Dianne is a very special to me, as is Denise her sister. Davis, her father was in the Air Force, when she was born and Inez had been staying with us until Dianne's birth. The night she was born, our brother Jack, took Inez to the hospital. We lived between Echo and Midland City, Ala. That seemed a long way to Dothan where Dianne was born. John and I have spent much time with Dianne, Turhon and their family and she remains the special person, to me, that she was those years ago, as is Turhon.

Denise, as well as her sister Dianne is also special to me. I lived with them when Denise was a baby, and she loved me, I think, almost as much as she did her Mother. I certainly loved her as my own. Perhaps I did spoil her a bit.
As a baby, she had "colic", and to quiet her, we walked holding her in our arms Once as I walked with her, I noticed that Inez was walking behind me, taking a step every time I did. We had a nice laugh about that, after all the crying of both mother and child, we needed it.
We spent many hours swinging in a swing, made from an automobile tire, hanging in an oak tree. To get her to go to sleep, I took her, along with a little white dog, for a ride around the "Circle", in Dothan, Ala. It always worked, she stood beside me, with one arm around me, and fell asleep immediately. That was the days before seat belts.

Some of my fondest memories of Larry is when he came to spend the night with me, then wanted to go home when it was time to go to bed. We would always get to the car and he would decide he did not want to go home after all. We spent half the night walking to and from the car. I told him and Olivia, while I was single, that I had 3 children, Susie, Johnnie and Willie, they believed me, even though they never saw the children.

When Marsha was born, we were overjoyed, as most parents are. She has continued to make us very proud of her. She graduated from Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas with a BA degree in Finance, then attended the University of Houston, while working part time with a Savings and Loan Company and then full time, and
received her MBA degree from there. She moved to Norfolk, Va. when she married Anthony Gerik, who was stationed there in the Navy and was a helicopter pilot. Marsha and Tony met while they were both attending Texas A&M. She began work at a bank in Norfolk, Virginia, which was bought by Nations Bank, (now named Bank of America)
which has it's headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After transferring to Charlotte, she became a Vice President in that bank, has recently transferred to the Special Assets Department and works as a Loan Solver Specialist.
We had our lives changed in a wonderful way in 1995, when God blessed us all with the birth of Morgan Brittany Gerik, our first granddaughter, and a daughter of Marsha and Tony. Morgan made Carol a proud Aunt. This year in 1999, we were blessed again with the birth of Olivia Anne Voorhees Gerik, our second granddaughter.

Morgan has been such a wonderful blessing to us, Marsha and Tony have allowed her to visit us without them, for short periods since she was 20 months old. We look forward to many more visits and years with her.
In July, 2000, we were with Morgan, her sister Olivia, and their parents in Fontana, North Carolina, which is in the mountains. Morgan persuaded Tony, her father to go Salamander hunting with her. They returned with their catch, when I looked at it, I recognized it as being what we called Mud Puppies in Alabama. We caught them in small streams, we called branches, for my brothers to use for catfish bait. They fished at night, placed hooks with mud puppies into the creek water, then checked them for cat fish during the night.
