virts III of Frederick; daughter Cynthia Virts Wickless, Storrs, Ct.; daughter-in-law,
 
Marcia Virts; son-in-law, Dr. William J. Wickless; two sisters, Nancy Mercer and Marguerite

Virts, Charles Clifton, Sr. - Frederick Post, April 18, 1994.  Mr. Charles Clifton Virts, Sr., a
 
Pollock Pines, Calif., resident died at his home, Friday, April 1, of natural causes.  He was
 
79.  Born April 20, 1914, in Leesburg, Va., he lived in El Dorado County for 34 years. 
 
Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, Charles C. Virts, Jr. of Sacramento, Calif. and
 
Robert E. Virts of Camas, Washington; four sisters, Alice Fogle and Katherine Speaks,
 
both of Frederick, and Grace Steele and Violet Tudor, both of Baltimore.  Interment was
 
in the Westwood Hills Memorial Park, Placerville.

died on Thursday in Manuel Rest Home at Hillsboro.  He had been a patient there for
 
several months..  Mr. Virts, served as postmaster at Lovettsville for eight years prior to 1936.
 
A native of Loudoun, he was a son of the late Jacob and Julia Frye Virts.  His wife Mrs. Susie
 
Virts died in 1942.

Brunswick died Friday at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the son the late Roy M. and
 
Annie Soper Virts.  Surviving him are two brothers, James Virts and Earl Virts, both of Brunswick,
 
one sister Mildred Himes of Knoxville.  Interment was in the Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.

Leesburg, Va., died Monday, March 22, at Warrenton Overlook Nursing Home, Warrenton, Va.
 
He was the husband of Viola V. Virts of Bluemont, Va.  Born March 10, 1925, he was a son
 
of the late Thomas Virts and Mary Pauline Anderson Virts.  Surviving, in addition to his wife,
 
are four daughters, Shirley Rugemer, Mary Johnson and Nancy Miller, all of Leesburg, Va., and
 
Sarah Smith of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; two sons, Chester Virts, Jr. Of Leesburg and Donald Virts
 
of Bluemont; two sisters, Shirley Edwards of Lovettsville, Va., and Evelyn Pierce of Middleburg, Va.

Virts, Conrad - The Mirror, December 15, 1888.  At his residence near Ebenezer Methodist
 
Episcopal Church in this county on Dec. 2d, 1881.  Mr. Conrad Virts, in the 91st year of his
 
age.  He was soldier in the war of 1812, and was honorably discharged.  He was also a member
 
of the Ebenezer Methodist Episcopal Church for many year and died in great peace, trusting in
 
Christ.  Many a weary itinerant preacher found comfort, shelter, and rest in his home.

Waterford died March 1, at his residence.  He was a self employed farmer.  He was
 
born in Loudoun County on April 15, 1908 and was a son of Iley J. and Wealthia Warner
 
Virts.  Survivors are his wife, Pauline Payne Virts; three sons, Daniel Virts, Jr. of Waterford,
 
Donald T. Virts of Purcellville and Robert G. Virts of Waterford; one daughter, Jane McCall
 
of Waterford.  Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
 
Virts, Earl Edward, Sr. - Loudoun Times Mirror, July 24, 1980.  Earl Edward Virts, Sr.,
 
79, of Purcellville died July 16 at his residence.  A native of Loudoun, he was born
 
March 17, 1901 and was a son of Edward and Maggie Heskett Virts.  Survivors are
 
one son, Dr. Earl E. Virts, Jr., with whom he had made his home for the past several
 
years; four sisters, Mabel Virts of Hillsboro, Edith Potts of Purcellville, Rita Cooper of
 
Orlando, Fla., and Elaine Jolly of Norfolk, Va.; and two grandchildren, Earl E. Virts, III
 
of Norfolk and Linda Virts Hudgins of Jacksonville, Fla.  Interment was in Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
 
Virts, Edgar Hillary - Frederick Post, March 17, 1939.  Edgar Hillary Virts, 46 year-old
 
Brunswick municipal employee, was crushed to death beneath a gasoline-propelled
 
street roller that go beyond his control on Maple Avenue in Brunswick about 3:15 o’clock
 
on Monday afternoon.  Virts’ crushed body was removed from beneath the wrecked roller
 
sometime after the accident before the gaze of a large crowd that gathered.  The roller failed
 
to negotiate the turn and toppled over, pinning Virts beneath it.  His skull was fractured and
 
his body crushed.  Witness said the roller narrowly averted striking an automobile in it
 
uncontrolled flight.  Several physicians were summoned and pronounced the man dead.
 
