Maryland Family History Centers

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints maintains probably the world's most impressive collection of genealogical information and material at their main Salt Lake City, Utah library. In order to make some of this material more available, they maintain Family History Centers at selected church sites around the nation. Researchers can access most of the microfilms and microfiche that are in the main Family History Library. One does not have to be a member of the LDS church to use the FHC resources.

The Maryland State Archives has birth records for the 23 counties from 1898 - 1978 (1875 - 1978 for Baltimore City), death records for the 23 counties from 1898 - 1987 (1875 - 1987 for Baltimore City), and marriage records for most jurisdictions prior to 1914. Fees vary depending upon the request, see Fee Schedule and Shipping Information for details. There are no death certificates before 1875 for Baltimore City or before 1898 for the counties. See the Religious Records Project for church burial records held at the Archives.

The Division of Vital Records is where you'd need to go to get birth records after 1978, death records after 1987 and marriage records from 1973 to present. Note that they are only available to "authorized persons" (such as the persons named on the record, surviving relatives, beneficiaries, etc.). Copies can be ordered online through VitalCheck.
