There is not much you can do, except run a search for your surname of interest, and then keep in mind the various spellings.

Feel free to send your like notes to include--notes that, because of brevity or such, are not suitable for the Archives. Of course, we are speaking of notes from original records or from copies of them, not from published resources.

We will try this for awhile and see if others can add to it. Just my own research in Charlotte has not been broad enough to be of interest to the public as a whole. Thanks. Let me hear from you on this. JoLee Spears

Re LIGGON VAUGHAN: This name seemed familiar to me and when I saw
record of remarriage of his wid., I can't place him with the
Abraham Vaughan line of Charlotte, and can't find the name in the
Vaughan Newsletter.

Have not been able to identify any children of ASHLEY & JANE
(GREGORY) VAUGHAN, for Gregory genealogy (OR siblings of Ashley
Vaughan).

Wonder how Ashley Vaughan fit with other Vaughan's of the area in
VA.  His father could have been in Charlotte, Mecklenburg or
Lunenburg.

Ashley Vaughan's name appears in a "Yates & Knight's Shop Book" -
1822.
     Blacksmith business located on the S. Meherrin R. (div. line
bet. Mecklenburg & Lunenburg Counties, Va.,) where "Yatesville" &
"Mill Grove" were on the old maps.  VAUGHAN accts. were: Ashley;
Willis; and Pleasant.  Note: The will of David Vaughan 8-22-1825;
10-10-1825 [Bell, Lunenburg Co. Wills #497] names sons: Willis
Vaughan, Baalam Vaughan, Pleasant Vaughan, Robert Vaughan, James
Vaughan; daus: Mary Perkins, Elizabeth Elmore [recorded will
shows Elizabeth Clark.  Lunenburg Land Tax Records show David

I am trying to sort out some of the early Vaughan families in the
Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, Halifax & Charlotte Counties, Va. area. 
I have observed the Coleman A. Vaughan of Williamson & Rutherford
Cos., Tenn. and supposed he was the same as the following married
in Lunenburg Co., Va. and appeared on the 1820 Census of
Charlotte Co.  I have no further information, but would be
interested in knowing if you have learned anything further re his
parents.

It appears there were a number of families migrating to
Williamson and area 1810-1830, from the Charlotte Co., Va. area. 
Among some who seemed allied were Stokes, Haynes, Tatums, &
Redmans.

A Vaughan, whose parents I cannot identify, married in Charlotte
Co., Va.:
20 Apr. 1807.  Ashley Vaughan m. Jane Gregory, d/o Joseph
Gregory; sur: Hezekiah McCargo; m. 12 Apr. by David McCargo.
        Ashley appeared 1810 Cen. Charlotte Co., Va.; 1820 Mecklenburg

        Edward Gregory; 1840 Davidson Co., Tenn. Jane Gregory was of
        my Gregory line.

                                               CHARLOTTE CO., VA.

"On the 6th day of April 1830 personally appeared in open Court
... William Vaughan aged about eighty years who ... doth on his
oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the
provision made by the Acts of Congress the 18th March 1818 and
May 1820.
   "That [he] enlisted for the term of two years on the 5th
February 1776 under the command of Capn. John Brent whose Company
belonged to the 4th Regiment Commanded by Colo. Isaac Read of the
Virginia line and afterward by Colo. Robert Lawson on the
Continental Establishment that he continued in the service of the
United States till the 5th of February 1778 when he was
discharged at Valley Forge in the State of Pennsylvania by Genl.
Charles Scott who signed his discharge which he kept until a few
years past which is now lost.  That he has now no other evidence
of his services than the affidavits of Loyd Portwood and Joseph
Hailey hereunto annexed that he marched first from Charlotte to
Suffolk in Virginia from thence to Portsmouth from thence by
water to the head of Elk in Maryland.  That he served most of his
time in the Light Infantry.  He was in skirmish first with the
enemy at a place called Quibble Town in that State of New Jersey
and his Company was then under the command of Colo. Charles Scott
afterwards Genl. Scott.  He was in the action at Brandy-Wine; He
thinks his company was then under the command of Major Dark; He
was in the action at German Town, he thinks his company was under
the command of Genl. Robert Lawson in that engagement.  He
recollects that Genls. Stephens and Lawson commanded Brigades."
