He was born on Friday, December 18, 1925 in Bedford County, a son of the late Buford Marshall Sumner and Estelle Gillaspie Sumner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mirta Overstreet Sumner and a son, Kenneth D. Sumner. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corporation. He was U. S. Navy Veteran having served in World War II. Surviving is his son, Grady E. Sumner, Jr. & wife, Karen of Goode; a daughter, Lisa S. Wilson & husband, Tim of Winder, GA; a step-daughter, Carolyn Overstreet of Bedford; two sisters, Peggy Branch, Reva EubankI both of Bedford, six grandchildren, Larkin, Taylor & Riley Wilson, Erin, Sara & Evan Sumner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with Rev. Dr. David H. Henderson officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Kent Sumner The death of Kent Sumner in Community Hospital the morning of January 31 came as a shock to his widespread circle of friends through this area whom he had served for 18 years of affiliation with the Wickenburg Ice co. He had been in failing health the past two years. Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. W. Howard Blazer of the First Presbyterian church, will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Wickenburg Funeral Home and burial will follow in the Wickenburg Cemetery. Mr. Sumner was born May 13, 1905 in Dameron, West Virginia, and came to Arizona and Wickenburg in 1949. He is survived by his wife, Agnes. L. Summers; two daughters, Mrs. Betty L. Underdown of Wickenburg and Hattie A. Cox of Cherry Valley, Calif.; two sons, William K. Sumner Jr., of Morristown, Pa., and John H. Sumner of San Bernardino, Calif.; one brother and two sisters in West Virginia and 13 grandchildren. 1994 Obit: The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, AZ December 28, 1994, p. 2 Agnes L. Sumner of Wickenburg died December 17 at Wickenburg Community Hospital. She was 87. Mrs. Sumner was born September 20, 1907 in Braddock, Pennsylvania. She had lived in Arizona for the past 45 years. Survivors include sons William K. Sumner of Montclair, Pennsylvania and John H. Sumner of Wickenburg; daughters Betty Underdown of Arivaca, and Hattie Cox of Cherry Valley, California; sisters Ina Flowers of Cooper City, Florida, Virginia English of Indiana, and Dorothy Scott of Lumber Port, West Virginia; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
