In the World War 1917-1918-1919, Buffalo County, Nebraska

1. Sergeant Norris Darbyshire, Son of Mrs. Flora Darbyshire, Scottsbluff, Neb.
Entered the service at Torrington, Wyo., May 10, 1918, and trained at Camp Fremont, for duty in the 62d Infantry. Sent to Vladivostok, Siberia, and transferred to the railway service as a locomotive engineer on the Siberian railroad. Was the first American to operate an engine over that road.

2. Jack Tolle, Son of Mrs. J. B. Frank, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Goldfield, Nevada, June 6, 1917, and trained for duty in Co. F, 4th Engineers. Saw service in the the [sic] Argonne region; gassed.

3. Private Gyron L. Shreve, Son of W. D. Shreve, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at St. Joe, Mo., and trained with marine corps, later transferred to the aviation service, 400th Aero Squadron. Saw service in France. Discharged Sept. 9, 1919.

4. Carl C. Shreve, Son of A. D. Shreve, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kemmerer, Wyoming, and trained at Fort Russell, for duty with the Rainbow Division. Wounded July 26, 1918, and although the Red Cross has searched for information regarding his whereabouts, none was obtained. [See here for further information]

5. Private Sidney M. Gerow, Son of Mrs. T. B. Gerow, Omaha, Neb.
Entered the service at Waterloo, Ia., Aug. 29, 1918, and was trained at Camp Funston, for duty in Battery A, 29th Infantry, 10th Division. Discharged January 17, 1919. Resides on a homestead, near Recluse, Wyoming.

6. Private Roy Green, Son of A. Green, Overton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., April 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty in the 89th Division. Received his discharge December 9, 1918.

7. Private Robert F. Howard, Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., March 17, 1918, and trained at Ft. Benjamin Harris, for duty with Transportation Corps of 87th Division. Saw service in the Marne sector, in railway operation, from November, 1918, to June, 1919. Discharged July 5, 1919.

8. Lieutenant Glenn E. Miller, Son of O. L. Miller, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Ft. Snelling, and received training at that point in the Officers' Training School, for duty with Co. E, 142d Infantry, 36th Division. In Meuse-Argonne offensive. Awarded Croix-de-Guerre. Returning in May, 1919.

1. Frederick Harry Small, Storekeeper Third Class,    Son of H. A. Small, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service August 12, 1918, and trained at Goat Island, San Francisco, Calif., transferred to New York, and later on the Transport Paysanda. Received his discharge during the summer of 1919.
2. Ora H. Wright, Electrician,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., May 6, 1917, and was trained at Mare Island, Calif., for duty in the U. S. Navy. Saw ten months active service in English and foreign waters, returning to New Orleans, January 31, 1919.
3. Louis W. Barry,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service June 15, 1918, and trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Station and Hampton Roads, for duty in the U. S. Navy. Released in February 1919, and is subject to recall at any time.
4. Lawrence P. Bidwell,    Son of Wm. Bidwell, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the the [sic] service June 20, 1918, as third class carpenter's mate; at Great Lakes held petty officers rating. Saw service in France, and promoted to second class machinists mate, at Brest, France, working in the navy garage.
5. Corporal Floyd Murray,    Son of Will Murray, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 27, 1918, and was trained at Camp Dodge, Ia., and De Souge, France, for duty with the 338th F. A., Hdq. Co., 88th Division. Received his discharge January 16, 1919.
6. George W. Hawley, Bugler,    Son of S. E. Hawley, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service May 5, 1917, and called to the Naval Training Camp at Chicago, August 17, 1917. Transferred to U. S. S. South Carolina and is now Bugler on that ship.
7. Clive E. Heckenlively, Fireman First Class.    Son of I. W. Heckenlively, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at El Paso, Tex., December 6, 1917, and trained at Yenba Buena Island and Mare Island, for duty in the U. S. Navy. Saw six months active service in the Atlantic Fleet. Discharged January 22, 1919.
8. Clair Weston Hill, Machinist Mate First Class,    Son of W. H. Hill, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., May 20, 1918, and was trained at Great Lakes and Pelham Bay, for duty in Naval Aviation in Co. H, 15th Regiment. Released from active service, December 21, 1918.

