Mrs. Laura Ann Williamson, age 92, died Saturday afternoon in a Radford hospital.

She was the widow of William Harvey Williamson, Sr.

She was born Laura Ann Burnett June 19, 1883, in Floyd County.

She had been a resident of Radford since 1905. She attended Virginia College and Martha Washington College and was a member of the Grove Avenue United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Reese, Radford; Mrs. Alex Buchanan, Madison, Wise; two sons, William Harvey Williamson, Jr. and Burnett Williamson, both of Radford; a brother E. Sam Burnett, Floyd; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Dalton, Hillsville; also 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

A daughter, Lucille, preceded her in death on November 11, 1964.

Funeral services will be Monday, 2 p.m. from the Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack P. Weikel officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Building Fund at the Grove United Methodist Church.

Obit of Dora Ada Burnett: Galax Gazette 1976 Mrs. H. Prince Burnett, formerly of Galax, was honored at a party in celebration of her 93rd birthday, on Monday, Feb. 2, 1976, in Memphis, Tenn., where she is with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Peterson. Mrs. Burnett, widow of the late H. Prince Burnett, attorney-at-Iaw, of Galax, is the former Dora Branscome, born Feb. 2, 1883, at Dugspur, Carroll County, daughter of Robert Lee Branscome and Elizabeth Alice (Hylton) Branscome. After her mother's death in June 1888, she and her sister, Anna Lee, lived at Dugspur with their maternal grandparents, James M. Hylton, Confederate veteran, and Mahala (Burnett) Hylton, for two years, until after their father re-married, and they moved with him to Roanoke. For many years, Capt. R. L. Branscome was a passenger conductor for the Norfolk & Western Railway and was well known to early Galax residents before his death in 1927. On Jan. 21, 1908, Dora Branscome was married to Henry Prince Burnett, of Floyd County, who had graduated the year before from the Law School of Washington and Lee University, Lexington, and had already settled in Appalachia. In October 1913, the Burnetts moved to Galax, where Mr. Burnett opened a law office and also owned the Galax Post-Herald for a few years before selling it to Mike R. Crabill and his mother, the late Mrs. Lydia Crabill. Mrs. Burnett assisted her husband in the publication of the Post-Herald, and at that time, Mrs. Burnett says, they had the first linotype machine in this area installed. For a number of years, during and following World War I, Mrs. Burnett served as volunteer executive secretary of the Red Cross for Grayson and Carroll Counties. Some of her duties were locating the men who were prisoners of war, obtaining help for families of service men if they were in need, obtaining compensation for discharged and disabled servicemen, and providing other social services. Tbe Burnetts moved to Independence in November 1920, following Mr. Burnett's first election as Grayson a County Commonwealth's Attorney, and they lived there until late in 1935 when they moved back to Galax. In the 1920's Mr. Burnett purchased the Grayson Gazette (later the Grayson-Carroll Gazette, and now the Galax Gazette) from W. S. Barbery. The Gazette was moved to Galax, where it was published by Mr. Burnett for some time.  H. Prince Burnett served as Grayson County Commonwealth's Attorney for 28 years, in the House of Delegates of the Virginia General Assembly, 1938-39, and was a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of T 1956 from the 14th Senatorial District. He was Republican County Chairman of Grayson County for a number of years and was a long-time member of the Republican State Central Committee. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Burnett was instrumental in organizing the Galax Home Guard. For 10 years he served Galax as its legal counsel, first as Town Attorney, for six years, and then as City Attorney (after Galax became a city) for four years, until his death April 28, 1957. Mr. and Mrs. Burnett were longtime active members of the First United Methodist Church, Galax, he having been a member of the Board of Stewards, and Mrs. Burnett holding various- offices in the WSCS. Mrs. Burnett, as a Galax citizen, was a member of the' Women's Literary Society and the Galax Music Club and was a charter member of the Galax Woman's Club. She and her husband were charter members of the Galax Country Club. In the years during which the family lived in Independence, 1920-35, Mrs. Burnett was president, and one of the organizers, of the PTA, three times president of the WSCS of the Methodist Church and was a news correspondent for The Roanoke Times. Mrs. Burnett is now a member of the Lake Windermere Garden Club, Memphis, and Floyd Court House Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Floyd, Va. She enjoys knitting and doing needlepoint, still takes an active interest in flower growing, and leads a busy, useful life. Mrs. Burnett has three daughters, Mrs. Robert E. (Dorothy) Peterson, Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Marshall K (Margaret) Arey, Norfolk, and Mrs. Russell Frank (Elizabeth) Frazier, McLean. She also has seven granddaughters, and eight greatgrandchildren. Katherine Alene Cox Burnett, 89, of Dugspur, Va., passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Waddell Nursing Home. Katherine was born on September 27, 1919, in Coal Wood, W.Va., to the late Hamilton and Doan Harmon Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Charles Rush Burnett; a brother, Avis H. Cox; and son-in-law, Harry Clinton Quesenberry. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Katherine Quesenberry, of Dugspur. Katherine was always a business person, had a milk route at the age of 10. She married at 16 and moved to Carroll County, becoming the fourth generation on the family farm. She and Rush ran a dairy for 33 years then beef. For many years she taught Bible School and the Junior Sunday School Class at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a life long member. Katherine loved to read, play the piano, and work with the young people. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Vaughan Guynn McGrady Chapel with the Rev. Elmon Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Cox Cemetery.

Mr. Burnett was born in Carroll County to the late Irvin Austin Burnett, Sr. and Susannah Dickerson Burnett. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Garrett Burnett, Rush Burnett, Irvin "Buck" Burnett, and Clayton Burnett; and sisters Lorraine B. Martin, Viola B. Cummins and Iva Mae Burnett. He is survived by his brother & sister-in-law Walter & Reda Burnett of Dugspur; and sisters Mary B. Marshall of Galax and Martha West of Collinsville, VA. 
A memorial service with inurnment following will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at the Cox Cemetery.
