DAVIDSON, HARRISON, JUHANN, PEARSON, POOSER

posted by Anna Gayle (Davidson) McClure on Tuesday, March 3, 1998

I am looking for information about Major Robert Emmett DAVIDSON. In the book "Ocali Country" by Ott and Chazal on page 156, he is mentioned as a settler of Marion County, Florida. The book states that on "Febrarary 14, 1898, the Battleship Maine was sunk in Havana Harbor, and the United States by April was at war with Spain". It goes on to state that Company A Second Florida Infantry, known more familiarly as the Ocala Rifles, was commanded by Captain R. E. Davidson. In an Ocala Banner newspaper of April 1898, an article tells about Robert Emmett Davidson coverting the Arlington Hotel in to a mess hall and recruiting officers for the Ocala Rifles. Robert Emmet is listed as a major on a list of soldiers who were killed or wounded in action or taken prionser.in the "Florida Historical Register of the U.S. Army, 1789 -1903". I would love to know if he is buried in the old Ocala Cemetery. He was the son of Susan Caroline (Carrie) and David DAVIDSON of Long Cane, Georgia. Evidently, Robert's sister (Mattie DAVIDSON JUHANN) and brother (David Elmo DAVIDSON), followed him from Georgia to Ocala. Mattie was a widow. David Elmo's first wife was the sister of Abner POOSER of Ocala, Florida. I do not know her name. His second wife was Louise HARRISON - the daughter of Kate PEARSON and Captain Robert Daniel HARRISON. Louise and David DAVIDSON married in 1901 and moved to Leesburg, Florida in 1902. Any information about the above names would be appreciated. Thank you.

After 2 weeks in the church, he took sick with pnuemonia and died. I know that he and my great grandmother Alice LAVEIGNE PACE moved to Apopka before 1880. I have no idea what happened to her or to two of his sons--Thomas PACE and Fletcher PACE. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Barbara Pace--Gainesville