  No inquest was deemed necessary.  Virts is survived by his wife Mrs. Blanche Coffman
 
Virts and three children, George L. Virts and Miss Ethel Virts, at home; and Mrs. Louis
 
F. Nalley, Brunswick.  Three brothers, Roy Virts, Frederick; Lloyd Virts, Lovettsville, and
 
Harold Virts, Jefferson, and two sisters Mrs. Pauline Green, and Miss Virginia Virts, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Virts, Edwin Spencer - Blue Ridge Herald, February 22, 1940.  Edwin Spencer Virts, son of the late
 
Abram and Florida Minor Virts, died at his home in Washington from a heart attack on Saturday,
 
February 17th.  Mr. Virts was born and raised in Waterford community.  He is survived by his wife,
 
Mrs. Nina Russell Virts, two daughters, Miss Mozelle Virts and Mrs. Marion Linden of Washington
 
and one brother Will Virts of Waterford.  Interment was in Union Cemetery, Leesburg.

Va., husband of the late Myrtle Riley Virts, died Monday, Oct. 3 at the Loudoun Memorial Hospital,
 
Leesburg, Va.  He was the son of the late Marion and Mary Elizabeth Leigh Virts.  He was a
 
member of St. James United Church of Christ in Lovettsville, Va.  He is survived by two
 
daughters; Miss Catherine Virts, at home and Mrs. Irene Coffman, Leesburg, Va.; three sons,
 
Ernest Virts, Paeonian Springs, Va., Leroy Virts, Frederick and Clifford Virts, Brunswick.

a former resident of Petersville died at the Frederick Memorial Hospital Thursday.  She was
 
a daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Barger Virts of Petersville.  She is survived by
 
one sister, Mrs. Emma Donovan of Brunswick, and one brother, William Virts of Swanton.

died Wednesday her home in Brunswick, age 83.  She is survived by a son I. E. Virts and a

Virts, Ella Virginia - Loudoun Times Mirror, April 24, 1941.  Mrs. Ella Virginia Virts died at
 
Frederick City Hospital on Saturday, April 19.  She had been in declining health for several
 
years but was not removed to the hospital until Friday.  She was a resident of the Lovettsville
 
community until several years ago when she purchased a home in Frederick.  Her parents
 
were the late Jacob and Virginia Boger.  She is survived by two sons, Keith B. Virts of New
 
York and Orion J. Virts of Brunswick, and the following half brothers and sisters:  Harry
 
Coates of Lovettsville, Mrs. Bessie Spalding of Point of Rocks, Lewis Coates of Pittsburgh,

Virts, Franklin - Bogard Dispatch, February 8, 1912.  Franklin A. Virts, who passed peacefully away
 
at his home in Bogard, Monday, February 5, 1912.  He had been suffering for about three weeks.
 
He was born in Loudoun County, Virginia, Feb. 14, 1830 and was aged 81 years, 11 months and
 
21 days.  He is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Taylor Virts.  This union produced thirteen children:

Virts, Frances - Frederick Post, Jan 21, 1964.  Miss Frances Evelyn Virts, 42, daughter of
 
Mrs. Bessie Dillow Forrest and the late Charles Clinton Virts, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital
 
on Thursday.  She was a resident of Petersville.  She is survived by a half-sister, Miss June Forrest
 
of Brunswick and two half-brothers, Leroy and Donald Forrest both of Frederick.  Interment was in
 
the Reformed Cemetery, Knoxville.
 
