"Mr. and Mrs. Garret J. Vanderlaan will have open house at their home, 171 Fourth street from 2 to 5 pm, Sunday, June 28,
in observance of their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
At the same time, friends calling to extend felicitations will have the opportunity of viewing the new home which the
couple have been occupying since last March 28, and have newly furnished.
Although 74 years of age, Vanderlaan directed construction of the home and did a considerable amount of the work,
including roffing the residence.
The couple were married June 24, 1903, at Cedar Grove, Wis., and established their home at Sheboygan, Wis. They later
moved to Baldwin, Wis., where he was engaged in general farming and dairying for about 37 years.
Nine years ago they came to California and located in Woodland. The day after their arrival, Vanderlaan gained employment
as a gardener at the university farm, which positions he filled for four years and two months. He is currently employed
three days per week at Douglas Gas Service.
Mrs. Vanderlaan, 68, and in splendid health, in addition to maintaining her home, is still employed in various Woodland
homes five days per week, and enjoys her work.
Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Vanderlaan. They are Drewis and Charles Vanderlaan, both of Woodland and Mrs.
Alba Clothier of Woodville, Wis. They also have ten grandchildren and one great grandson."
