On October 30, 1949, 700 people assembled in the auditorium to see
Mary Frank Ward, a senior, crowned queen of the Halloween Carnival.
Queen Mary's royal gown was of light green net over green taffeta
with stones sprinkled on the full skirt. Her corsage was of yellow
carnations clasped with sliver ribbons entwined through the flowers to
match her accessories.
Her ladies-in-waiting, Virginia Jackson,
Sue Chitty, and Alice Scott, clapped as Ronald Savelle, her escort,
placed the gold crown on her brown curls and called her QUEEN MARY!
Queen of the Halloween Carnival.
