Clarence R. Black, 89
OCKLAWAHA -- Clarence R. Black, 89, a retired salesman for a paper
company, died Jan. 24, 1992, at home.
A native of Weirsdale, Mr.
Black was a Marion County resident for most of his life. He was a member of
the Presbyterian Church of Silver Springs Shores; member of Marion-Dunn
Lodge No. 19, F&AM; member local Scottish Rites; and Morocco Shrine Temple,
Jacksonville.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Whitehurst Black,
Ocklawaha; son, Reginald Black, Ocala; four grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.

Dr. H. G. Martin, 78
OCALA -- Dr. H. Glen Martin, 78, professor
at the State University of New York, died Jan. 23, 1992, in Ocala.
A
native of LaGrange, Mo., Dr. Martin came here in 1975 from New York. He was
owner and broker at Gle-Mar Real Estate. He was a member of First Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alease M. Martin, Ocala; son,
Roger Glen Martin, Atlanta; daughters, Marilyn Blewett, Austin, Texas, Joan
Martin, Dallas, Texas, and Linda Juzbasich, Devon, Pa.; brother, Rex B.
Martin, League City, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Peggy Basham, 39
ROANOKE, Va. -- Peggy O'Neill Basham, 39, died Thursday, Jan. 23,
1992, at her home in Roanoke, Va., after battling cancer for two years.
Ms. Basham was an Ocala native and a 1973 graduate of Randolph-Macon
Woman's College.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas W. Basham,
of Roanoke; two daughters, Laura and Catherine Basham of Roanoke; parents,
William and Betty O'Neill of Williston; a sister, Deborah Croom, Germany;
and an aunt.
A private memorial service will be held in Virginia.

OCALA -- Edward Van Riel, 84, a retired
hospital maintenance worker, died Jan. 24, 1992, at Ocala Health Care
Center.
A native of Holland, Mr. Van Riel came here 14 years ago
from Homestead.
Survivors include his son, Hans Van Riel; daughter,
Sylvia Slade, Texas; and one granddaughter.

63, a circuit court judge for 18 years, died Jan. 25, 1992, at home.
A native of Ocala, he was a lifetime resident.
Mr. Sturgis was a
member of Grace Episcopal Church; the Florida Bar Association; the Ocala
Elks Lodge No. 286; Marion-Dunn Masonic Lodge; and numerous organizations
and clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Sturgis, Ocala; sons,
Preston Herring Sturgis, Atlanta, and Wallace Edwin Sturgis III, Asheville,
N.C.; daughter, Sherill Sturgis, Atlanta; sisters, Lillian Sturgis Updike,
Brevard, N.C., Anne Goldthwaite Sturgis, Atlanta, and Mary Sturgis
McClellan, Sarasota; and two grandchildren.
Alberta Pearl Badeau, 65
OCALA -- Alberta Pearl Badeau, 65, an operator for United Telephone
of Florida and a Human Resource Services employee, died Jan. 26, 1992, at
Marion Community Hospital.
A native of Lewiston, Maine, she came
here in 1982 from Miami.
Mrs. Badeau was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn P. Roper, Waynesboro, Pa.

SILVER SPRINGS -- Arthur B. Baker, 90, a tool and die
maker, died Jan. 11, 1992, at Munroe Regional Medical Center.
A
native of Trezevant, Tenn., he came here 28 years ago from Fort Lauderdale.
Mr. Baker was a member of Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church; the
Marion Dunn Masonic Lodge No. 19 F&AM of Ocala; Scottish Rite Valley of
Miami; Mahia Shrine Temple of Miami; directed the Shrine band for two years;
member of the Order of the Amaranth No. 29 of Ocala; past president of the
Southeastern Shrine Band; and four-time past patron of the Order of the
Amaranth, Holywood.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorthy Rust, Stone
Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Lucille Beqlau, Detroit; two grandchildren; and
five great grandchildren.

A native of Richmond Hill, N.Y., she came here in 1977

heavy equipment mechanic and owner of a salvage yard and used car lot, died
Jan. 25, 1992, at home.
A native of Lyons, Ga., he came here in 1950
from Wildwood.
Mr. Moseley was a member of Central Baptist Church; a
U.S. Army World War II veteran; a member of the American Legion; Veterans of
Foreign Wars; and the Ocala Elks Club.

