TIPTON

posted by Patsy Forrest on Tuesday, October 20, 1998

Jason Vander TIPTON - lived in Marion County around 1860 to1863. He was a Primative Baptist Minister and may have been serving a church in Ocala. His Civil War discharge papers said he was residing in Ocala in 1862 when he enlisted in the Confederate army. I am trying to find out if he served in a church there, is listed on a tax digest list, etc. Thank you for your help.

CARR, HOCKNEY

posted by Susie Boyce on Friday, October 30, 1998

My cousin obtained the death certificate of James B. HOCKNEY who died March 20, 1917 of "severe and extensive burns from waist down caught from forest fire." Is there a source in Marion County, such as the historical society or library, which might have access to a newspaper account of this fire or an obituary for James Hockney? James Hockney was probably living with his daughter and son-in-law Watson and Lydia CARR. We do not know when they moved to Florida (although it was after 1910) or why. They had lived previously in Wisconsin after immigrating from England about 1890.

MCCLELLAN

posted by Gayle McClellan-Powell on Thursday, November 5, 1998

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me find the parents of Robert Artman MCCLELLAN b.June 25, 1892 in Early Bird, FL according to his death certificate. I sent away to the county for his birth records but they could not find him. I believe his father Otis or Othie MCCLELLAN was working on one of the railroads nearby. Supposedly Otis McClellan was born in Ohio in 1866, but I can't locate him there. Does anyone know which railroads may have been in the area of Early Bird in the early 1890's? I have not been able to find this family in any census records anywhere. Any help will be appreciated.

Emanuel Henry MARTIN settled in Marion county in 1830's. I have extensive list of the Martin family from Emanuel to 1950's. I like to hear from Martin's related to Emanuel. His sons and grandsons, etc are to extensive to post. My grandfather was Bert Eason Martin, his father was David A. Martin and his father was Henry Emanuel Martin, who was one of the sons of Emanuel. One of Emanuel's sons went to Texas were there is an extensive Martin family. Many Martins including Henry moved to Sumter county while others stayed in Marion county. Emanuel first moved to Ft. McCoy in 1828 with his wife Mary GEIGER, where their baby was killed by an arrow in an Seminole attack and they moved back to Bryon county in Georgia. They came back between 1831 and 1833.
