Around the turn of the century, one of the major sources of employment in Holmes County was in the logging industry. These men cut thousands of acres of timber using a hand drawn cross-cut saw and axes. Pictured is a rather typical sawing crew about the year 1910 that includes the following: front row, Henry Watson, Dave Minchew, Jim Minchew, Will | Padgett, Raymond Mauldin, Charles Miles, Charley Hill, Mark Purvis, John Warren, Henry Cook; back row, Charles Covington, Marion Watson, William Hudson, Wess Arrant, Columbus Hobbs, Jim Bowers, Tom Bowers, Riley Wilks, Charley White, Henry Hobbs, John Minger and Math Hobbs. |
