These Land Patents were originally filed with the Hernando County Clerk's Office in Brooksville, Florida. Pasco County was created from Hernando County on June 2, 1887 by an act of the Florida Legislature. All entries lying South of the the existing and current Hernando-Pasco County line prior to that date were transferred to the Pasco County Clerk in Dade City, and was named Pasco Land Patent Book One.
These early land purchases were acquired from the United States Government at the nearest Government Land Office, which was located in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. This index was transcribed by George O. Warren and Mary E. Wilson in June 1995 from Microfilm at the Pasco County Courthouse. Every effort was made to insure the accuracy of the transcription. The information in this document includes the name of the purchaser, total acreage purchased, the date of purchase, the page number, and in many cases includes where the land purchaser was from and these people are considered to be founding fathers of Pasco County. The original documents are held by the United States Land Office in Washington D. C. with microfilm copies at the Pasco County Clerk's Office, Pasco County Library, and the Pioneer Museum in Dade City.
George O. Warren, since deceased, was the original County Coordinator for the Pasco County FLGenWeb site and is responsible for much of the information this website contains. I, Laverne Hammock Tornow, am the second coordinator for this website and am a native of Hernando County with familial ties to Henando, Pasco, Citrus, and several other other Counties.
