In life, Paul A. Duncan was a visionary, entrepreneur, and a good businessman. His upbringing in Pilot, VA. instilled a work ethic to go challenge the world and not be afraid to take risks. He felt that if you stay humble, work hard and always work on your craft, that success would always find you. Paul believed that hard work created opportunities. Mr. Duncan served the automotive industry by being a Ford Dealer in Blacksburg, VA. for 53 years, a Mazda Dealer For 42 years and served on the Virginia Automobile Dealer Association (VADA) Executive Board. Mr. Duncan served his community by being a long time Executive Board Member of The National Bank of Blacksburg & National Bankshares. In 2015, New River Community College honored Mr. Duncan with its first ever honorary bachelor’s degree in honor of his accolades in business and service to the New River Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne Hale Duncan; brother, R.B. Duncan and wife Marilyn; his sons Gary A. Duncan and wife Rhonda, Gerald E. Duncan and wife Sharon, David P. Duncan and wife, Edith-Anne; daughter Martha D. Miller and husband Eugene; grandchildren Nicole Miller Yarborough and husband Steven, Tiffany N. ElFreeda McNiel Duncan, 82, of Christiansburg, VA and of Florida, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 25, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Samuel and Eugenia Whitenack McNiel; as well as siblings, Glenna Manning, Luetta Gregory, Marian Lancaster, and Samuel McNiel. She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Paul A. Duncan; sons, Gary A. Duncan & wife Rhonda, Gerald E. Duncan & wife Sharon, David P. Duncan & wife Edith-Anne; daughter, Martha D. Miller & husband Eugene; grandchildren, Nicole Miller Yarbrough & husband Steven, Tiffany N. Miller, Jason Hopkins, Courtney Hopkins, Eddie Duncan, Jake Duncan, Georgia-Kathryn Duncan, and Paul Samuel Duncan; and sister, Opal Conner & husband Banks.

ElFreeda was born on August 6, 1930, and graduated from Check High School, and received her degree from National Business College. She was a faithful member of Blacksburg United Methodist Church, and enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, reading, cooking, hunting seashells (especially at Fort Myers, FL), bluegrass music and was an avid fan of Virginia Tech sports. One of her greatest joys was taking care of her family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Horne Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Blacksburg United Methodist Church, with Rev. Reggie Tuck and Rev. Fred Austin officiating. Opal Dean McNiel Conner, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the age of 81, shortly after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was born on March 27, 1934, in Floyd County. She is survived by her loving husband, Banks Harvey Conner with whom she recently celebrated her 58th year anniversary; their daughter, Deanna Conner Gould and husband, Tim Gould; their son, Jeff Conner and wife, Julie Conner; three grandsons, Harry Gould, Magnus Gould and Jago Gould; a brother-in-law, Paul Duncan, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Eugenia McNiel; and all her siblings, Glenna Manning, Marion Lancaster, Luetta Gregory, Elfreda Duncan, and Samuel McNiel.Opal was known for her kind, honest, reliable nature. She was there for many others during their time of need. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church and worked at CMT Sporting Goods for overthirty years.The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2015.
