The Benjamin Tadlock family came to Florida between 1870 and 1880, according
to US Census records. Benjamin, his wife Jane, and two children were listed in
the 1870 Census in Geneva County, Ala, while the 1880 Census of Holmes County
lists Benjamin, Jane, and three children.
From this family have come
preachers, teachers, barbers, farmers, and other "salt-of-the-earth" people who
have contributed much to the growth and development of Holmes County.
Members of this hard-working, peace loving family, not yet born when the
photograph of the family taken in the first decade of this century was made,
were old enough to be retired when this book was first published in 1983. Others
were in their prime, as indicated by a news item in the Holmes County Advertiser
headlined "Army Promotes Charles Tadlock". Charles F Tadlock was a
great-grandson of Benjamin and Jane.
There were only a few descendants of
Benjamin and Jane about whom I happened at the time of the first printing of
this book. I am sure there were many others in the area.
