CATES, Leota Light, 88, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2001. She is survived by her only son, James W. "Jim" Cates, II, also of Roanoke. A dedicated and loving mother and wife, she graduated from Jefferson High School and National Business College, and served as Secretary-Treasurer of Cates Building Specialties. She was a pianist, and an accomplished ballet and adagio dancer, an avocation which she shared with Wallace, her husband of more than 60 years. She was born in Bluefield, W.Va. September 3, 1912, the daughter of Bertram and Floye Light. She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. "Wallace" Cates, her sister, Ruth Light Wise of Roanoke and her brother, Leighton Light.