 
Virts, Franklin - F. A. Virts, 57, son of Ed and Elizabeth Virts, now deceased, passed away in a
 
Kansas hospital June 26, 1965.  Franklin Alexander Virts, was born in Bogard, Missouri.  On
 
June 20 he was badly burned in his apartment on his face and arms.  He had been smoking in a
 
big chair and was found at 6:30 a.m.  He was taken to the hospital and suffered a heart attack.
 
Survivors include, Sharon, a married daughter; brother, Jay Edmund, San Jose, California; and Sam,
 
Santa Clara, California; a sister, Mrs. Vern (Nedra) Gillett, Junction City, Oregon; a step-sister,
 
Mrs. E. C. (Morene Wood) McMillian, Oakland, California; a step-brother, Lowell Wood, West Minister,
 
California; step-mother, Mrs. Beulah Virts, Tucson, Arizona, three grandchildren; Mrs. Frank Ullom
 
and E. W. Reed, second cousins, Minneola; Mrs. Lone Redding of Parsons, a first cousin.

self-inflicted gun shot wounds at his home at Knoxville on Tuesday night, his death thought
 
due to despondency.  For twenty-six years he had been employed by the B & O Railroad in
 
the shops at Brunswick.  He was a son of George and Levia Roller Virts of Lovettsville, who
 
survive him together with his wife and a son and two daughters.  Sergeant Stanley Virts of
 
Fort Belvoir, Mrs. Emory Baker of Frederick, and Miss Kathleen Virts at home.  Also does he
 
leave two brothers and sisters, Lloyd Virts, Lovettsville, Roy Virts, Frederick, Mrs. Pauline
 
Green and Mrs. Virginia Nelson, Lovettsville.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.

Virts, Henry - Democratic Mirror, October 16, 1881.  Mr. Henry Virts, son, of Joseph Virts, deceased,
 
died September the 29th, 1861 aged 39 years one month and three days.  He left a wife and seven
 
children.  The writer of this knew him well and witnessed his dying moments, and though his pains
 
were excruciating during his illness he was never heard murmur, but was always cheerful, and
 
finally passed away without a struggle.

Virts, James Gilbert - Loudoun Times Mirror.  James Gilbert Virts, 58, of Lovettsville, died
 
Feb. 10 at Loudoun Hospital Center in Leesburg.  Born on July 4, 1932 in Lovettsville, he

died as result of an accident on or near Sunday, February 10.  He was born Jan. 8, 1922 in
 
Brunswick, the son of the late Roy M. and Annie Soper Virts.  He was a disabled veteran of
 
WW II.  He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Hoffman, Virginia, one sister, Mrs. Mildred
 
Himes, Knoxville; one brother Earl Virts, Brunswick.  Interment was in the Reformed Cemetery, Knoxville.
 
 
 
Virts, James W. A. - Loudoun Times Mirror, March 26, 1925.  Mr. James W. A. Virts whose
 
home is at Hillsboro, Va., died Tuesday of this week after an illness of several months.  He
 
was in the 72nd year of his age and until recently had been an active farmer in his neighborhood,
 
where he has spent the greater part of his life.  He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church
 
, South and a well know and highly esteemed resident of his community.  Though unable to be up
 
and around his home, he bore his long illness in patience and received his friends in his usual
 
courteous manner.  His wife who before marriage was a Miss Clendening, died June of last year.
 
  He survived by six daughters, Misses Elizabeth and Virginia Virts of Hillsboro; Misses Nettie
 
and Sarah Virts of Washington; Mrs. Rebecca Richardson and Mrs. Ruth Young, also of
 
Washington.  Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

a daughter of Mrs. Rose Speaks Hackley and of the late Robert Hackley.  Surviving with her

born near Lovettsville and spent his youth in the community moving to Washington about 25
 
years ago.  He was the son of the late George Virts and Mrs. Virginia Orme Virts.  His wife,
 
the late Hazel Elsie Ball Virts, died seven months ago.  He is survived by two children, George
 
Virts and Mrs. Ann Virginia Witt, both of Washington, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Osborne and Mrs.

