George died of illness or wounds received during combat operations in northwest Georgia most likely around the towns of Adairsville and Cassville. The Dr. Samuel H. Stout collection of Confederate

Hospital records housed in Texas records that G. W. Slusher (misspelled Slasher when admitted) was admitted into the Cannon Confederate Hospital in LaGrange Georgia on May 23rd 1964 and

died May 26th 1864. He is buried in the Stonewall Confederate Cemetery, grave site 29, in LaGrange, Georgia.

 

G.W.'s wife, Leah (Wood) Slusher, and  three daughters are buried in Slusher-Emerson Cemetery on Sugar Tree Road, Willis, Va. The three daughters have headstones:
