CENSUS RECORDS
Tax substitutesfor lost censuses
(T) - lists landowners, county of residence, and other information
Farm and Ranch (F) - also known as agricultural census, lists name
of the owner, size of the farm or ranch, value of the property, and
other information
Manufactures (M) - lists manufacturing
firms which produced articles having an annual value of $500 or
more; includes name of firm, owner, products, machinery used, and
number of employees
Mortality (D) - list persons who died in
the year preceding the 1st of June of each census date; includes
name, age, sex, occupation, place of birth, and other information
Regular (R) - 1840 and before lists only head of household
plus a breakdown of the number of persons according to age and sex;
1850 lists the names of all persons and includes age, sex, real
estate, marital, state of birth, and other information; 1880 and
after also includes the birthplaces of the mother and father of each
person
Slaveholder (S) - lists name of slaveholder and
number of slaves