Virts, Joseph T. - Source Unknown.  Joseph T. Virts, son of G. W. and Sarah Painter Virts,
 
was born June 3, 1872 in Loudoun County, Virginia, and departed this life Feb. 7, 1945,
 
aged 72 years, 8 months, and 4 days at White Cross Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.  He was
 
united in marriage to Olevia Orrison of Virginia, Feb. 21, 1895.  He is survived by his wife,
 
Olevia, sons, Leonard T. Virts of Nation Chapel, and George H. Virts of Pitchin.  Three
 
grandchildren, Mrs. Warder Poland of Catawba, Ohio, George, Jr. and Mary Ann Virts of Pitchin.
 
One granddaughter Clara Virginia Virts, having preceded him in death.  Two great-granddaughters
 
Betty Louise and Wanda Ruth Poland of Catawba, Ohio.  Two brothers, C. W. Virts of Catawba,
 
Ohio and E. J. Virts of Hillsboro, Va.  One brother William having preceded him in death.  Two
 
sisters Delilah Swope of Knoxville, Maryland and Mrs. Jennie Vickers of Virginia  He resided
 
in Virginia until the year 1899 when he with his family moved to Ohio.  Residing for a number
 
of years near Catawba.  After which they moved to the present community where he resided
 
until his death.  He was a farmer all of his life.

a former school teacher, died at the home of a niece in Martinsburg on September 20.  She was
 
the wife of the late John Henry Virts, a Leesburg mail carrier.  A teacher for many years in Virginia,
 
Maryland, and West Virginia.  She is survived by one sister.  Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Leon of Silver Spring, Md. and Aubrey Lee of Hamilton.  Three sisters, Mrs. Flossie Ridgeway
 
and Mrs. Kinnie Boger, both of Lovettsville and Mrs. Katie Smith of Arlington, and two brothers,
 
Willard Smith of Frederick, Md. and Raymond Smith of Lovettsville.  Interment was in the

W.Va., formerly of Lovettsville, Va., died Friday, Aug. 14, in Charles Town.  He was the husband of
 
the late Jesse Virts.  Born in Lovettsville and was the son of Elbert F. and Myrtle Riley Virts.  He was
 
employed as a laborer in the construction industry.  Survivors include five daughters, Carolyn A. Cook
 
of Brunswick, Susan Spencer of Haymarket, Va., and Anita Wiles, Marlene Virts and Linda Virts, all
 
of Harpers Ferry W.Va.; three sons, Marvin Virts of Lovettsville, Va., Roy Lee Virts of Baltimore and

Lovettsville nearly his entire life, died Friday, October 23 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was
 
the husband of Lillie Hackley Virts, who died in 1973.  Born April 24, 1920 at Lovettsville, he was
 
a son of the late Oscar and Mary Virts.  Surviving are a foster son, Joseph W. Jenkins of Lovettsville;
 
two brothers, Theodore Virts and Russell Virts, both of Lovettsville; two sisters, Jessie Frye of
 
Lovettsville, and Goldie Stone of Leesburg, Va.  Mr. Virts was preceded in death by a brother,
 
Raymond Virts.  Interment was in the Mt. Olivet Methodist Cemetery, Lovettsville.

who had operated a blacksmith’s shop there for many years, died March 2 at his daughter’s home
 
in Lovettsville.  Born Aug. 10, 1897, he was a son of George W. and Olivia Roler Virts.  Surviving
 
are his wife, Elizabeth B. Virts,  one son, Wilmuth R. of Brunswick, Md.; one daughter, Catherine

John W. Virts, died Sunday night at the home of her daughter Mrs. Esther V. Costello in
 
Waterford.  Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William Frederick Hickman
 
and Louisa Schultheis Hickman.  She had been a resident of Loudoun county for 50 years.
 
Her husband died in 1938.  Besides her daughter, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Frank
 
Pullen of Halethorpe, Md.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Leesburg.
 
 
 
Virts, Lula May - Blue Ridge Herald, October 1, 1942.  Mrs. Lula May Vincell, aged 70, widow
 
of the late Clayton Virts, died at the home of her son, Lloyd Virts, at Swarthmore, Pa.,
 
September 21 from a heart ailment from which she had suffered several years.  She was
 
a daughter of the late Luther H. and Nettie Virts Vincelle of near Lovettsville.  Beside her
 
son, Lloyd, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Helen Brady of Washington; two sons,
 
Roger of Pittsburgh and Louis of Purcellville; and a half sister Mrs. Lena Baldwin of Clarendon.

