Pioneer Woman Dies Here Apr. 23
Mrs. Margaret Ann Brown died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nettie Ferguson, Thursday, April 23rd. Burial was made at riverside cemetery Sunday, April 26th. Services were conducted at the Community church; Rev. Hubert Webster preached the services.

Mrs. Margaret Ann Brown was born in Franklin County, Va., Feb 5th, 1845 and moved to Nebraska in 1887. She came to Wyoming in 1917. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Nettie Furgeson and sons, Willie and John Otey. One brother is also living.

The deceased was one of the early pioneers in Nebraska. Old age was the cause of death.

R.W. Otey Local Pioneer Dies At Billings

Robert Willis Otey, 78, resident of Thermopolis for 41 years, died at Billings Sunday after a long illness. He was taken to that city several weeks ago where he underwent an operation.

Mr. Otey was born July 17, 1866, at Roanoke, Va. In 1886 he went to Crawford, Nebr., and in 1890 moved to Deadwood, S.D., where he was married to Adelaide Carey. Soon after their marriage they moved to Crawford, Nebr., and in 1900 they went to Douglas, and lived there until they moved to Thermopolis in 1903. Mrs. Otey died in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1929. Later Mr. Otey was married to Ada H. Thompson in this city and this has been his home for 41 years.

Mr. Otey was at one time a member of the school board, and also served as a member of the Thermopolis town council. He was a past master of Malta lodge No. 17, A.F. & A.M. Always deeply religious, Mr. Otey was a member of the Methodist church, and was active in affairs of the church, serving for a long time as a member of the board.

He was a building contractor and worked at his trade until failing health forced him to retire. He built many of the earlier structures in this city.

Funeral rites were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Re. A.C. Rostron conducting the service. The choir sang two selections, “Abide With Me” and “I Know In Whom I Have Believed”, tow of Mr. Otey’s favorite hymns.

Services were held at Community church, where Mr. Otey had attended church for 41 years. Burial was at Riverside cemetery and members of Malta lodge conducted the rites at the grave.

Mr. Otey is survived by his wife; three daughters; Mrs. L.G. Hinkley of Billings; Mrs. Arlie Roberts of Greybull; Mrs. Harry Jevas of Lynwood, Calif.; a son, Robert W. Otey of San Francisco, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. A. H. Wood of Casper; a brother, John Otey of Douglas and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Ferguson of Butte, Mont., and seven grandchildren.

Here for the services were Mrs. Hinkley, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts and sons, Gene and Jackie; Mrs. Jevas and son, Robert; John Otey and Jack Otey of Douglas and Mrs. Wood.

Mrs. R.W. Otey Dies in California After Long Illness
Mrs. R.W. Otey, wife of R.W. of this city, died in Los Angeles, Calif., Saturday following an illness of seven years. The body will arrive today, for funeral being held at 3 o’clock at the Community church, The Rev. Willis Germany will officiate. Burial will be made in Riverside.
Last Friday the family here received word of her sudden turn of the worse and Mrs. L.G. Hinkley, her daughter departed immediately for her mother’s bedside. She arrive there the following morning after her death. Mr. Otey had just returned to Thermopolis a few weeks ago after spending the winter with his wife whose health was too pore for this high climate. Mrs. Hinkley will accompany the body here.
Mr. and Mrs. Otey had lived in Thermopolis for 25 years and they have made a wide circle of friends who extend their deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones.
Those who survive the deceased besides Mr. Otey are a daughter and son in Los Angeles, who will also arrive Friday, Mrs. Ruth Jarvis and Robert Otey; Mrs. Arlie Roberts, daughter, who lives in Greybull; and Mrs. Hinkley of Thermopolis; and a sister, Mrs. Martha Friedman.

