Mrs. W. A. Bishop Dead:
Mrs. W. A. Bishop who
has been sick for a long time, died the 30th and the remains were laid
to rest in the Otter Creek cemetery the 31st, at 11:30 o'clock, the
funeral services being conducted by Rev J E West.
Another soul
has crossed the stream,
Another one now lies;
A treasure hidden to
the tomb,
Her soul beyond the skies.
Another heart has ceased
to throb,
Another soul has gone.
To join angelic choirs above
Around the celestial throne.
She went where duty called.
To
bravely shield the right;
As one of old she fell,
Having fought a
goodly fight.
She bravely rallied forth,
Harking to duty's
voice;
Her fate she met - But now
Her soul may well rejoice.
So true, so noble was her call,
She dared her life to give,
But on through ages yet to come
In memory she will live.
Cherished and loved by all she knew,
Yes, loved by every one;
But
now from us her shining face
Has forever gone.
No more life
warfare she shall know,
Life's battle is o'er.
Boldly she laid her
armor down
Beyond death's stream may soar.
Weep not for her
dear children and husband,
Because her smiling face is gone.
But
ever strive to meet her
In heaven around that celestial throne.

A Sad Accident
Monday night little Miss Arna, the
five-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Boswell, met a sad and
peculiar death at the home of her parents, a mile north of town.
Mr. Boswell's shot gun fell from the rack on the wall and was
discharged by the hammer striking a table or some object, the entire
load entering the abdomen and arm of the little girl, who was playing on
the bed at the time, producing almost instant death.
A physician
was summoned but arrived too late to render any help to the unfortunate
and innocent little victim. The interment was made at Mt. Olive cemetery
Tuesday afternoon.

In Memoriam
Mrs.
Rebecca Boswell
Relatives and friends were greatly shocked Friday
morning, June 11, when the news came that "Grandma Bosewell," as she was
known, had answered the last summons. It came unexpectedly while
apparently she was in good health.
Mr. Rebecca Bush Bosewell was
born January 29th 1830. She was married to Mr. Wilson Boswell in what is
now Bullock county, Alabama, in 1848. There were twelve children of this
union, seven sons and five daughters. She is survived by five sons, W.
S., J. C., G. T., R. A., and J. L. Bosewell and three daughters, Mrs.
Penny Bowland, Mrs. L. P. Maund, and Mrs. Ready Johnson, besides a large
family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
She was truly a pioneer, having settled with her husband in Geneva,
then Dale County, Alabama, in the early fifties when this county was an
unsettled wilderness. She was left with a family of little children at
the beginning of the civil War when her husband joined the army, and
experienced all the hardships and privations of the women of that
period. About twenty-five years ago when moved to Bonifay, Florida with
her husband who proceeded her to the grave eighteen years ago. Since
that time she has made her home with her children, spending a few weeks
at a time with each. She passed away at the home of her son Mr. R. A.
Boswell, who lives northwest of town.
The remains were taken back
to the old home near Hurricane Church in Geneva County, Alabama, and
laid to rest with loved ones who sleep in the old church cemetery.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. T. Strout,
assisted by Rev. J. S. Register.
Eighty-six years is a long time
to remain in "the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee." Those who
knew her best can truly say that the blessing of a long life was the
reward earned by faithfulness on duty, long service to her own, and
Christian charity towards all - a life spent in the Masters; work. She
was ready to go and life ceased a quickly as the breaking of a thread.
There was no pang of separation! The passing thus of life into death was
reserved as His last blessing for a good and faithful servant.
Altho she is gone from our sight, her example, and the memory of her
cheerfulness and courage under all circumstances, will be long
remembered by those who mourn their loss. In life she was fondly loved
by family and friends but when the first pangs of grief are over the
memory of their association with her will be a sweet sorrow which they
would not forget, sand with it dome the comfort of His assurance that
"she is not dead, but sleepeth."

The Death of A Noble Woman:
A death that has
saddened the hearts of all her acquaintances, and they are legion, was
the untimely decease of Mrs. H. J. Brett, of Clarkson. Wednesday night at
9 o'clock. Mrs. Brett had been seriously ill for several weeks, and
medical aid of the highest order. Coupled with kind and affectionate
nursing, was used in the most attentive manner, and at times great hopes
were fondly cherished for her permanent records; but alas, God in His
infinite wisdom saw fit to remove this pure and noble woman from this
world of grief and sorrow. Left to mourn her sad demise is a
heart-broken husband, three dear little babes, a father, two sisters and
a host of warm friends. Whose sympathy for the bereaved as deep and
sincere.
The remains were transported to this city yesterday for
burial, and a large concourse of grief-stricken friends gathered at the
cemetery to pay the last sad respects to all that was mortal of this
good woman. The funeral solemnities were conducted by Rev R C Williams,
pastor of the Methodist church, this city. Mrs. A Sessoms sang, "Abide

Brownell: Westville and the surrounding country was greatly shocked on
last Thursday by the unexpected report of the death of Bro. A. D.
Brownell of this place.
Though Bro. Brownell was known for and
wide as a man of high moral character and of deep religious convictions,
it was only to those who have been in close touch with him, that have
been revealed the trueness of his great worth.
As a citizen he
was considered just, as a Mason, a brother, as a man honorable, as a
father peerless, and as a companion unrivaled. His motto, as explained
by himself, was "Never fear to do right".
The deceased was a
member of the Methodist Episcopal Church here, and has been very
diligent in Sunday School work-serving the church either as
Superintendent of School or as teacher of the advanced class. As the
school has been a grand success, it need only be mentioned that a great
many of our bright boys and girls owe their success, in a large measure,
to the inspiration received from this man of God. Thus, it is resolved
by the Sunday School:
1. That we express to the world our sincere
appreciation of the work that rendered us.
2. That as he was so
diligent in business and fervent in spirit in serving the Lord, his
place will be hard to fill.
3. That we will follow the example
set by him in our endeavor to do right.
4. That a copy of these
resolutions be send the Alabama Christian Advocate, to the Holmes County
Advertiser and to the family of the deceased.