Virts, Mabel Jane - Loudoun Times Mirror, November 6, 1991. Mabel Jane Virts, 92, of Leesburg,
 
died at the Loudoun Hospital Center Nov. 2.  She had lived in Hillsboro for more than 50 years. 
 
She was born in Loudoun County, June 23, 1899 and was the daughter of Jonathan Edward Virts
 
and Margaret Heskett.  She is survived by sisters, Edith V. Potts, Purcellville, Rita C. Leach,
 
Orlando, Fla. and Elaine V. Jolly, Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews, Earl Virts, M.D., Purcellville and
 
Earl Potts, Orlando, Fla.; nieces, Eileen P. Humphrey, Round Hill, Melba P. Humphrey, Purcellville
 
and Dorothy P. Titus, Leesburg.  Her brother, Earl Virts predeceased her.  Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
 
Virts, Marshall L. - Marshall L. Virts, of Point of Rocks, died Thursday, February 21 at
 
9 o’clock a.m. at the Maryland University Hospital, Baltimore, after an illness of eight days
 
of colitis of the bowels.  He was fifty years, nine months and 9 days.  Beside his widow,
 
Mrs. Della O. Virts, he is survived by one son and one daughter, Walter J. Virts and Mrs.
 
Noah W. Money, both at home.  The funeral of Marshall L. Virts took place from St. Luke’s
 
Lutheran Church, Point of Rocks, Sunday.  Services were conducted by Rev. P. J .Wade.
 
The pallbearers were G. Frank Brown, E.. L. Talbott, C. R. Barnhouse, John Wright, George
 
Lowery and Creighton Conner.  Burial was made in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.  M. R. Etchinson, funeral director.

Loudoun woman, died Friday at her home in Washington.  Mrs. Virts was born in Round Hill
 
but established residence in Washington as a young woman where she engaged in the dress
 
making business.  Prior to the World War, she operated one of the largest dressmaking
 
establishments in Washington.  Among her many patrons were ladies of the congressional
 
and diplomatic sets.  She retired in the early 20’s.  Surviving are three sisters, Miss Janet
 
Gaynor of Washington; Mrs. Effie Deck, also of Washington and Mrs. Iren Hohenstein,
 
of Boston, Ma.  Interment was in Edegrove Cemetery near Hillsboro.

near Oatlands, Va., on Thursday 15th of March after a short illness of 6 days, 15 years of age.

W.Va.  Mr. Virts was born Nov. 17, 1910 in Lovettsville and was the son of the late Oscar Franklin
 
Virts and Mary Catherine Mann Virts.  He is survived by his wife Mary M. Virts and a son Gary E.
 
Virts of Centerville, Va., two sisters, Jessie Fyre and Goldie Stone and three brothers, Theodore,
 
Russell and Lester Virts, all of Lovettsville.  He is survived by three grandchildren, Brian, Sarah

resident of Lovettsville and a retired trackman for the B&O Railroad, died Jan. 12 at his home in
 
Brunswick, Md.  He was 67.  Mr. Virts was a member of the First Church of God of Knoxville, Md.,
 
of the Eagles of Brunswick, and of the B&O Veterans.  He was born in Pennsylvania and was a
 
son of the late R. Ira Tilman and Rebba Derry Virts.  Mr. Virts’ wife was the late Mary C. Wenner Virts.
 
Survivors include a son, Charles R. Virts; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Talton; two sisters, Mrs. Panys
 
Mitter of Highland Park, Mich., and Mrs. Florence Frye of Lovettsville, and half-sister, Mrs. Margueritte

Virts, Richard T. - Loudoun Times Mirror.  Richard T. Virts, 23, a former Round Hill resident,
 
died May 27, while working at his hob near Covington, Va.  The Allegheny County Medical
 
Examiner attributed death to accidental drowning.  Mrs. Virts was born in Leesburg, a son
 
of Chester Willard Virts, Sr. and Viola Kidwell Virts.  In addition to his parents, survivors
 
include two brothers, Donald E. Virts and Chester W. Virts, Jr., both of Round Hill; and five
 
sisters, Mrs. Patsy Ann Mellott of Middleway, W.Va., Mrs. Shirley Rougemer, of Lovettsville,

Lovettsville, Va., died there Tuesday, Jan. 31.  He was the husband of the late Ada Riley Virts.
 