John Quincy Otey, 91, a long-time resident of Douglas, died Sunday at the Cannon Rest Home. He came to Douglas about 50 years ago and was a stonemason by trade, helping construct a number of Douglas buildings. He is survived by two sons, Col. Basil Otey of the U.S. Army and Jack Otey of Guernsey. (Information was obtained from his obituary, mortuary and cemetery records.)

Little Girl Dies Here.
Ollie Otey, the six year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Otey of near Hardy, Okla., died this morning at 8 o'clock in a local hospital. The child was brought here several days ago for medical treatment. Funeral services for the little girl will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock in the church at Maple City, with interment in the Maple City cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Otey are personal friends of Mr. and Mrs. Frank B. Rogers, and they are stopping with Mr. and Mrs. Rogers at present.

Velma “Ted” Potter Carter, 103, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, March 24, 2018 at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born July 10, 1914 in Hardy, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Charles and Cora (Golden) Otey. She attended school in Hardy and graduated from Newkirk High School.

She married Harry Potter on August 18, 1938 in Medford Oklahoma. They lived on a farm west of Maple City, Kansas. They had one daughter, Judy Brenner. Velma married Glenn Carter on June 28, 1976. They lived in Sedan, Kansas. Mr. Carter preceded her in death on October 18, 1987.

She is survived by:
Her daughter: Judy Brenner and husband, Bobbie of Dexter; Her grandchildren: Brenda Smith and husband, Brian of Winfield; Lynda Brenner of Pittsburg; Rob Brenner of Dexter; Her great-grandchild: Matthew Smith and wife, Jennifer of Wellington; Her sister: Merle Jean Hefley of Plano, Texas; Her great-great grandson: Cooper Smith; and Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Velma was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Davis, Ethel Boone and Hazel Boone, and a brother, Bill Otey.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday March 29, 2018, at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment will follow at Maple City Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in Velma's name for the Maple City Church and Alderbrook Village. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Ruth Olive Otey Davis, 95, passed from this life on January 9, 2013, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Ruth was born November 30, 1917, in Hardy, Oklahoma to Charley and Cora Golden Otey.

Ruth was blessed with two Brothers and five Sisters. She attended Hardy Schools and the girls often rode horses to school.

Ruth married the love of her life Frank B. Davis, February 13, 1937, in Arkansas City, Kansas. They were married 61 years, living in Burbank, California and Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Ruth enjoyed working at J.C. Penney's 43 years, teaching ceramic classes, and running the family grocery store and assisting in the Motorcycle Business.

Ruth was an artist; she enjoyed china painting, ceramics, and oil painting and was an excellent seamstress and gardener. In younger years she enjoyed motorcycle riding. Ruth lived an active life until debilitating illness prevented her from independence in 2011 and she moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma to the Sterling House.

Ruth made people happy with her attitude of laughter and joy. She always tried to make things better for those around her. Ruth will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Merle "Dee" Heinz, Rose Hill, Kansas. Daughter-in-law, Sandra Davis, Macomb, Oklahoma; grandchildren, William and Nancy Heinz, Plano, Texas; Daniel and Kathy Heinz, Udall, Kansas; Lisa and Kevin Harmon, Augusta, Kansas; F. Ted Davis, Jr., Macomb, Oklahoma; Great grandchildren, Hailie Harmon, Augusta, Kansas; Nikki and Brady Coile, Wichita, Kansas; Great great grandchildren Colton and Addison Coile, Sisters; Velma Carter, Winfield, Kansas Merle Hefley, Plano, Texas; Many nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband Frank, Son Franklin Ted Davis, and Granddaughter Patricia Lynn Davis. Brothers, Monroe Thomas Otey, Floyd Charles Otey, Sisters, Ethel Pearl Boone, Hazel Edith Boone, Olive Marie Otey.

Services have been entrusted to Trout Funeral Home and Crematory of Ponca City, Oklahoma. The celebration of her life will be Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 at the IOOF Cemetery. Officiated by Rev. Scott Spencer of the Albright United Methodist Church.
