Born April 7, 1905, in Carroll County, Va., he was the son of the late William Albert and Sarah Alice Lindsey Sutphin. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, D. Blanche Wade Sutphin, who died in 2001. Mr. Sutphin moved to the Libertytown area in 1985 from Roanoke, Va., where he was formerly a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He had been employed with Michael's Bakery in Roanoke for more than 30 years, retiring in 1970. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Surviving are two sons, Donald G. Sutphin, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Michael W. Sutphin and wife, Lu, of Libertytown; three grandchildren, Linda B. Dodson and husband, Bobby, Donna Sutphin McDonough and husband, Kerry, and Amanda L. Kilby and husband, Tony; six great-grandchildren, Kenny Dodson, Natalie Dodson, Ryan McDonough, Connor McDonough, Neil McDonough and Amelia Grace McDonough; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the last of 11 children. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 21, 2008, at Lotz Salem Chapel, 1330 E. Main St., Salem, Va., immediately followed by a graveside service at Sherwood Memorial Park.