Mr. Virts was born May 20, 1902, a son of Oscar Franklin and Mary Catherine Mann Virts.
 
He was a self-employed carpenter and painter.  For many years, Mr. Virts maintained the
 
Mt. Olivet Methodist Cemetery and dug graves in that cemetery.  Mrs. Virts is survived by
 
a daughter, Althea Swartz of Lovettsville; two sisters, Jessie Frye of Lovettsville and Goldie
 
Stone of Leesburg, Va.; a brother Theodore Virts of Lovettsville; three grandsons, William
 
Swartz and James Swartz of Lovettsville; and Russell Swartz of Herndon, Va.; two
 
great-grandchildren, Paul Swartz and Katherine Swartz; and a great-great-grandson,
 
Anthony Swartz.  Mr. Virts was preceded in death by a sister Lilly Gosnell; and two
 
brothers, Raymond and Lester Virts.  Interment was a the Mr. Olivet Methodist Cemetery, Lovettsville.

Va. on Tuesday morning of last week after a lingering illness.  Mrs. Virts was ninety-one
 
years of age and her death was due to infirmities of age.  She had spent her entire life in
 
Loudoun county.  She leaves besides her daughter, Mrs. Nisewarner, two sons John R.
 
Virts of Maryland and George W. Virts of Lovettsville.  Interment was at Mt. Olive Methodist

Decatur, Illinois.  She was the wife of the late F. A. Virts and this union produced thirteen

of near Lovettsville, Va., died August 28, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Roanoke, Va.,
 
after an immediate illness of four weeks, aged 57 years.  He was a son of the late Mr. and
 
Mrs. Marion Virts, of Lovettsville.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Anderson Virts,
 
and six children, Eugene Virts, M.P. in Austria; Chester, Gilbert, Evelyn, Shirley and Susie,

retired postal clerk at Purcellville, died Oct. 20 in the home of her sister, Mrs. Alva Virts Boteler
 
in Borrmall, Pa.  She had been ill for several years.  Miss Virts, a member of Bethany Methodist
 
Church at Purcellville, was a daughter of James and Alverta Clendiening Virts, families well known
 
in the Hillsboro community.  She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Boteler, with whom she was living
 
at time of her death, and a nephew, Jack Boteler, of Fairfax.  Interment was in the family plot in
 
Hillsboro Cemetery.
 
 
Virts, Watson - W. R. Virts, 89, died Friday, December 6 at his home in Carrollton.  Watson
 
Raymond Virts, son of Franklin and Sarah Jane Taylor Virts was born January 24, 1879 in Carroll
 
County where he spent most of his life.  He is survived by his wife, Pearl Buzard Virts.  He was
 
preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and seven brothers.  Interment was in Mt.

Wire, a son Robert of Hyattsville, Md., a sister, Mrs. Richard Hickman, a brother, George Wire,
 
both of Lovettsville, and three grandchildren, Susan, Janice and Donna Wire, all of Hyattsville, Md.  I
 
nterment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
 
 
 
Wire, Columbia - Loudoun Times Mirror, April 7, 1983.  Columbia Johnson Wire, 89, a life-long
 
resident of Lovettsville died March 24 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  Born in Lovetsville Aug. 15, 1893,
 
she was a daughter of Robert Gary and Ella George Johnson.  Mrs. Wire taught in Loudoun public
 
schools in the 1920;s, later teaching in Roanoke and returning to Loudoun in the 1950’s to teach
 
at Lucketts and Lovettsville.  Her husband, Charles l. Wire, died in 1953.  Surviving are one son,
 
Robert L. Wire of Ellicott City, Md.; one sister, Esther Johnson of Lovettsville, with whom she
 
made her home.  Interment was in the Union Cemetery, Lovettsville.