Entered the service at San Diego, Calif., June 3, 1917, and trained at San Pedro, and San Diego for duty in the U. S. Navy. Discharged in March, 1919, And resides at Atkinson, Nebraska.
2. Ernest Chapman, Cook,   Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty as cook in 355th Infantry, 89th Division. Saw service in France and Germany with his division, returning for demobilization in June, 1919.
3. Private Archie M. Cosner,    Son of A. M. Cosner, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Grand Island, Neb., December 28, 1917, and trained at Kelly Field, Texas, for duty in the 372d Aero Squadron. Discharged May 22, 1919.
4. Private John A. Danner,    Son of C. A. Danner, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., in March, 1916, for duty on the Mexican border. Joined the 127th Field Artillery seeing service in France during the World War. Discharged in January, 1919.
5. Donald F. Payne,    Son of George Payne, Loomis, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Feb. 26, 1919, and trained at Camp Wadsworth, S. C., for duty in Hdq. Co., F. S. Bn. Discharged July 5, 1919. Resides near Elmcreek.
6.Arlington J. Parks,    Son of John F. Parks, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., June 24, 1918, but was discharged a short time after entering the army.
7. Frank J. Kirschner,    Son of Robert Kirschner, Pleasanton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 4, 1918, and was trained at Camp Riley, Kansas, for duty in the Medical Corps, U. S. Army. Discharged December 28, 1918.
8. Geo. P. Kite, Quartermaster 2nd-Class,    Son of A. L. Kite, Barleyton, Tenn.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., July 5, 1918, and was trained at Charleston, S. C., and Hampton Roads, Va., for duty in the Aviation Quartermaster Department. Discharged February 10, 1919.

Entered the service in June, 1917, and trained at Camp Cody, N. M., for duty with the 109th Engineers. Saw service in France, and received his discharge during the summer of 1919.
2. C. Prentice Scott,    Son of F. C. Scott, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Oct. 3, 1917, and was trained at Camp Funston and Camp Mills, for duty with Hdq. Co., 355th Infantry, 89th Division. Saw service at St. Mihiel, and in Meuse-Argonne offensives, later in Army of Occupation. Discharged June 1, 1919.
3. Sergeant Thomas Batman Earley,    Son of Mrs. Louise A. Earley, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service in August, 1917, and trained at Camp Meade, for duty with Co. B, 79th Division. Saw service at Montfaucon, Troyon, and in the Meuse offensives.
4. Captain Brian O'Brian,    Son of Mrs. Mary E. O'Brian, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Fort Snelling, in April, 1917, and was trained at that point and later at Fort Sill, for duty with Battery F, 339th F. A., 88th Division. Now resides at Lincoln, Neb., Instructor of military training at Neb. State Uni.
5. Lieutenant Ralph Angus Steadman,    Son of Joseph Steadman, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service April 6, 1917, as member of the U. S. Cavalry. Transferred to 10th F. A., 3d Division. Saw service at Chateau-Thierry, Marne, St. Mihiel, Argonne, and Stenay. Later with Army of Occupation.
6. Milton H. Frank,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., in May, 1917, and was trained at Ft. Logan and Camp Kearney, for duty with the Expeditionary Forces in France.
7. Ralph B. Frank,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service in May, 1918, and trained at Ft. Logan, Ft. Douglas, Camp Funston, and Camp Sheridan, for duty in Co. K, 20th Infantry.
8. Earle A. Wright,   Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty in Co. B, 355th Infantry, 3d Division. In action at Hill 204, Belleau Wood, Chateau Thierry, St. Mihiel, and Argonne-Meuse offensive. Later with Army of Occupation on the Rhine.

Entered the service at Lincoln, Neb., June 20, 1917, and trained for duty in Medical Dept., 6th Neb., transferred to 109th Infantry, Co. A, 28th Division, for foreign service. Was in the battle of Chateau-Thierry, being gassed. Discharged December 23, 1918. Farming near Ravenna, Neb.
2. Elmer Walter Wermuth,    Son of Mrs. Emma L. Wermuth, Cazenovia, N. Y.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 5, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty with Co. B, 341st Infantry, 89th Division. Resides at Omaha, Nebraska.
3. Private Barney Bales,    Son of W. S. Bales, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Alliance, Neb., April 30, 1917. Enlisted in Co. E, 4th Neb., N. N. G., transferred to 121st Field Artillery. Was in France twelve months, discharged May 19, 1919.
4. S. E. Bailey,   Kearney, Nebraska.
Unable to gain any information as to military record.
5. DeGene Eddy,    Son of William Eddy, Randolph, Vt.
Entered the service with Co. L., 4th Neb., N. N. G., and trained at Ashland, Neb., and Camp Cody, N. M., for duty with the 127th Field Artillery, for service in France. He received his discharge January 23, 1919.
6. Walter Arthur Dunker,    Son of Henry J. Dunker, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., April 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty with Co. K, 355th Infantry, 89th Division. Saw service at St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne offensives, also Army of Occupation. Discharged June 3, 1919. Resides at Gibbon, Nebraska.
7. George Bayes,    Son of John Bayes, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Grand Island, July 18, 1918 and was trained for duty with Battery A, Artillery, 45th Division. Discharged in February, 1919, and resides at Ravenna, Neb.
8. Corporal Leonard E. Finder,    Son of R. Finder, Ravenna, Neb.
Entered the service at Grand Island, Neb., April 10, 1918, and trained for duty with Co. E, 6th Engineers. Saw service for fifteen months in France. Construction work. Discharged September 31, 1919.
