In the World War 1917-1918-1919, Buffalo County, Nebraska

1. Carl S. Madsen, 3rd Storekeeper, Son of C. F. Madsen, Elmcreek, Neb.
Entered the service at Denver, Colo., Dec. 15, 1917; trained at U. S. N. Training Station, San Francisco, for duty in the Regular Navy; assigned to U. S. S. Mugford, Destroyer 105, in Pacific, Panama Canal Zone and Atlantic service. Discharged at New York City, January 13, 1919.

2. Paul Haase, Son of the late Mrs. Louise Haase, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Grand Island, Neb., in May 1917, given advanced training in electrical work at Mare Island, Calif., and transferred in May, 1918 to a Naval Base at Queenstown, Ireland, later to Dublin.

3. Fred A. Johnson, Seaman, Son of Peter Johnson, Elmcreek, Neb.
Entered the service at Denver, Colo., August 6, 1917, and trained at Mare Island, Calif., for service in the U. S. Navy. At present resides at 167 Sand St., Brooklyn, N. Y.

4. Leonard Arthur Denison, Seaman, Son of L. A. Denison, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Denver, Colo., June 4, 1918, and received training at San Francisco Naval Training Station at Goat Island. Later with the Supply Dept. U, S. Naval Station at Cavite, Philippine Islands. Now in Kearney.

5. J. M. Kilgore, Seaman, Son of Mrs. Ella Kilgore, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Denver, Colo., June 20, 1918, and trained at San Pedro, and Hampton Roads, later seeing service on the U. S. S. South Dakota till the close of the war. Released from service January 20, 1919.

6. Private Henry Cecil Lowell, Son of Levi Lowell, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., July 3, 1918; trained at Great Lakes Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill., for duty as an aviator in Co. 8, 15th Regulars. Released at Great Lakes, February 15, 1919.

7. Dewey E. Holliday, Seaman, Son of Sterling Holliday, Miller, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., May 24, 1918; trained at Great Lakes Training Station, for duty in the Aviation Service. Quartered at an Aviation Base in Queenstown, Ireland. Released from active service January 10, 1919.

8. Murl C. Ashbaugh, Seaman, Son of Mrs. H. P. Ashbaugh, Elmcreek, Neb.
Entered the U. S. Naval Service by enlistment and was trained at Great Lakes Training Station, Great Lakes, Ill., later seeing service as water tender on the U. S. Transport Montana.

1. Second Lieutenant Roy F. Walker,    Son of Mrs. A. Walker, Kearney. Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney in September, 1917, trained at Camp Funston, sailing for France in June, 1918. Saw service with Co. F 355th Infantry 89th Division in the St. Mihiel and other important engagements, returning July. 1919.
2. Ray A. Walker,    Son of Mrs. A. Walker Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Fort Logan, Colo., in October, 1917, crossed to France in March 1918, sent back as an instructor in July 1918. Sent to Camp Humphrey, then Ft. Benjamin Harrison, receiving discharge Dec. 4, 1918.
3. Robert J. Wallace,    Son of J. Wallace, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service on October 19, 1918 at the Kearney State Normal as a member of the S. A. T. C., where he was kept in training until after the armistice was signed, receiving his discharge December 10, 1918.
4. Wilsey E. Oakley,    Hazard, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., July 21, 1918; trained at Camp Dodge, Iowa, Jacksonville, Fla., and Camp Merrit, sailing on November 2, 1918 for France, and still on duty at Tours, France.
5. Guy A. Fuller,    Son of John B. Fuller, Kearney, Neb.
Enlisted in July in the 6th Regular Band at Camp Cody. One year at Camp Dix, sailing for France in October 1918. Still in France with 9th Infantry Band.
6. John B. Fuller, Jr. ,    Son of John B. Fuller, Kearney, Neb.
Enlisted in June 1917 with the 4th Regular Band and spent a year in training, sailing for France in October 1918 with the 127th F. A. seeing service in France and receiving his discharge February 14, 1919.
7. Private William Dale Fleming,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 27, 1918, and trained at Camp Dodge, Ia., De Souge, France, for duty with Battery F 338th F. A., 88th Division. Served with the A. E. F. in France. Discharged Jan. 17, 1919.
8. Harvey J. Harman,    Son of J. E. Harman, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., in May, 1917, and trained at Camp Ashland and Camp Cody for duty with the Supply Co. 108, 28th (Keystone Division). Saw service in the Argonne region, receiving his discharge in May, 1919.

Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., August 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty with 28th M. G. B. N., 10th Division. Received his discharge papers on February 28, 1919. Farming near Kearney.
2. Private Claude R. Mercer,    Son of Chalk Mercer, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Sidney, Neb., Oct. 14, 1917, and was trained at Vancouver, Wash., and Camp Greene. N. C., for duty with Co. D. Engineers, 4th Division. Saw service at Vesle River, St. Mihiel and Argonne offensives and Army of Occupation.
3. Private Donald Firkins,    Son of G. A. Firkins, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Ft. Logan, Colo., Dec. 14, 1917, and trained at Ft. Scott and Camp Eustis, for duty with Bat. B. 45th Art., C. A. C. Discharged February 19, 1919.
4. Private Fred J. Schmeeckle,    Son of Christ Schmeeckle, Eustis, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., April 30, 1918, and was trained at Camp Funston and Camp Mills, for duty as observer and sniper, in Co. K. 355Ih Infantry, 89th Division. Saw service in St. Mihiel and Argonne-Meuse drives. Discharged March 18, 1919.
5. Corporal Clarence Foster,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service through Co. L. 5th Neb., N. G., serving on the Mexican border. Later in training at Camp Cody, for Overseas duty in the American Expeditionary Forces in France. Received his discharge during the summer of 1919.
6. Captain Lynn J. Butcher,    Son at S. D. Butcher, Broken Bow, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., July 14, 1904, serving through four enlistments in Co. A. (later Co. L., 5th Neb.), and being promoted from private to captain during that time, and serving on the Mexican Border. Called into service again, January 15, 1917, and served during the war in the Training Corps; also seeing service as photographer with an Aero Squadron, and received his discharge Feb. 12, 1919.
7. Private James J. Burritt,    Son of George Burritt, Elmcreek, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 27, 1918, and trained at Camp Dodge, for duty with Hdq. Co., 339th Field Artillery, 88th Division. Discharged February 12, 1919.
8. Private Thomas Abdo,    Son of E. Abdo, Aguilan, Colo.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., and trained at Camp Grant, for duty with Medical Corps, Co. B. 161st D. B. Received his discharge January 25, 1919.

Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 2, 1918 and was trained at Ft. Logan, Camp Fremont, Camp Mills and Camp Lee, for duty with Ammunition Train, Co. A. 8th Division. Discharged at Camp Dodge, February 12, 1919.
2. Private Harry A. Shoemaker,    Son of Mrs. Sarah Shoemaker, Elmcreek, Neb.
Entered the service at Ft. Riley, Kansas, June 24, 1918, and trained for duty with the Medical Department. Saw service in the Meuse-Argonne and Champagne offensives with Hospital Train. Discharged July 3, 1919.
3. Private Carl E. Swartz,    Son of Chas. and Emma Swartz, Sweden
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., and trained at Camp Funston, Kansas, for duty with Co. F. 58th Infantry, 4th Division. Saw duty on the French fronts with his division, and returned to this country for demobilization.
4. Second Lieutenant Adolf V. Hlava,    Son of Albert V. Hlava, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., September 17, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston, Camp Lee and Camp Humphrey, for duty with Hdq. Co. Engineers. Received his discharge papers January 6, 1919.
5. Private Richard Reeh,    Son of Claus Reeh, Amherst, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., March 4, 1918, and trained at Ft. Riley and Camp Wadsworth for duty with the Medical Corps. Amb. Co. 40, 6th Division. Saw service in the Meuse-Argonne. Discharged June 26, 1919.
6. Private William Hlava,    Son of Anton Hlava, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., and trained at Fort Logan. Ft. Riley, and Camp Bowie, for duty with the Medical Department of the U. S. Army.
7. Lieutenant Hugh H. Drake,    Son of R. P. Drake, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service June 27, 1916, and trained at Ft. Crook, Ft. Snelllng and Camp Funston, for duty with the 41st infantry, l0th Division. Received his discharge papers on July 10, 1919.
8. Private R. O. Abrahamson,    Son of Mrs. Ida Abrahamson, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 2, 1918, and was trained at Camp Fremont, for duty in Co. A. Ammunition Train, 8th Division. Received his discharge papers February 1, 1919. Resides at Kearney, Nebraska.

Entered the service at Kearney, and was trained at Camp Dodge and Fort Sheridan, for service in Co. D, 1st Infantry now Medical Corps. Present Address, Fort Sheridan, Ill.
2. Corporal Elzey Collins,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston for service with Co. A 341st Infantry, 89th Division in France, in the hospital three weeks and returned from overseas sometime in April, 1919.
3. Second Lieutenant Anders W. Nelson,    Son of Andrew Nelson, Kearney, Neb,
Entered the service in Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston and Camp Hancock, for duty 17th Co. 164th Depot Brigade, 18th Co. C. M. G. O. T. S.; placed in reserve November 26, 1918.
4. Theodore A. Bolte,    Son of Theodore H. Bolte, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Ft. Crook, May 15, 1917, and trained at Camp Cody for service with M. G. Bat. 110th Inf. 28th Division. Saw service in St. Mihiel sector near Metz with his Division.
5. Sergeant Robert LeRoy Cruit,    Son of Robert F. Cruit, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Lincoln, Neb., June 15, 1917, training at Camp Cody for service with the 34th Division. Saw service in France with the 109th Motor Supply Train at St. Nazaire, France.
6. Private Thomas John Quail,    Son of Mrs. Elizabeth Quail, Miller, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 4, 1918, training at Camp Grant, Camp Hancock and Camp Johnson, for service with a Machine Gun Co. Replacement Troops. Received his discharge January 9, 1919.
7. Corporal George A. Otto,    Son of David Otto, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., and was trained et Camp Dodge, Ia., for service with Co. C. 313th Engineers, 88th Division, seeing service in the Metz region, and with the Army of Occupation.
8. Private Willard C. Moore,    Son of W. J. Moore, Kearney, Neb,
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., March 4, 1918, and trained at Fort Riley in the Medical Department of 30th Infantry, seeing service on Marne, Chateau-Thierry, Vesle, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne fronts. Discharged April 24,'19.
