The original Eggebeen's were from France and during the War of the Roses they moved to the Netherlands. The Eggebeen family is still well known as a Zeeland family in the Netherlands. Anton Eggebeen born 1-8-1861 in Wolphaartsdijk, Netherlands and died 3-30-1918 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He is buried at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cascade, WI. He married Maria "Mary" Josina Faasse. Per the 1910 census they were married for 27 years in the Netherlands and thus would have been married in the year 1883. Mary was born 8-1-1862 in the Netherlands and died 11-15-1932 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She is buried at the Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She is the mother of 18 children born but only 13 were living per the 1910 census.

Antonette "Nettie" Eggebeen was born 1-17-1902 in the Netherlands. She had polio and America would not allow cripples into the country. They drugged her and carried her into United States. She married Cornealius Katte. He was born 1-17-1902 and died 2-1-1967.

Janneke "Janette" Eggebeen was born 9-23-1903 in the Netherlands and died 10-13-1972. She married John Ver Hage. He was born 2-23-1901.

Alice Eggebeen born 7-11-1906 in Wisconsin and died 5-3-1993. She married Gerhard "Harry" Katte. He was a brother to Cornealius (Nettie's husband). He was born 10-10-1906 and died 3-6-1994.

Anton and his son, Markus Eggebeen came over on 4-11-1905 to the United States of America through Ellis Island. Anton and Markus came on the Potsdam ship to New York City.

Potsdam Ship

The Potsdam ship was a 12,606 gross ton ship and built in 1899 by Blohn & Voss, Hamburg for the Holland-America Line. Her details were 550 feet in length and had a beam of 62 feet. She had one funnel, two masts, twin screw, and a speed of 15 knots. There were accommodations for 2,292 passengers (282-1st class, 210-2nd class, and 1,800-3rd class. It was launched on 12-15-1899; she sailed from Rotterdam on her maiden voyage to New on 5-17-1900. In 1904 her funnel was lengthened by 23 feet to improve draught and made this ship easily recognizable. She commenced her last voyage from Rotterdam to New York on 4-24-1915. Then she went to the Swedish American Line and was renamed "Stockholm". She left Gothenburg on her first voyage for this company on 12-11-1915 and called at Kirk wall for contraband inspection on her way to New York. In 1922 she was reconditioned in Gothenburg and her funnel was reduced in height. Commenced her last voyage from Gothenburg to Halifax and New York on 9-29-1928. In 1929 she was converted to a Norwegian whale factory ship and renamed "Solglimt". In 1941 she was captured in the Antarctic by the German Armed Merchant Raider "Pinguin" and taken to Bordeaux. Later the same year she was put under the German Flag and renamed the "Sonderburg". On 6-29-1944 she was scuttled by the Germans at Cherbourg, raised in 1947and scrapped.

Anton then sent for the rest of the family to travel to America on the ship Ryndam or Rijndam. They also came over through Ellis Island in New York arriving on 6-6-1905 from Rotterdam, South Holland, Netherlands. They were from the small town of Wolphaartskijk, Netherlands. It was pasted on from generations that one could see Brussels, Belgium on a clear day from the hilltop on the edge of town. Wolphaartskijk was near the city of Ter Neuzne in the Netherlands and thus they used this name on entering America.

Ryndam or Rijndam Ship

Harlen & Wolff Limited in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1901 built the ship. It was weighted 12,527 gross tons. It was 575 feet long and 62 wide. It had a stream triple expansion engine and twin screw with a service speed of 15 knots. The Ryndam carried 2,282 passengers (286 first Class, 196 second class and 1,800 third class). It was built for Holland - America Line with a Dutch flag in 1901. Laid up in 1917 due to World War I and chartered by United States Navy with an American Flag in 1918. Then used as a troopship from Rotterdam - New York Service from 1919 - 1928. It was scrapped in Holland in 1929.

Anton Eggebeen and his family had a business where the family bound books, sold pictures, post cards and tobacco. The older sons went to the ships to sell their wares as they lived near the port where the ships docked.

They show up in the 1910 Sheboygan Census in the city of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

They traveled directly to Sheboygan, Wisconsin after the arrived. Here they lived for 7 years and then lived in Oostburg for a short while. They then farmed in the Town of Lyndon from 1917 on and then later moved back to Sheboygan when the sons were married and the girls could work doing various jobs in town. All the girls had tight wavy hair.

Joos Eggebeen (brother to Anton) married Maria Schipper in the Netherlands. Then he married Adrianna Polderdyk on 5-24-1894 per her obituary. But according to the Eggebeen bible her name was Adrianna Timmermann. Adrianna was born 9-7-1868 and died 6-15-1966 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
