I'm not sure
when this portrait was made, but he died in 1928, at only 48 years old, of
pneumonia. His wife, Myrtie Armella Dancy Johnson, died six weeks later of
complications from childbirth. (This child was born 4 weeks after his father's
death). The couple left 5 orphaned children who were raised by their maternal
grandfather, James E. Dancy, until his death in 1934, and then by their Aunt
Pearl Dancy Herring. Thomas Washington Johnson was son of General Lafayette
Johnson and Martha K. Stafford Johnson of Hurricane Creek, Holmes County,
Florida. He was Sheriff of Holmes County from 1918 until he died in 1928. His
son, Park Earl Johnson, was my husband's father.