Lucile Mary Moseley, Ocala; daughter, Inez Boudreaux, Pensacola;
stepdaughters, Glenda Fulford, Ocala, and Mary Frances Pollard, Longwood;

Clearwater.

A native of Munice, Ind., he came here in 1989 from
Hialeah.
Mr. Staton was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints.

River Geriatric Center.
A native of Riverhead, N.Y., Mr. Brooks came
here one year ago from there. He was a 62-year member of Eagle Hose Co. 4 in
Riverhead. Mr. Brooks was Catholic.

retired assistant postmaster, died Jan. 26, 1992, at home.
A native
of Orange Lake, Mr. Burry came here five years ago from Fort Pierce. He was
a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ocala and the Pioneer
Sunday School class. He was an active member of the First United Methodist
Church of Fort Pierce for over 50 years. Mr. Burry retired from the U.S.
Postal Service in Fort Pierce after 37 years of service. He was a member of
the Marion County Historical Society; St. Lucie County Historical Society;
and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Burry was an avid collector of
watches, clocks and telephones.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel
Newlan Burry, Ocala; sons, Roger V. Burry, Woodland Hills, Calif., and David
N. Burry, Haines City; sister, Gladys Ridaught, Wilmington, N.C.; and five
grandchildren.

accident.

War.

was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Essex Junction, Vt. Mrs.

Walter Lester Cook, 82, a registered pharmacist for 56 years, died Jan. 27,
1992.
A native of Eldon, Iowa, Mr. Cook was owner and operator of
McIntosh Pharmacy from 1944 to 1961. He came to Inverness in 1961 and
founded Cook's Pharmacy. Mr. Cook was past president of the North Marion
Chamber of Commerce. He was member and steward of the First United Methodist
Church of Inverness; past president of the Inverness Golf and Country Club
and the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce; member of Elks Lodge; and a
23-year member of the Bank of Inverness Board of Directors.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Vivian Hinson Cook, Inverness; son,
Walter Terry Cook, Sneadville, Tenn.; daughters, Lora Cynthia Cook,
Inverness, and Julia Cook Thompson, Hendersonville, N.C.; sisters, Irene
Zipperer, Leesburg, Ellen Culpepper, St. Augustine Beach, Pearl Pike,

Paul's Lutheran Church and the German-American Club, both of Beverly Hills.

Eastern Star.

A native of Holland, Mich., Mr. Groenewoud came here
18 years ago from Pompano Beach. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and
served in World War II. Mr. Groenewoud was a graduate of Hope College in
Holland. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

include his sons, Donn M. Groenewoud, Ocala, and David Groenewoud, Decatur,
Ill.; daughters, Lori Allen, Crystal River, and Mary Hale, San Antonio,

Lois M. Groenewoud, 73, retired from the Marion County School System and
Maas Brothers in Ocala, died Jan. 28, 1992, in Tampa.
A native of
Holland, Mich., Mrs. Groenewoud came here 18 years ago from Pompano Beach.
She was a graduate of Hope College, Holland. Mrs. Groenewoud was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Donn M.
Groenewoud, Ocala, and David Groenewoud, Decatur, Ill.; daughters, Lori
Allen, Crystal River, and Mary Hale, San Antonio, Texas; sister, Virginia
Borqman, Holland; and five grandchildren.

Philip S. Mancini Sr., 90
BEVERLY HILLS -- Philip S. Mancini Sr., 90, a retired electrical engineer
with the state of Rhode Island, died Jan. 29, 1992, in Crystal River.
He was born in Italy and came here nine years ago from Sunrise. Mr.
Mancini was a 1926 graduate of MIT; was director of Rhode Island Public
Works for seven years; director of Rhode Island Traffic Engineering for 24
years; and member Knights of Columbus, 3rd Order. He was a member of Our
Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine
Hickey Mancini, Beverly Hills; sons, Philip S. Mancini Jr., Providence,
R.I., Stephen M. Mancini, East Greenwich, R.I., and Michael J. Mancini,
Kendel; daughter, Elaine M. Readey, West Kingston, R.I.; sisters, Benadeta
Bena, Providence, and Lucy Venditti, Hollywood, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild.

