School Romance Culminates In A Wedding Sunday
Miss Alice Mary Head, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Head, 604 N. Ninth
street, and Arno W. Sommer, son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Sommer, 1415 N.
Thirteenth street, were quietly united in marriage Sunday afternoon at 2
o'clock at the residence of Rev. Francis Murphy, of St. Clement's church, who
performed the ceremony. Miss Johanna Bowser and Roy Head, the bride's
brother, attended the couple.
The marriage was kept as a secret from friends of the couple who planned it
as a surprise, and immediately after the service Mr. and Mrs. Sommer left on
a wedding trip to Madison where they will visit for a week. They made the
trip by motor.
The romance, which culminated in the happy marriage yesterday, had its
inception in the high school years, both bride and groom going through the
four years of high school together and being graduated with the class of
1920. Mr. Sommer, following his graduation entered the University of
Wisconsin, taking the medical course and was graduated from there last June.
On September 22 he will leave for Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he will enter
the medical school of the University of Minnesota to complete his course,
expecting to attend that institution for three years. He will then practice
medicine. Mrs. Sommer will remain here for a while with her parents, after
which she will go to Minneapolis, where the couple will take up residence.
The bride also went to Madison, shortly after being graduated from the high
school here, where she did secretarial work for the State Board of Health.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Sommer are popular among the younger set in the city and
have a host of friends who extend felicitations.