-- Robert Henry "Whitey" Saylors Sr., 60, retired heavy equipment operator,
died Jan. 27, 1992, at home.
A native of Douglasville, Ga., Mr.
Saylors came here in 1968 from St. Petersburg. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Ocala Moose Lodge
No. 1012. Mr. Saylors was Baptist.
Survivors include his daughter,
Jannell Anderson, Pascagoula, Miss.; stepdaughters, Beverly Pickrell,
Summerfield, and Christine Weil, Belleview; son, Robert Saylors Jr.,

72, a retired inspector with Allison Aircraft, General Motors, died Jan. 31,
1992, at Marion Community Hospital.
A native of Huntington, Ind.,
Mr. Andry was a winter resident for 15 years. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy and served in World War II. He was Christian.

OCALA -- Alberta Brown, 73, a retired Forest
High School math teacher, died Jan. 30, 1992, the result of a brain
hemorrhage.
A native of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Brown came here 34 years
ago from there. She was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church; the League
of Women Voters; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; Utopians; and the NAACP. She
received numerous service and membership awards from her church, her
sorority and her college alumni association. She was an avid traveler who
had visited more than 18 countries on four continents.

include her sons, Benjamin F. Brown, Broomfield, Colo., Stephen E. Brown,
Laurel, Md., and Emery N. Brown, Watertown, Mass.; sisters, Anita M. Brown,

HOLDER -- Ralph
Charles Parmer, 71, a retired mechanic with A.T. Carrol Contracting, died
Jan. 30, 1992, at home.
A native of Laurel Hill, Mr. Parmer came
here in 1929 from there. He was a member of Church of God, Citrus Springs.
Mr. Parmer was a World War II prisoner of war in Germany. He was captured
during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the Disabled
American Veterans, Hernando.
Survivors include his wife, Izella
Parmer, Holder; sons, Russell F. Hudson, Tecumseh, Okla., and Ralph D.
Parmer, Davisville, W.Va.; daughters, Kathy Wells and Lorry Billups, both of

Pikowicz was a member of the Democratic Club; St. Mary's Rosary Society; and
Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 3372, all of Perth Amboy. She was Catholic.
Survivors include her son, Andre Pikowicz, Folsom, Calif.; daughter,
Joan Sinka, Inverness; brother, Joseph Wroblewski, Cape Canaveral; sister,
Florence Wontrowski, Dickson City, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

president of Crotty Brothers Food Service, died Feb. 1, 1992, at Marion
Community Hospital.
A native of Lawrence, Mass., he came here 20
years ago from Hollywood.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Avery,
Ocala; three sons, William S. Avery, New York City, Butch and Bobby Dove,
both of Ocala; three daughters, Justine Thomas, Sebring, Patricia Wobb and
Frances Ramaqe, both of Ocala; 16 grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.

A native of Oil Springs, Ky., he and his wife lived in
Ocala in the 1970s and 1980s.
Mr. Colvin was a member of the Church
of Christ in Meally, Ky., and co-founder of an automotive dealership located
in Kentucky.

LaFollete, Tenn.; two sons, Emery Gayle Colvin, Ocala, and Jerald Lee

WILLISTON -- Victor Earl Mikell Sr., 69, retired insurance agent
with Gulf Life Insurance, died Jan. 31, 1992, at North Florida Regional

A native of Trenton, he came here 42
years ago from Archer.
Mr. Mikell was a member of the Morriston
Church of Christ, Morriston; the Williston Kiwanis Club; a U.S. Navy
submarine World War II veteran; in 1979 he was the Levy County Veterans
Service officer and the administrator for the emergency medical services in
Levy County for 10 years. In 1990 he became a personal representative for
the Knauff Funeral Homes in Chiefland and Williston.

include his wife, Doris Mikell, Williston; two sons, Mike Mikell, Crestview,
and Chuck Mikell, Bronson; a daughter, Cathy Mikell, Gainesville; two
